During the planning and organisation of this event, all due care will be taken to ensure the safest possible conditions exist for the riders and horses. However, it is the responsibility of each competitor to comply with safety standards set down in the competition rules. The organising committee for this event will endeavour to see these standards are complied with. In the event of damage injury or loss to persons or animals as a result of the conduct of the event, the organisers will not accept any responsibility. Riders ride at their own risk.

These classes are qualifiers for the 2017 State Interschool Championships. The format is the same that is to be ridden at States and Nationals.

Judged under EA 2013 SHOW HORSE RULES effective 1 July 2013. Riders must complete all three phases in the class on the same day.

Each class will have a timed draw and all riders will complete an individual workout.

The Championship (total points earned over all classes) will determine the overall ranking.

Ribbons will be awarded for led, rider and ridden classes and championship (combined scores across phases).

Rider and horse/pony combination may complete in one class only, riders must choose between show horse, show hunter or working hunter.

Show Horse will comprise of three separate phases

Phase 1 – In hand. Phase 2 – Rider class (judging the rider, not smartest on parade or turnout). Phase 3 – Ridden workout (judging the horse as a show horse).

Phase 1 – In hand. Phase 2 - Rider class (judging the rider, not smartest on parade or turnout). Phase 3 - Ridden workout (judging the horse as a show hunter).

Working Hunter will comprise of three separate phases

Phase 1 – In hand.

Phase 2 - Rider class (judging the rider, not smartest on parade or turnout). Phase 3 – Jumping and workout (judging the horse as a working hunter).

Scoring

The total points earned across the three phases will determine the Championship Ranking.

The Show Horse classes run under current EA Show Horse rules The Show Horse competition is a judged exhibition of horses and ponies. A

show horse competition consists of a series of different performances, called classes, wherein a group of horses with similar training or characteristics compete against one another for awards.

Show Horse and Show Hunter Special Rule:

Riders must decide if their mount is either a Show Horse, Show Hunter or Working Hunter.

They cannot compete on the same mount in more than one class.

Show Horse classes will be conducted under the National Show Horse Rules and Guidelines, which can be obtained from the website.

A Show Horse

Is a quality, comfortable, well mannered, educated riding horse that is sound. The horse should be excellently presented and give the appearance of being a pleasure to handle, watch and ride. It is entirely up to the talent of the rider and those connected to the horse to prepare and show it in the way in which it looks and performs best.

Should work with a nicely rounded back, naturally elevated in front and head

flexed at the poll. The contact should be light and even. Must give the impression of covering the ground easily and fluently. The

horse must be well balanced and work without any obvious effort by the rider or any untoward resistance from the horse. The whole picture should be pleasing to the eye. The Show Horse should go forward with controlled free forward movement, the correct bend and an even rhythm in all paces at a tempo chosen by the rider.

A Show Hunter

The main criteria for a Show Hunter is that is exhibit correct conformation, 3 clear paces and faultless education, each individual should therefore be able to cover the ground in a workout which always includes a gallop. Manners are extremely important and small misdemeanours, which may be overlooked in a Show Horse, should be penalised in the Show Hunter.

Show Hunter classes are to be ridden in school uniforms for Interschool competitions. Judges/stewards may need to classify horses to ensure the right type competes in the Show Hunter classes.

Once a horse has been shown as a Show Hunter, it must continue to be shown in these classes for the whole competition year. There are Show Hunter classes at the State Championships separate from the hack classes.

Number of Horses

Riders may ride more than one horse on the day in the Show Horse, Show Hunter or Working Hunter classes.

Conditions of Entry

This event is being conducted under the rules as per the IQ Handbook 2017 and EA and FEI Rules where applicable. It is your responsibility to read your Handbook and be aware of these rules.

Riders/Horses must be registered with the Inter-School Queensland Sport Committee.

The organising committee reserves the right to accept and/or reject entries. Competitors are reminded that Medication Control (swabbing) can occur at any event run under Equestrian Australia rules and regulations.

PIC Number/ DPI

It has been a requirement of Equestrian Queensland since the beginning of 2011 that all members submit a PIC number for the property where their horse is located. Please ensure you have your PIC number as you will need to enter this PIC number on www.nominate.com for your nomination to be accepted. Competitors will be required to comply with current DPI regulations at the time of the event, including waybills where required.

Competitors are asked to familiarise themselves with current Biosecurity Queensland best practise at equestrian events in regard to health and safety of humans and horses.

