“Eminem presents the RE-UP” // album analysis

Page 2: Eminem presents the re up

Front cover

The use of darker shades of brown and orange, conform to the stereotypes of hip-hop artists being pro gangs and violence. This album cover follows this by showing a group of men all dressed in baggy clothing, typical of a hip-hop group. Moreover there are people showing gang signs as well as fingers shaped like a gun.

The parental advisory sticker is a requirement for most hip-hop albums, however it is larger than most on this cover. This may be due to the artist, Eminem being well known for not caring and causing trouble, therefore he might want everyone to see this explicit warning.

The title is in the corner but still stands out, being very large and looks as if it was stamped onto the cover. This reflects how the artist feels people in hip-hop/rap are labelled.

The image of the group “D12” is on the front. Who are a know rap group who all have different personas, this images shows them all together. For example Eminem as slim shady.

Back

The back has a list of the songs in order, as well as who features on the track if anyone. However it isn't in a simple standard list it takes up more space than other albums

The images on the back continue from the ones inside of a microphone as well as piles of money. This could be done to show that he is rich but still in the industry.

The colour scheme of a black background with simple white text continues throughout the album. This could suggest how that majority of rappers are black and yet Eminem who is white is still here. This also links to the money.

The executive producer on the album is Eminem, therefore he has a title in bold at the back letting everyone know.

Inside. The inside consists of a book with a list of everyone involved in the album from singing to producing, as well as having a small poster of the group in the morning.

The image consist of a vinyl player, a stack of CDs, the previous D12 album, a mixer from a DJ set as well as a mic, money and a tape. All these are there to show the evolution of rap music, and could suggest that the group has been around through the changes

The same image is under the CD, just at a different perspective looking at the whole room instead of all the items on the table.

The colour scheme of the album continues on the inside with mainly dark colours such as brown/black and white text. This could be used to show how dark the genre is.

At the back of the image we can see a worn down kitchen. This is there to show how most of the rappers came from nothing, or were living in really bad conditions growing up.

Inside cont.

The poster that is inside the booklet in the album. It shows the group posing like a team photo from a sports team. Showing how they worked together on this.

The image shows them on the same background as the colour scheme, showing a dirty brown colour showing how rap isn't clean.
