PUNKT.real.estateProject “Empty Spaces of Zasavje”

Issue.

Thereʼs lots of abandoned industrial buildings/spots (factories, warehouses, quarries) in Zasavje, that no one is taking care of them. They are the remains of golden industrial era that ended in the region in the middle of 90ʻs. Today, in our post-industrial times, this buildings are falling apart in front of our eyes, and just like ghosts theyʼre frightening everyday walkabouts of regionʼs residents and visitors.

We want to change this depressive impact the buildings are having now, with a creative project that will bring a new life into this buildings, will revitalize them and will give to the public ideas of how this buildings can be used instead of being empty.

As far as we donʼt have money to buy this real estate for real, we want to show the possible use of this abandoned buildings in a creative project, which will engage local creatives and creatives from all over the world. So forth, once death places will get a new life, even though only temporary through a creative project.

Aim.We want to encourage people to use the imagination and change the current desperate state of the buildings, with delivering creative content that would bring a social impact with showing the case, for how once factories and warehouses can turn into a creative spaces, into an inspiration and a place of imagination. We will document the project in a film (web documentary) called “Imagine this new world”.

Process.1) mapping of empty spaces2) photographing them3) put them on a web = web site building4) invite creative people from all over the world to apply their ideas (via web) of a new life

5) select 10 creatives (number depends on how many empty places we have) and invite them to do their projects in the region (around this places, on the spot = together with local creatives) (selection might be done by 10 local creatives who will be hosts)

6) shoot the film (or better: produce web documentary) of this creative acts, titled “Imagine this new world”

7) distribution of the film

Local creatives are hosts to foreign creatives, hosting them with a homestay and work with them on the project. They contact each other in advance, to discuss projects, details, possibilities, etc.

The project needs 10 local creatives that will work together with 10 foreign creatives, so all together 20 creatives, working on 10 projects focused to abandoned/empty industrial spaces in Zasavje. All 10 projects will be captured on a film, which will be later distributed to web, digital cinemas, festivals, etc. (***It would be great to produce a web-documentary, interactive doc as like this, for instance: http://interactive.nfb.ca/#/pinepoint or more of them = http://thecreatorsproject.com/blog/the-6-most-innovative-interactive-web-documentaries - but of course this is another “project in a project”, which would need extra management and finances ... but still, I would go for it)

Execution of the project = april, may 2013
