Introduction
Platts is pleased to announce the arrival of EMIS 2.0 – the highly anticipated replacement of our original EMIS platform. With its improved stability and performance, easier navigation and better service and support, we are confident you will find EMIS 2.0 even more indispensable to your analytical needs than ever before.
This Quick Reference Guide will ease your transition to the new platform. But if you have any questions, please contact one of our Platts Global Product Support Specialists, listed in Attachment A.
Who Should Read This Guide
This Quick Reference Guide introduces new and experienced EMIS users to available functionality, and provides instructions on how to get the most from the EMIS 2.0 platform.
Overview of EMIS 2.0
EMIS 2.0 is a browser-based information retrieval system that provides users with real-time access to Platts textual pages and reports, as well as Platts numerical data. Platts has partnered with Interactive Data Managed Solutions to ensure the EMIS 2.0 platform provides users with up-to-date browser functionality, and custom features designed to work with Platts information.
While Platts content updates in EMIS 2.0 in real-time, you must refresh your browser to retrieve the latest updates in EMIS 2.0. Furthermore, when executing a search, using either the quick search or advanced described in this document, EMIS 2.0 applies the desired search criteria to all content contained in EMIS 2.0 at the time the search is requested, therefore when you refresh your browser or access a layout as described in this document, search results should reflect up to the minute matches.
EMIS 2.0 is also designed to be used exclusively by the person registered with the associated User ID. Any attempt to access EMIS simultaneously using the same User ID will immediately disable any previously active session.

Getting Started
First Login: After you log in, EMIS 2.0 redirects you to the default “My View” Home page.
From this page you can view and access the most recent news stories from Platts and/or select from one of the “Saved Layouts” listed in the right-hand side of the page to access a custom layout. Platts pre- loaded EMIS 2.0 with a few custom layouts to get you started. When you create your own custom Layouts, as described below, they too will be listed under “Saved Layouts” for easy access every time you enter EMIS 2.0.
Please note that if you maintain a “Default View” Saved Layout, it will automatically be loaded every time you enter EMIS 2.0 following the initial access.
Overview of EMIS 2.0 Navigation: Navigation Bars EMIS 2.0 uses two navigation bars. The top bar links to functional areas: News & Pages; Reports; Price Data; My View; and My Account and provides access to search functionality, while the second bar allows you to access content associated with each functional area.
Quick Search The primary navigation bar always includes links to quick search and “Advanced Search”.
Quick searches allow you to search for a particular piece of content using a combination of the page number and the Platts Service ID. To conduct a Quick search, pick a service from the “Select Service ID” drop-down menu, enter a page number in the “Page #” box, and click “GO”. This will display all available headlines for that page #/service line combination, sorted in descending order by date and time.
Please note that Platts page numbers can be a maximum four digits and can be represented with or without “leading zeros”, e.g. 12, 012 or 0012 all yield the same results.
EMIS 2.0 Quick Reference Guide
Version 1.0 Page 5
You can also select solely a Service ID (leaving the Page # blank) and click “GO” to retrieve all headlines for the associated Service ID, sorted in descending order by date and time. Attachment B contains a list of available Platts Service ID’s.
Advanced Search For greater control over your search EMIS 2.0 offers one of the most powerful advanced search engines available. Advanced Search is a filtering mechanism that allows you to refine the criteria that you wish to apply to searching Platts textual content. Advanced Search doesn’t just search historical content, it also filters new content published by Platts using the same criteria each time you refresh the view.
o Click on the “Advanced Search” link from the main navigation bar to access the Advanced Search Criteria box.
EMIS 2.0 Quick Reference Guide
Version 1.0 Page 6
o Select the combination of criteria for which you wish to search/filter using the available boxes
and the associated “connector” for each, e.g. And, Or, Not;
o Keyword (headline and/or body text)
o Page Number(s)
o Date Range
o Service ID(s)
o Topic Code (See Attachment C for a list of available Topic Codes)
o Click Search to instruct EMIS 2.0 to perform your search
Note: Where multiple search values are desired, the search criteria box provides corresponding on- screen instructions, e.g. to select multiple Service ID or Topic Code filters, depress and hold your keyboard’s “Ctrl” key while selecting the desired values with a left mouse click. Furthermore, to search multiple Keywords or Page Numbers simultaneously, delimit the values with a comma.
You can also apply powerful Boolean logic to keyword criteria within the corresponding Advanced Search Criteria box in addition to the above combinations. The following table provides examples of available keyword search logic.
Note: Keyword searches are case-sensitive
Keyword Technique Example Description Phrase search “Latin America” Use quote marks to search exact phrases.. AND America AND jet
or America,crude
The “AND” connector returns results where both keywords are contained in a story or headline. Using a comma separator has the same effect as using “AND”
OR America OR jet The “OR” connector returns results where either keyword is contained in a story or headline.
* Ameri* (returns America, American, Americas, Americanization)
The “*” wildcard takes the place of one or more letters. This is useful in the case of multiple spellings
”-“ Argentina -crude Argentina AND NOT crude Note: a leading space is required before each minus (“-“) sign preceding a keyword.
Component Search head: America text: America
By default EMIS 2.0 searches body text and headlines for keywords. You can limit your keyword searches to either headlines or text body using the term “head:” for headlines only, or “text:” for body text only, respectively.

