The Mine Action Response

1. Community based risk education for returnees, IDPs and other people at risk through

1. Sensitization of local authorities and returnees/IDPs aid community

2. Risk Education ToT for the focal points of return and IDP supporting organizations like UNHCR, IOM etc

3. Sensitization and empowerment of impacted communities’ councils/elders

Results Achieved

• Liaison/sensitization meetings with local authority – 211

• Landmine/ERW risk education based on train of trainers (ToT) model delivered to 681 individuals (186 women and 495 men):

• 21 Districts in Somalia were covered from July 2017- Jan-2018.

• Total IDP, returnee and host community beneficiaries is 87, 866 in over 413 locations including IDP camps and way stations for returnees.

• Basic RE capacity has been established within Humanitarian organisations supporting IDPs and returnees in Somalia.

• The contact details for mines and ERW injury surveillance system collected

• Rapid assessment of victim assistance services in the districts covered was also done
