In spite o the devastation o last years

    ood, Thailands employment market

is set to grow by 20% across almost all

    sectors and occupations in 2012.

    Occupationsindemandinclude

    sales proessionals, engineers

    and IT proessionals accounting

    and fnance proessionals, HR,

    and marketing proessionals.

    Thetopsectorswithplanstohireinclude

Trading, Industrial, IT, Services and Energy.

As a result o the ood, more than

45,000 people lost their jobs, 700,000

    people are temporarily unemployed, and

another 164,552 jobs are at risk as 284

ood-hit frms have still not reopened.

    Thehardesthitindustrieswere

    manuacturers o Automobiles,

Electronics and Food. The eects o

the ooding on these industries is

expected to last well into 2013.

    Thetourismsectorhasalsoexperienced

a temporary slump, but is expectedto recover in the coming months.

    Ultimately,reconstructionactivitywill

    support 2012 economic growth but

much depends on how quickly the

    reconstruction actually begins.

    The shortage of skilled labor

has long been an obstacle to

    Thailands competitiveness.

    The domestic workorce is generally

good quality and highly productive, but

    educational levels remain comparatively low:

    Secondaryschoolcompletionratehas

grown signifcantly in the past 15 years,

but these gains have been outstripped

by increased demand or skilled labour.

    Only19%ofThaiuniversitygraduateshave

    a science and technology background

and 64.6% o the manuacturing orce

    has only an elementary education,

with just 6.2% possessing a degree.

Thailand has also aced a brain drain

in recent years, with its skilled students

and workers migrating in search o

    better opportunities and pay.
