Acer and the environment

The environment plays a significant role in defining Acer’s long-term strategies and product lines.

Acer has always kept the environment close to the centre of its mission and has always made every effort to observe international environmental protection protocols.

These efforts are based on the firm belief that any industrial process that reduces the consumption of natural energy and raw materials not only leads to savings for the business, but also contributes towards protecting the world’s resources.

The Acer Eco Committee

The Acer Eco Committee, established in 2004, is made up of senior executive managers from regional offices and has the responsibility of coordinating, implementing and communicating corporate environmental policies in addition to increasing awareness of this subject amongst the public, customers, staff, distribution channel and shareholders.

The committee is in constant contact with international environmental organizations like Greenpeace and Silicon Valley Toxic Coalition (SVTC) as well as international organizations at the Taiwanese Industrial Technology Industry and American Environmental Protection Agencies.

A global eco-friendly business

Acer is fully aware of the impact its business can have on the environment, and makes every effort to design energy-saving solutions using low pollutant technologies and eco-compatible materials in addition to implementing recycling and disposal programs for waste material

In keeping with its environmentally-friendly philosophy, Acer received ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification in 1997 from the

Bureau Veritas Quality International and in 2002, following the company reorganization, updated its environmental management system and renewed its certification.

For Acer, the ISO system is a starting point for environmental business management and quality control, as it allows us to deliver zero-defect, competitive products and services to customers across the globe. It encourages innovative thinking and promotes the most cutting-edge technologies with special attention to quality control to ensure safe products that win the trust of our customers.

Global Environment Safety Team

Under the guidance of the Global Environment Safety Team, Acer keeps a vigilant watch over EU directives, providing guidelines, updating the lists of raw materials used in production, assessing the use of alternative resources and checking vendor conformity with international and local directives.

Acer maintains strict control over the use of pollutant and contaminating agents during production, aimed at reducing or, where possible, eliminating hazardous substances such as PVC, BFR and phthalates, and replacing them with alternative resources that do not negatively impact product quality, safety and reliability and do not present health hazards or have a negative impact on the environment.

Acer also believes that its responsibility extends beyond the design, manufacture and sale of products, to include the recycling of discarded products.

Finally, in addition to using easy-to-remove and recyclable parts, each Acer product package is marked with the barred garbage bin, making recyclable goods easier to identify.
