Energy Management Ltd. (EML)

Founded in 2013, EML is an Energy Services Company (ESCO) that of offers energy-efficient lighting solutions / products and professional energy-saving advice locally. The company is an authorized distributor (Belize and Quintana Roo, Mexico) for Amko Solara - a world leader in induction lighting technology. As a differentiating advantage EML carries out lighting efficiency surveys and conducts ‘no charge’ pilot projects for clients to come ‘face to face’ with the real savings before doing a major project. The business was formed as a result of its principals (2 ‘born and bred’ Belizeans) sharing a vision to supply Belize with modern and relevant solutions to the longstanding challenge of electricity cost. The company’s principal offering is energy-efficient lighting conversions otherwise known as retrofits or retrofit projects however EML’s vision encompasses growth into the refrigeration, air conditioning and building enveloping areas within the next 5 years.

Recent notable contracts include works done for: Atlantic Bank, Belize Bank, Citrus Products of Belize Ltd., Santander Sugar (Green Tropics), Heritage Bank, Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel, Marie Sharps Fine Foods and the Kolbe Foundation among others.

Light Stories(Some of the folks we’ve helped)

Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Belize City

In May 2014, KHMH became the first public entity to make a sound move toward energy efficient lighting in Belize. Having completed a new parking lot, the national hospital installed 40W induction lamps in place of the usual 100W sodium lamps whose bulbs last one fifth of the lifespan offered by induction lights. Backed by a 5 year warranty, KHMH's Amko Solara lamps benefit the hospital-visiting public for years to come while providing much needed savings. The hospital has illuminated its main entrance area with 4 Amko Solara Roadway Models.

Belize Diesel & Equipment this year raised the bar by adopting Amko Solara Induction Lighting in its showroom. Replacing 100W lamps with induction 35W garage luminaires the dealership made a noteworthy energy-saving and environmentally friendly decision. The high color rendering index provides excellent illumination for display which Toyota, marquee motor brand, deserves.

Belcan Bridge, Belize CityIn September of 2015 Belize City’s Belcan Bridge underwent a major lighting upgrade when overhead street lights were converted to 49w LED lamps. This conversion has reduced energy consumption by two thirds, and the ‘brightness’ of the lamps provides safe illumination for pedestrians and motorists.

Northern Fishermen Coop., Belize City

The lighting project for the Northern Fishermen Cooperative Society, on the banks of the Belize River involved internal and external lighting where, in some instances, none had existed before. EML replaced less-than-efficient lighting in their parking lot (to help combat criminal activity which had resulted in a series of thefts from vehicles) and the plant room with LED flood and high bay lamps, and added two additional flood lamps to illuminate the exterior of the building and their wharf (as shown above).

Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel, Belize City

Better lighting means better employees at the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel's kitchen where we did retrofits with Osram LED tubes in the summer of 2015. EML continues to retrofit the hotel’s offices to date.

EML also retrofitted the hotel’s parking lot with Induction lighting where ‘the hotel went’ from 175w high pressure sodium lamps to 80w induction lamps and also achieved better illumination as can be seen from the Philip Goldson Highway on any given night.

Atlantic Bank, Belize City

A very recent project was the lighting up of Atlantic Bank’s rear parking lot, reducing energy consumption significantly and providing improved illumination for the guards that patrol the compound. Here we converted 150w HPS lamps to 50w LED lamps. EML employs the use of mechanical lifts in cases like these.

Coney Drive Roundabout, Belize City

Our first ever project – the ‘Coney Drive Pilot Project’, saw the ‘change out’ of 175w high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps to Amko Solara 80w induction lamps in November 2013, and still makes us proud every night. These lamps are “smart lamps” which means that they are ‘on a modem’ and we can schedule them to come on and go off from a remote location – essentially we send signals to a BTL modem on site and that modem ‘talks to the lamps’ over the very electrical lines. We donated the project to the city as a pilot project.

Kolbe Foundation

Kolbe saves $60,000 by switching bulbsThe Reporter Newspaper June 5, 2015

The Kolbe Foundation, which manages the Belize Central Prison, expects to save close to $60,000 a year ($5,000 a month) in electricity bills by switching to a new, energy-efficient lighting system provided by Energy Management Ltd – a local energy efficiency consulting contractor.

Chief Executive Officer at Kolbe, Virgil Murillo, told The Reporter this week that before the switchover, the prison’s electricity bill averaged around $8,000 a month, using 26 of the standard 1500 watt halogen lights to illuminate the yard and the outer layout of the facility.

Belize Medical Associates Ltd

The Belize Medical Associates, having received our Energy Saving Report and realizing how much they could save on their lighting bill, quickly proceeded with a pilot installation of LED 18w tubes, replacing 40w flourescent tubes in their Emergency Department Observation Ward (pictured above) .

Traveller’s Liquors

Traveller’s Liquors have replaced an old inefficient 175w high pressure sodium lamp with a sleek LED 50w post lamp, to provide bright lighting over the gated entrance to their rear yard, bottling and museum compound.
