What is Emotiv EPOC ? A revolutionary brain computer interface

HISTORY - Found in 2003 by 4 scientists and
executives: Neuroscientist Professor Allan Snyder, chip-designer Neil Weste, technology entrepreneurs Tan Le and Nam Do.●

Emotive EPOC is a high resolution ,multi channel EEG system having 14 EEG channel and 2 references .
EPOC uses three suites to determine signal inputs:- Emotions (Affectiv suite) – Excitement – Engagement – Frustration
• Facial expression (Expressiv suite)
– eyelid and eyebrow positions, – eye position in the horizontal plane, – smiling, – laughing, – clenching, – smirking
• Cognitiv suite : 13 kinds of movement
– 6 directions(left, right, up, down,forward, and "pull/zoom")
– 6 rotations([anti-]clockwise rotation,turn left and right, and swaybackward and forward)
– visualization ("disappear“).
WORKING - Emotiv Epoc is based on two working
principles which are- Electroencephalography and Brain-Computer Interfacing
Electroencephalography (EEG) is the recording of electrical activity along the scalp produced by firing of neurons within the brain.
A brain-computer interface (BCI), sometimes called a direct neural interface or a brain-machine interface, is a direct communication pathway between a human brain and an external device.
APPLICATIONS -
• Currently this system is being used in Virtual 3D navigation and in gaming applications .