NB – Your Horse Heath Declaration Form (See Below Link) will need to be PRINTED OFF AT HOME and brought with you to the event. NO FORM = NO RIDE.

Rider Numbers

IQ members will use their laminated numbers (issued by IQ) or bridle numbers and these are to be attached to both sides of the horse.

Soundness

The Judges are required to satisfy themselves regarding soundness of all horses and therefore have the authority to stop an unsound horse during the competition or from competing – any disputes in this area will be considered by the ground jury on the day and/or the Technical Delegate. For Dressage, there is no appeal against this decision.

Behaviour

When representing their school and while on competition grounds, all competitors must obey their school rules and competition etiquette. Those not adhering to this, risk elimination from the competition. Damage to any third party by anyone at the venue of the competition will be the responsibility of the adult involved or the parents or guardians of those who caused the damage. In particular IQ and the EA accept no responsibility relating to the use of motorised vehicles on the grounds over the course of the competition.



The following EA Codes of Conduct must be observed by all competitors and their parents/guardians, during this event. Those who fail to do so risk elimination from the competition:

Entries and Substitutions

On approval from the organisers at Emmaus College and Springfield Anglican College, riders may substitute an alternative horse up until the start of competition for the day providing details of the IQ horse/rider registration is presented to the organising committee. No rider may be substituted for another. Please contact primary contact as listed above.

Entry Fees

Will not be refunded after the close of entries. Exemptions on medical and/or veterinary grounds will be at the sole discretion of the organising committee and will require documentary evidence within 7 days of the event certified by a recognised and qualified medical practitioner/veterinarian and must be specific and relevant to the request for an exemption. The non-refundable Admin levy of $20 will be retained to help defray administration costs for any scratchings. No request for an exemption will be considered after commencement of the relevant discipline.

In the event of cancellation of the competition or part thereof due to any circumstance beyond the control of Emmaus College and Springfield Anglican College, entry fees will be refunded less the $20 per horse / rider combination non-refundable admin levy to help defray administration costs.

Competition Schedule

The competition times in the published schedule are correct at the time of publication and should be taken as a guide for competitors only.

Rings may run early due to scratchings. Please be attentive to announcements to this effect on the day. Riders may be invited to ride earlier, if convenient to the rider. If this is possible it would be greatly appreciated to help towards a timely finish.

Riders who are late and do not ride at their designated time, without prior approval from the organisers may face elimination.

Workouts will be as in the IQ Rulebook 2017.

Disputes

No competitors or parents are to directly approach any judges, stewards, course builders or any other officials or volunteers before, during or after the competition with disputes, complaints or queries. Any disputes, complaints or queries during the competition must be lodged in writing with the TD or ground jury through the Team Captain or School Convenor with a fee of $50 within 30 minutes of the event which gave rise to the objection. The decision of the Technical Delegate/Ground Jury will be final and may not be appealed. General questions can be asked in relation to errors on results or in relation to the running of the event through the event office.

Back Protectors

Back Protectors for jumping elements are not compulsory under EA rules. The IQ strongly recommends their use in the interest of safety.

Vehicles other than cars and trucks:

Emmaus College and Springfield Anglican College, the EQ and IQ accept no responsibility in relation to the use of motorised vehicles on the grounds over the course of the competition.

Motorbikes, four-wheelers, trikes or other such vehicles will not be permitted on the grounds where horses are being worked or competed and it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to enforce this ruling.

Users of such vehicles risk having them banned or expelled from the grounds if they are being used in a manner which is deemed dangerous or irresponsible by any member of the committee or by any competitor.

Helpers

NO HELP = NO RIDE – This is an IQ Rule....

Each rider will be required to nominate a helper for each class that they nominate in and a helper’s roster will be published in the week prior to the event. We will make every effort not to clash help times with ride times however with multiple disciplines this sometimes becomes necessary so please keep this in mind when nominating several horses or in several disciplines.

It is the responsibility of each rider and their helper to ensure that they check this roster and complete their nominated tasks or find an appropriate substitute person to do so. A rider competing in more than one discipline may be allocated a job per discipline. Failure to nominate a helper will result in the nomination being discarded and failure to complete the assigned tasks during the competition may result in disciplinary action being enforced by the IQ committee. For further information, see 2016 IQ Handbook in relation to this matter.

Please do not put the committee or your child in this situation. If everyone lends a hand it means less work for everyone.
