The exhibition Speak Your Mind: The Art, Stories and Cultures of Arab and Muslim Women documents through paintings and photography the immigrant and refugee women's experience, explores issues of integration and identity, and preserves and celebrates traditions, art and stories that build dialogue, respect and multicultural understanding about our global community. The exhibition presents 30 paintings and photography by eight

Muslim and Arab women artists living in the DC Metro area. On Saturday, June 11, exhibiting artists will be giving a talk as part of the one-day arts and cultural festival about their artwork, identity issues and personal journeys as Muslim and/or Arab-American women. More

• Visit a traditional Moroccan room, and the amazing work of two Moroccan sisters, Amal Derder, a jewelry designer and Kamar Derder a textile artist and decorator.

• Experience contemporary painting in the Muslim world, and spiritual expression of Islamic architecture with an American-born Painter and Architect of Kashmiri-Pakistani origin, Nadia Janjua.

• Meet Muslim novelist, Jameela Alter and discuss her book, "On Clipped Wings." Jameela will also showcase her passion for hand-making simple, inspirational books and cards.

"Unveiled" by Rohina

Four Muslim women in a post-9/11 world serve tea and uncover what lies beneath the veil in this compelling one-woman show.

Rohina Malik is a Chicago-based playwright, actress and solo performance artist. She was born and raised in London (UK) of South Asian heritage. Rohina is one of the four Chicago writers in The Goodman Theatre's Playwright's Unit. Her one-woman play UNVEILED, has its world premiere at the 16th Street Theater, where Rohina performed to sold-out houses and received critical acclaim. UNVEILED received a second production at Victory Gardens Theater, a third production at Next Theater/Evanston. In Sept 2011 UNVEILED will have its fourth production at Brava Theater, San Fransisco.

Partners include Takoma Park Arts and Humanities Commission (TPAHC), Pyramid Atlantic and Takoma Park Recreation Department.
