Internship opportunity empowering people of all ages and incomes to Grow And eat healthy, organic, local food. Wasatch Community Gardens 824 S 400 W Ste 127, SLC 801.359.2658 www.wasatchgardens.org For 25 years, Wasatch Community Gardens provides Salt Lake Valley residents the opportunity and knowledge to grow their own food in urban gardens, while aiming to help improve access to healthy, organic, local food. What we do: Offer support to more than 33 community gardens, allowing more than 800 individuals, groups, or families – including 130 refugee families – to grow their own organic produce; Provide opportunities for more than 1,600 primarily low-income youth to learn about growing and eating healthy food in our youth gardens; Educate more than 400 people in 50 workshops that speak to a variety of topics ranging from starting a community garden to canning & preserving produce. Manage more than 1,300 volunteers who contribute over 12,000 hours of service. Donate more than 5,000 pounds of produce annually to our local food pantries. Volunteer Assistant Intern: Unpaid – estimated 100 - 150 hours total, 5 - 10 hours per week Begins January 11, 2016 Requirements: Wasatch Community Gardens relies on volunteers to help maintain our community gardens, youth gardens, and school garden program. In 2014, we managed 1,300 volunteers who donated more than 12,000 hours of their time! Volunteer Assistant Intern responsibilities include: 1. Assist in developing and leading volunteer crews and garden mobs. 2. Assist in the development and leading of Plant Sale Volunteer Opportunity. 3. Represent WCG at Farmers Markets & tabling events. Qualifications: 18 years of age. Available on evenings and weekends. Have reliable transportation (private or public). Willing to do physical work in the gardens including weeding, digging, planting, harvesting, building garden structures. Detailed oriented, self-motivated, and willing to learn. Outgoing, friendly, and courteous. Must be available to work at the Spring Plant Sale May 6 th & 7 th .
