Empower 3Obsoleted support of detectors

The following instrumentation is reaching its end of life, is on limited support status and will nolonger be supported in Empower 3:

- 410 RI Detector- 486 TUV Detector- 996 PDA Detector- 474 Fluorescence Detector

Support for the A5890S and 7673S under serial control (Using LAN Serial Control)But not serial busLAC/E control, will remain in Empower 3.

Equinox Serial 8-Port Card

Equinox Serial Card is only supported on Windows XP 32-bit – Not in Windows 7.

Current serial instrument support using the Equinox 8-port card is:- Agilent 5890 GC (5890S)- Agilent 7673 GC autosampler (7673S)- Agilent 6890 GC (all models, including 6890N)- Agilent 6850 GC (serial number <=US00003200)- Agilent 7694 Headspace Sampler- Waters busSAT/IN module- Waters 474 fluorescence detector- Agilent A1100 LC modules (not A1200 modules)

A new LAN based serial device is replacing the Equinox Serial Card

What is OIP Technology?

Open Interface Portal (OIP) technology is a

software architecture that allows for a

standardized specification of the interaction

between the Data System and an instrument.

This allows for the development of an instrument

―driver‖ that can be added to Empower Software

without changing the core application.

OIP technology is separate from the physical

connectivity (serial, ethernet, USB, IEEE-488)

OIP technology takes advantage of other software

specifications: COM, ActiveX, XML

Third Party Instrument Control in Empower 3

Waters policy is to notify their software partners when a new informatics software product is under development. The Empower 3 team has notified all of our partners about Empower 3 and has offered beta software for use in testing

/development of ICS software, for Empower 3.

To date not all vendors have requested Empower 3 beta or released software. We have recently reminded our partners that the release of Empower 3 software and we would like to offer our mutual support of their products. We will contact

our partners again.

Please refer users who are requesting third party instrument control to the appropriate vendors to request support of these instruments in Empower 3.

Consistent instrument interface assist in training new software users as new techniques such as Gas Chromatography (GC) or Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) are introduce to the laboratory.

Once instrument parameters are entered into the Empower software they can be completely managed by the software to ensure that these same parameters are used for all future analysis. — If changes are required, all instrument parameters are

completely documented in Empower's embedded relational database with complete audit trail including what changes were made, who made the changes, when the changes were made and why.
