HINTS ON CASSETTE TAPE

Standard tape lengths have 15 (C-30) and 30 (C-60) minutes of recording time on each side.

Longer length tapes of 45 (C-90) and 60 (C-120) minutes recording time on each side

are available, but because longer tapes in the same size package necessitate use of thinner

materials, the chance for malfunction such as tape spillage from the cartridge, internal

binding of the reel, and tape tearing is much greater. Longer length tapes are not

recommended. Use only high quality tapes and if a problem develops, check unit first

with other cartridges to determine if the problem is with the cartridge, and not with the unit.

ERASURE OF RECORDINGS

When a new recording is made, any program material previously recorded is automatically

erased and only the new recording remains.

SAFEGUARD AGAINST ACCIDENTAL ERASING

To safeguard valuable recordings from being erased accidentally, the cassette and the deck are equipped with a special device. On the back of the cassette there is a lug on each side. To prevent accidental erasing break out these lugs with a screwdriver. If only one track is to be protected, break out the lug of the left side with the side desired facing you. To record on a tape in which the lug has been broken, place a piece of adhesive tape over that area.

If there is any slack in the tape in the cartridge, this should be removed before inserting cartridge. To do so, place a pencil in one of the hubs and rotate toward the outside of

the cartridge as shown until all slack is taken up. Cassette cartridges permit playing and recording on both halves of the tape. After the first

side of cartridge has played, press the STOP/EJECT button and remove the cartridge. Turn it over, re-insert, and close door, second half is noW ready for playing or recording.

• CARE AND MAINTENANCE CLEANING

To prevent fire or shock hazard, disconnect your unit from the AC power source when cleaning. The finish on the unit may be cleaned with a dust cloth and care for as other furniture. Use caution when cleaning and wiping the plastic parts. Mild soap and a dampered cloth may be used on the front panel. Periodic cleaning of the tape head and capstan is necessary to maintain good reproduction of sound. The build-up of iron oxide particles, which is often even more severe with inferior tapes, will reduce the performance of the tape. It is recommended that after every 100 hou rs of use, Or more often if playback has deteriorated, to clean the head and capstan. To clean the head use a cassette head cleaner, available in any record shop.

NOTE: Never use any metal objects on or near the tape head. Do not allow any cleaning material to fall into tape assembly. Do not use carbon tetrachloride as a cleaning agent.
