Interior Architecture is about designing and creating practical yet engaging spaces. This course is where you will learn how to balance function and appeal in the design of space. The Diploma in Interior Architecture is designed to prepare you for employment and / or further studies in various fields such as interior architecture, property development, installation work and exhibition design.

If you are inspired by space, enjoy practicality and aesthetics, like to work with your hands, then you may be well suited for this course. ProgrammeoverviewThere is probably no career more important than teaching and caring for children. The children of today are tomorrow’s leaders. One common misconception is that the only career choice in this field is to be a teacher. In reality, your career options can include being a childcare centre manager, an educational administrator, a school counsellor, an assistant principal or even the owner of a kindergarten.

ALFA College’s Certificate in ECE incorporates the theoretical components with practical elements and a perfect pathway into Diploma or employment right after this Certificate programme.

student achievementsStudent competitions provide a good platform for students to test their design skills and measure their progress against their counterparts from competing schools. For ALFA College, nationwide competitions provide greater exposure of the school’s design programmes and the caliber of student’s work being developed in the institution.

Following the footsteps of fellow ALFA recipients Timothy Khoon Terk Jie in 2011, and Alia Aida binti Masiri in 2010 Melissa Chong Sook Lynn was selected at the Dulux Emerging Talent Competition in 2012 to represent Malaysia in London and Amsterdam.

Classmate Ili Syahirah binti Zainal Abidin represented Malaysia at the ARCASIA Student Jamboree 2012 in Bali, Indonesia.

Two promising students from the Graphic Design programme, Aw Yen Rong and Eng Zui Chee, received top honors from the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur for their award winning entries in the Celebrating Women’s Achievements 2013 Photo Competition.

Interior Architecture students - Chin Li Huan, Chin Ying Heng and Sia Siew Khim - are selected for the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Furniture Entrepreneur Association (KLSFEA) Student Adoption programme.

Graphic Design student Chong Shi Qi had been selected as the Nando’s Art Initiative Grand Prize winner in early 2014.

In July 2014, the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Furniture Entrepreneur Association (KLSFEA) sponsored ALFA College’s Interior Architecture students – Chin Li Huan, Chin Ying Heng and Sia Siew Khim – to a study trip to China as part of its Student Incubation & Adoption program.

Edmund Tham graduated in Graphic Design from ALFA College. He was employed at an advertising agency for three years before deciding to pursue his lifelong passion; photography.

“It was hard in the beginning. While working as a graphic designer, I did some freelance photography and through personal referrals. I managed to get new clients. Initially, I did all kinds of shoots to make enough money just to get my business going”.

Later on, Edmund started his own gallery named eGallery (e=EdmundTham). He specializes in wedding photography to a level equal with international standards.

Damon Kok is an Architecture graduate from ALFA College. He travelled to Australia following graduation from ALFA College to complete his degree at University of Tasmania. Since then, he has gained incredibly valuable experience in the industry.

Damon recalls his time at ALFA College, “the lecturers and fellow students were a good influence. ALFA students were diligent and helpful, thus contributing to a positive learning environment”. Damon believes that there will always be a demand for architecture graduates in the job market.

With a strong fascination for drawing since childhood, Wan Hoong says he knew graphic design was his passion. From a family of humble means, Wan Hoong is grateful that his parents and two sisters believed in him and supported his choice.

He choose ALFA College for its extensive graphic design programme. “At ALFA, the lecturers had us work on team projects which are important because in the real world, advertisement projects and commercials are produced by teams,” remarked Wan Hoong.

Jeff Lee graduated with a diploma in Interior Architecture from ALFA College. He is clear about why he chose ALFA College over its larger competitors. “I think that the small, close-knit environment is a big advantage for students at ALFA College. Following graduation, Victor worked overseas in Kazakhstan for three years leading teams on design projects in Central Asia & Eastern Europe. After returning to Malaysia, he founded his own interior design firm, Avtor Designers.

When asked of the challenges he faced at work, Victor replied, “Learning the trade. It’s tough when you’re fresh out of college. That’s where having mentors to guide you really makes a difference”. He advises Interior Architecture students to constantly practice resourcefulness. “Be responsible, diligent and motivated. But most importantly, maintain curiosity and imagination”.

Her love for design manifested early as a young child and from the encouragement of her parents. Upon graduating from ALFA College’s Graphic Design programme, she furthered her studies at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia.

Shermynn currently works in the Web Design department at AirAsia. She reveals, “I started my career at AirAsia as a Web Designer. After three years, I became the Team Leader whereby I am responsible for managing a team of eight web designers”.