Navigating EMIS
News & Pages: Platts provides real-time “Alert” services for the oil, electric power, natural gas, petrochemicals, metals and risk markets. These services include news, market commentaries, Platts’ proprietary price tables, and other fundamental information pertinent to the associated markets. A full list of these services is included as Attachment B.
Accessing Content The News & Pages tab on the primary horizontal navigation bar allows you to access headlines of relevant stories in real-time. Use the second navigation bar to filter the content by a specific market. You can click any desired headline at any time to access the underlying story.
Platts uses a “Service ID” to categorize different offerings, while specific content within a service is identified by a 1-4 digit page number. The Service(s) are shown in the rightmost column of the results window, while the page number is located in the first field of a headline.
Note: For true “news” pages, the page number has no relevance.
News & Pages headlines are displayed chronologically in descending order, so new stories always appear at the top of the page after refreshing by clicking your browser refresh button. You may search older content by clicking the “Next” link at the bottom of any page. Once you’ve clicked the “Next” link, a “Previous” and “Home” link will appear at the bottom left of the page to provide additional navigation.
An additional search box on the right side of the page allows you to modify your search by any combination of date range, page number, service id and/or specific keyword. See Advanced Search above for search tips.
Reports: The Reports tab allows you to access Platts’ summary newswires for the same market segments described above. You can read any specific report by clicking on its headline. Platts distributes reports

Version 1.0 Page 9
periodically (once per day, week or other frequency), depending upon the market. As with News & Pages content, you can filter Reports by specific markets, using the secondary navigation bar.
Here again, the headlines are arranged chronologically in descending order with the most recent report listed first after refreshing by clicking your browser refresh button. You can also navigate to older Reports by clicking the “Next” link at the bottom of any Reports page. Once you click the Next link, a “Previous” and “Home” link are posted at the bottom left.
The layout of the Reports page is slightly different from the News & Pages layout. In place of a “Service” column, the Reports page includes “Sub Market” and “Regions” fields. This is also designed to help you identify specific content more quickly.
An additional search box on the right side of the page allows you to modify your search by any combination of date range, specific content, page number, service id and/or specific keyword. See Advanced Search above for search tips.
Price Data EMIS 2.0 provides access to the complete comprehensive numerical database of Platts instruments. In order to assist you with finding a desired instrument, EMIS 2.0 provides two ways to search; by symbol or keyword (searches instrument description), or by using a navigation tree to view Platts instruments by data category.
Search by Symbol To find data for a specific symbol, select the “Price Data” tab in the primary horizontal navigation bar, followed by the “Search by Symbol” tab in the secondary horizontal navigation bar, enter the desired symbol in the “Change Quote” box, and click “Search”.
EMIS 2.0 Quick Reference Guide
Version 1.0 Page 10
This will return all information related to the requested symbol.
Search by Keyword To find an instrument containing a specific keyword in the description, select the “Price Data” tab in the primary horizontal navigation bar, followed by the “Search by Symbol” tab in the secondary horizontal navigation bar, enter the desired keyword in the “Change Quote” box, and click “Search”.
This will return all symbols containing the requested keyword in any Platts symbol description.
If the search returns more than one page of results, a “Next” link appears at the bottom right of the results page. As elsewhere, if you navigate to another page of results, a “Previous” and “Home” link will appear in the bottom left of the results page allowing you to step back page by page or to return to the first page of results, respectively.
Note: The search results display always provides the date of the most recent value so you don’t need to access the data to determine the latest available date.
Browse Symbols If you wish to browse available Platts instruments by data category, select the “Price Data” tab in the primary horizontal navigation bar, followed by the “Browse Symbols” tab in the secondary horizontal

navigation bar to access a hierarchical tree of available Platts data categories. Here, you can expand and contract the tree directory by clicking the “+” and “-“ buttons until you find the desired category.
Clicking on the category description will return all results associated with that data category. Like the keyword search above, multiple page results will cause a “Next” link to appear at the bottom right of the results page, along with “Previous” and “Home” links once you’ve moved past the first page.
Clicking your browser’s “Back” button will return you to the previous point in the hierarchical tree, while clicking the Browse Symbols button again will restart the search.
Note: Data Categories are the same as those available via Platts Dispatch service. The search results display always provides the date of the most recent value so you don’t need to access the data.

