Encounter Sunday Night: SNACK RETURNUpon receiving feedback from our Student Leaders over the camping trip, we have decided to ask that snacks be provided by parents (instead of the pizza we did last year.) Emmie Farish volunteered to help organize a schedule for each family. She has created a calendar for each month, and this month’s calendar is attached to the update e-mail you received. We do not wish to make this burdensome, and for this reason you will only be asked to provide one week per semester. If you have any questions please contact Emmie at: [email protected]

Encounter Sunday Night Youth GroupOur weekly Sunday night youth group Encounter meetings are every Sunday from 5:30-7:30 and open to all 6th-12th grade students. Games begin promptly at 5:30 so be sure to be on time, and feel free to arrive early. Invite your friends! Snacks will be served after the games. This time serves as an opportunity to play games, engage in worship, listen to teaching from our adult youth leaders, and participate in small groups. This Fall we will be teaching on “Who is God” which will focus on the attributes of God.

Worship OpportunitiesWorship takes many forms and is not simply restricted to music. This year we believe the Lord has directed us to provide the students with opportunities to express their worship in the areas that God has gifted them in. In response to this word from the Lord we have created both a drama team and a photography/art team. Please encourage your youth, if they have a heart for either of these two ministries to get involved! If you have any questions about how to get involved with the drama team please contact Caroline Pickens at: [email protected] If you have any questions about how to get involved with the photography/art team please contact Chris Boyd at: [email protected]

Sunday School: Genesis Starting at 9:30 am on October 5th we will begin a new teaching series on the book of Genesis. We will be walking your through a more in-depth study of the book, highlighting in particular the uniformity of the OT with the NT, and the first mention of some of the significant foundational doctrines of the Christian faith. Please encourage your youth to come!

Missions BBQ & Bake Sale FundraiserVolunteers are desperately needed for our BBQ fundraiser on October 12. Ward Sheffield has been kind enough to help us, but he definitely needs our help pulling it off. If you are interested in going to Washington D.C. for missions this summer please be sure to sign up to help. The signup sheet will be passed out at Encounter on Sunday, October 5th. Parents, if you are able and willing to, we would love if you could contribute cookies, cakes, pies, or any other sweet treat for the bake sale. If this is something that interests you please contact Sarah Poole at : [email protected]

Ignite: Wednesday Nights

Ignite begins October 22 and runs through November 19th. We begin with a catered dinner from 5:15-6:15 (suggested donation: $5 for adults, $3 for kids, $15 maximum per family) and teaching goes from 6:30-7:30. Our series this term is called “Stories from the Saints of Giles.” All youth (6 th-12th) will hear the testimonies of some of the great Saints of our church. These adults will share and facilitate conversation. Come listen to these wise saints, be blessed, and be challenged in your own walk of faith!

Night of Light

We will not be having Ignite on October 29th, instead we will be celebrating our annual “Night of Light” (Fall Festival)! Youth volunteers are needed to help Miss Sharon with the games and fun. There will also be square dancing and all are welcome to join in the fun! Please speak to Sarah Poole about volunteering or e-mail her at: [email protected]
