Witnessing Monthly Witnessing Opportunities Some of the many witnessing opportunities include: the Westside Homeless Shelter -providing a dessert or casserole (sign up at the Welcome Center), donating men’s clothing (place in bin near offices), washing the feet of men at the shelter on the first Wednesday of the month (June 1); at Johnnycake Elementary School- volunteer in the classroom, in the office, or in the library for a couple hours a week; at Augsburg Lutheran Home-spending time with the residents, playing games, answering phones or collating papers; at BARCS animal shelter or donating non-perishable food items for the church pantry or volunteering at our school or Emmanuel Lutheran School Field trips, GRADUATION, and the end of the school year! Please continue to find ways to support our school ministry and continue to encourage others to consider blessing their children (or grandchildren) with an ELS education. Interested in attending Emmanuel Lutheran School? Contact one of our admissions counselors for a tour by calling 410-744-0015. We’d love to show you what a wonderful school we have!! Letter from Former School Parents: Rev. Schultheis, It is with pleasure that we give you this small token of our appreciation to support god’s work at ELS. Our son entered Emmanuel in the 6th grade. Mr. Doede, Mr. Doede,, Mr. Riemer, and Mrs. Meilillo challenged and nurtured him and for that we are forever grateful. Our son went on to study Information Technology at Western School of Environmental Science and Technology. In the fall of 2011, he will enter Penn State University in the honors program on a full scholarship. He is also a recipient of the National Security Agency’s 2011 Stokes Educational Scholarship. We believer that the foundation that he received at Emmanuel was instrumental in his ability to go on to achieve such high honors…. In Christ, Danny & Annette Hicks

Please submit your suggestions to nominating committee chair Bernie White (410-788-5347 or [email protected]). Plan on attending the Voters’ Meeting immediately after the 11am worship service. And bring something to share for our potluck lunch! Book Club Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen is our Book Club selection for the fall. After a failed attempt to scale the summit of K2, Mortenson recovers in a Pakistani village and discovers how few educational resources are available to their children. He returns to America, establishes a charity and begins building schools in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Most recently Mr. Mortenson has come under fire for his use of the foundations’ money and the effects of schools which have been built. Join us at 2 PM in the library at Augsburg Lutheran Home on Sunday, September 11, 2011 to discuss this controversial author. Contact Cor-Rae Petri at 410-750-0757 for more information. Strawberry Festival at Augsburg Come out on June 11, from 10:30am-2:30pm for a day of live entertainment, hot food, silent auction, bake table, kid’s games and more at Augsburg Lutheran Home, 6811 Campfield Rd, 21207. Financial Update As of April, the current expense deficit is $19,345 (an improvement over last year’s deficit of $90,230). In April, offering receipts are slightly ahead of last year, though overall about $20,000 below the amount budgeted. Tuition receipts are still below expectations. Expenses, in total, are slightly above budgeted amounts. Expected full year deficit is in the range of $30-50k. What can you do? Continue the faithful and regular giving of your tithes and offerings. Send in tuition payments on time. Look for extra opportunities to support our ministry.