Accessing Data from Search Results Once you find the desired instrument using one of the search methods, you can access the underlying data by clicking either the “Latest” or “Custom” link in the “Price Data” column. “Latest” will provide the most recent observation associated with the selected instrument, while “Custom” allows you to define a specific date or range of desired observations.
Note: You will be charged a fee to access any time series data on a pay-per-view basis. EMIS 2.0 calculates fees and requires you to accept the fees before any results are provided. By clicking on the “Proceed” button, you agree to the charges and EMIS 2.0 renders the results.
Latest
If you select the Latest link, you will first receive the notice above providing you with the associated charge. To accept the charge and receive the results, click the Proceed button and EMIS 2.0 will render the results.
From the results screen, you can:

o Start a new search by entering new criteria in the “Change Quote” box and clicking “Search”.
Note: Once you leave the results screen, you will generate additional charges to return.
Custom
If you select “Custom”, you will be prompted for a custom date range for the price data query.
Once you enter the desired date range, click on the “Check For Price(s) button to instruct EMIS 2.0 to check for data associated with the desired instrument in the desired date range.
As is the case with accessing the Latest price, EMIS 2.0 then provides the number of observations returned that match the search criteria plus the fees to access the underlying data. Again, by clicking on the “Proceed” button, you agree to the charges and EMIS 2.0 renders the results.
From the results screen, you can:
o Export the results to a spreadsheet application by clicking the check box to the left of the description in the results area (a check mark must be present) and clicking the “Export Selected”. Selecting the check box to the left of the “Description” header selects all observations.

Note: EMIS 2.0 allows you to add a new module to a saved layout any time you use the Advanced Search functionality.
Additional controls are available once a Layout is created or accessed.
First, you can re-order the modules by using your mouse to drag and drop the module to the desired position. Simply position your mouse pointer in the title of the target pane until your pointer changes shape to indicate the pane is ready to move ( ), then click and hold the left-mouse button to “grab” the pane. Once grabbed, continue to hold the left-mouse button then move the pane to the desired location by moving your mouse, then release the mouse button to “drop” the pane in the desired location. This can be repeated with any pane until they are arranged as desired.
Additionally, within any pane you may set an Alert on any page by clicking the “Alert” icon ( ) to the right of the associated headline. This will redirect you to the “My Alert” page where you must complete the definition of the requested Alert.
My Alert “My Alert” provides tools to create and/or manage Alerts. Alerts are transaction-based instructions for EMIS 2.0 to deliver the associated content to your e-mail address when the underlying Platts page or report is published. Each Alert can be set up for only one unique piece of content however multiple Alerts can be arranged in a group making management more straightforward.
To set an Alert you must know the Platts Service ID and associated Page Number of the targeted content. You can find the latest Page directory at www.platts.com.
Following are the steps required to set an Alert
Version 1.0 Page 18
1. Insert the Page# in the input box provided (Note: multiple alerts can be set simultaneously by listing all targeted Page or Report numbers separated by a comma, as long as all alerts share the same Platts Service ID)
2. Select the Service ID from the drop-down list.
3. Select the Alert Category (Group) to associate the new Alert with, or select “Create New Category” from the drop-down list to invoke the “New Group:” dialog box where you can establish a new group.
4. Enter the new Group name (if applicable)
5. Select the desired Alert delivery method.
6. Select a user-defined name for the Alert.
7. Click “Setup” to save the Alert. You should also see the new group appear in the “Current Alerts” box in the lower right-hand corner of the My Alert page.
Note: EMIS 2.0 uses the e-mail address associated with your account when it was set up (see My Account to verify the address). E-mail addresses may only be modified by a Platts representative and changes typically take 12-24 business hours to complete.
You can also manage saved Alerts within the “Current Alerts” section. Click on the (“+” sign of any Alert group to display the detailed alerts associated with the group.
You can then Edit, Delete or Suspend/Reactivate a current Alert by clicking the plus ( ) icon to the far right of the Current Alerts listed to view the list of Alert Names stored within that Category then clicking the Delete, Edit or Suspend/Reactivate button that corresponds to the individual Alert in the Functions section. Please note that the Suspend and/or Reactivate button is a “toggle” switch, e.g. when an Alert is

suspended, the button will toggle to “Reactivate” to show that the Alert is currently suspended and when it is reactivated, the button will change to “Suspend”.
Finally, you can view the latest 10 Alerts by Category in the “Alert History” section using the same controls, e.g. by clicking the plus ( ) sign next to the Category name. You can click the ( ) button to collapse the associated section within the pane.
My Account Account Overview The My Account page provides reference information about your EMIS 2.0 account, and includes profile items such as; Login name, email address, FTP account, Subscribed Services and a summary of pay-per- view (PPV) charges for the current and latest two months.
You may also change your current password by entering a new password in the appropriate input box (1) then clicking the Change button (2).
EMIS is the only service offered by Platts that provides users access to content on either a pay-per-view (PPV) and/or fixed-fee basis simultaneously. The Subscribed Services list provides users with a list of those services that are billed on a fixed-fee basis. All other services are billed on a PPV basis.
The Charge Summary pane provides a summary of month-to-date charges, as well as charges for the two previous months.
Charge Details The Charge Details page provides details of every transaction that generated a PPV charge, including the date/time of the transaction, the specific content (service + page# for text, symbol for data), the delivery type (e.g. HTTP, email or FTP) and the PPV amount charged for the transaction.
Please note for data transactions since Platts charges a different amount for the Latest value versus a historical price, if a historical request includes the Latest date, the charge details will separate this request

into two (2) transactions; one for the Latest referencing the current rate, and one for the remaining symbols referencing the rate for historical data.
