From the Director's DeskA story I wanted to share on Teamwork – an important tool in our day to day working.

I love this story on teamwork I heard the other day. I think you will agree it is powerful. Feel free to share with your teams.

A team of about 35 employees had come together for a team building event. They were a young, bright and enthusiastic team.

However, one big problem this team had was they wouldn’t share information or solutions with each other. The leader felt they were too focused on self and not enough on team.

So she started off with a fun team activity that would allow her to teach the importance of each team member working together and sharing more.

She brought the team into the cafeteria. All of the tables and chairs had been stacked and put away. Placed around the room were fun decorations and hundreds of different coloured balloons.

Everyone was excited, but not sure what it was all about. In the center of the room was a big box of balloons that had not been blown up yet.

The team leader asked each person to pick a balloon, blow it up and write their name on it. But they were instructed to be careful because the balloon could pop!

A few balloons did indeed pop and those members of the team were given another chance, but were told that if the balloon popped again they were out of the game.

About 30 team members were able to get their name on a balloon without it popping. Those 30 were asked to leave their balloons and exit the room. They were told they had qualified for the second round.

Five minutes later the leader brought the team back into the room and announced that their next challenge was to find the balloon they had left behind with their name on it among the hundreds of other balloons scattered in the large cafeteria. She warned them however to be very careful and not to pop any of the balloons. If they did, they would be disqualified.

While being very careful, but also trying to go as quickly as they could, each team member looked for the balloon with their name. After 15 minutes not one single person was able to find their balloon. The team was told that the second round of the game was over and they were moving onto the third round.

In this next round the leader told the team members to find any balloon in the room with a name on it and give it to the person whose name was on it. Within a couple of minutes every member of the team had their balloon with their own name on it.

The team leader made the following point: “We P4

My Dear Family Members,

We have ended the second month of Q2 and now on to the last month of the quarter. Not a very encouraging month though there has been some sort of balanced performance in a few verticals. But majority still remain to be stagnating and not moving up. The month was not highly exciting one and stagnancy seem to have taken over most of us. I hope this month of September will be better than the other months of the quarter and I hope we all are equipped enough to ensure that this most crucial quarter - Q2 end with a big score. Only month remaining in the quarter and this month we should look at a smooth sail through without much hindrance.

Month of August gone by though had many breaks with festivals which witnessed closures most of the days and loss of business. We should have been prepared and should have put in more efforts with a will to work extra harder to balance unavailable days and ensure we made up for the lost working days. Team Tiscon was a shade better in their performance as compared to last month and logged in 3200 mt of sales. Others did their part but there still was a scope for improvement. This September has the Puja break which will witness office closure from the last week of the month. Effectively there will be 20 days to work with and the total target to achieve. Asking rate per day increases to a all time high. We cannot relax even for a day and we have to ensure all activities and follow ups need to be completed and without any gaps and right away. There is no time to rest and relax. Every month there will be something or the other where there will be enough reasons for business to get postponed. Any revenue loss due to loss of working days will add to more expenses for the company leading to multiplication of problems already existing. As individuals it is important to think of each one but at the same time one should also collectively plan for the company's growth and sustained profitability.

We should renew our pledge and continue to work hard on the task at hand. We should rework our strategies and we should ensure success and overachieve expectations from our principals. It is infact a warzone and everyone needs to fight it like a soldier. And the time to do it is now .......Ghadi Milao (G). Your recipe to success lies in your own (Z)KITBAG. Let us all pledge to get back to the task at hand with renewed vigour and energy. All the very best for the month and I am sure each one of you will come up as winners with great achievements this month. God speed and God Bless !

The team leader made the following point: “We are much more efficient when we are willing to share with each other. And we are better problem solvers when we are working together, not individually.”

Often members of teams create obstacles that get in the way of teamwork by solely focusing on their own pursuits and goals. They hoard information, avoid collaboration and distance themselves. It is bad for the team and it is bad for that individual.

Every member of a team should ask themselves on a regular basis what they are doing for the team and can do for the team.

Again, please share this story with your team.

Attitude Versus Comfort Zone........ Since the great majority of us already know what attitude is, let's talk about comfort zone:

Comfort zone is the mental place surrounded by borders in our mind where we feel secure. Even though this comfort area and its boundaries are just a state of mind that has nothing to do with reality, it plays a huge roll in the progress of our development. Since the comfort zone is limited, there is not much benefit for you inside your comfort zone, but what you already are and have. Nothing new will happen until you open yourself and leave your comfort zone.

As long as you still are having the same beliefs, you cannot grow and you cannot expect new things in your life. When you change your beliefs you will change your thoughts, feelings and actions and then, and only then you can expand and grow in all aspects of your life.

Even though your background may be affecting your present situation, what really matters is not where you were born, your skin color, race, age, gender, religion, government, or even the poor environment in which you have been living for so many years, but what really matters and makes a big difference in your life is your attitude, to understand your comfort zone, how you limit yourself within it, who you are, why you behave the way you do it, and mainly where you are going.

Sadly many people don't go anywhere because they stay within their comfort zone. They accept defeat after defeat before even trying or knowing how capable or valuable they really are. These circumstances are not the cause of our actual situation but the conformism and the poverty of our thoughts and therefore the weakness of our broken spirit. Leave your past behind; constantly transcend your comfort zone! Your past within this comfort zone is nothing but a wasted load that you don't need to carry, at all.

Take constant action as many times as it is required and never, never quit. As Napoleon Hill said, "a quitter never wins and a winner never quits. Defeat is never a failure; no circumstance ever is failure until it is accepted by the individual as a failure". Whatever you are thinking, you are feeling, and therefore what you feel is the way you are acting, and this action is what will determine how far you will go and how your future will be. Cheer up your essence; don't let the background of your comfort zone, or any other external circumstance defeat your spirit.

Nothing is impossible for an optimist attitude; everything is possible when we start blindly trusting ourselves, when we have a burning desire to succeed and a blind determination to make our dreams come true; everything is possible when we don't take a no for an answer. Don't be afraid of change, life itself is

for better. Just focus and only live your present with passion, focus on the things you want and what make you happy. Just believe in yourself, be open minded, open to change, be simple, flexible and take action.

Business as we know it, has changed. Well, this is just an understatement – it has metamorphosed into an agile and a lean machine from the large and bulky beast it used to be. A testament to this is the fact that in the last fifteen years 52% of the Fortune 500 companies have disappeared. During the same time period we saw an almost meteoric rise of some of the global giants of today such as Google, Facebook, Airbnb and Uber. So, what has changed in principle? It is the customers who’ve moved up the value chain and started demanding what they want from companies – primarily because they are better informed now and have a wide range of options to choose from. “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ” - Alvin Toffler

As literate denizens, marketing too has to imbibe this change and transform its role of being a one-way communication engine to a conversation platform, where you hear from your customers at every stage and respond to them almost instantly. And for doing so, it must make use of all the tech enablers that exist today. The new-age marketing team will thus have to lie at the intersection of technology innovation and customer centricity. And the modern-day marketer has to don several hats to be successful - A technologist, psychologist, community builder, conversationalist, and most importantly an empathetic listener.
