Dear Friends,We have ended the first six months of 2018. While we are swiftly progressing through the second half, I would like to share some information on what we can do to achieve our goal at the end of the year and set higher goals for the forthcoming years.I will start with mentioning the concepts of control, impact, and interest areas briefly. There are numerous factors affecting us like the dynamics of the automotive sector, global finance, our customers‘ financial condition, and the development of the competition. These are the factors which we cannot control but which affects us indirectly, the factors in relation with us; that is to say, our area of interest. Apart from that, we have a large area of impact that we can affect through the results of the works we perform, such as customer satisfaction, supplier selection and management, social responsibility projects, and environmental sensitivity, etc. At the very core, we have an area of control, each step of which we are responsible for, and which takes place through our superintendence such as quality, efficiency, project launches, and customer audits. The more successful we become in our area of control, the more we can expand and manage our areas of impacts. If we can manage such two areas accurately, we can make the right predictions, identify the risks, and take precautions. As a result we can minimize the negative impacts that can be posed on us by external factors, such as economic depressions or harsh market conditions, and we can even turn such negativities into opportunities. In sum, the secret is to be very good in the field that we can control; but, how?

Constant ImprovementOn the fourth and fifth pages of the SP News, you can see the bigger picture regarding the work we conduct as the Standard Profil Group. Each of us is forming a part of the bigger picture and the picture is not complete if a part of it is missing, regardless of whether it is substantial or trivial. Concisely, whatever duty we may have, it has an impact and highly valuable contribution to our Group. We must do what we are doing very well and improve and develop it constantly for the continuity of our Group and for our own personal improvement. For constant improvement, there is a methodology developed by Edwards Deming, American engineer and management consultant, and applied in almost all sectors in the world:

plan – Do – CheCk – aCt This “Deming Circle” that consists of four simple steps does not actually provide magic information. The important point here is that this circle can be applied to all kinds of works, whether they are for long or short term, or small or big. The secret is to perform all these steps completely and without skipping any of them. This bring us high performance in whatever we are doing. In order to ensure constant improvement, it is necessary to apply this circle consecutively, continuously and in a systematic manner. As the Standard Profil Group, our age average is 35, our training period per person is approximately 25 hours and increasing each year, and we have lots of competencies… In a nutshell, we have the required resource, training, and energy to do our job perfectly and render it sustainable. I truly believe that we, with such dynamism, will bring along better business results and celebrate our achievements all together by means of working in a more planned manner and constantly improving and developing ourselves and others. I wish you days during which we expand our control and impact area, make plans very well, implement them with excitement and eagerness, control each detail of them, learn from our mistakes, and start acting again resiliently…

“Project Management Award” from Toyota to Standard Profil Toyota, one of the prominent automotive producers of the world, has deemed Standard Profil worthy of its Project Management Award for the second time consecutively.

An award was presented to our Group by Toyota, one of the world’s biggest automotive

brands. We were considered worthy of this award for new Auris, new Corolla, and new Yaris projects that we implemented in 2017, due to our

successful project management, our 100 percent compliance with the customer timing plan, our fast and solution-oriented responses to the demands of the customers, and our proactive approach. The projects which were run by Okan Karakoç,

Necati Mutlu Dağhan, and Emre Sezgin from the project management section were supported by the production and quality teams in Manisa 1, Manisa 2 and Düzce plants. Emre Sezgin, Toyota Project Director, advised about the issue, “We are very proud to be deemed worthy of an award from Toyota, a firm whose brand value is among the top twenty in the world. The start of production dates of new Auris and new Corolla are 2019 and for new Yaris 2020. If we perform such project launches well we have a chance for this award also in the years of 2018 and 2019.

Graduated two years ago from Tecnologico de Celaya University Electrical Engineering Department,

Maria Cardenas is conducting successful works in the Maintenance Department of our Mexico Plant. Maria whose area of expertise is automotion says that Standard Profil has presented huge opportunities for her self improvement: “At Standard Profil, I am conducting improvements on the touch interface programs and programmable equipments

like PLC ve HMI by means of intervening with the equipment with errors in their programming. I perform the enhancement of the equipment that optimizes breakdown period.I was at a classroom dominated by males when I was studying at the university. It used to be said that the department was a racing arena for males. However, I never believed in this idea and I believe that men and women have the same talent in all career areas. In the same way, I am at SP’s Maintenance Department where male

employees are more intensely present. I am very happy I am doing this job. I am learning new things by encountering different problems every day. SP has presented me with the opportunity for self improvement, growth, and travel. I love my job very much.

Automotive industry plays the leading role in digitalization

Standard Profil It GrouP dIrector fatIh Kurt

The automotive industry that leads the industrial revolutions assumes a central role in digital transformation as well. Such change in automotive, that is the trailblazer of technology and standardization, will also affect the entire automotive and supplier ecosystem.

development of the technologies that facilitate daily life and businesses, groundbreaking innovations, and the new user

groups brought along with them show that progress is toward digitalization in an unpreventable manner. being the mastermind of the 4th Industrial revolution, Germany created the roadmap of this journey in 2013 and published its second and revised version in 2016. Industry 4.0 is a journey of transformation required for the integration to the system that takes place in global dimension, differently from establishing individual systems by receiving the equipment of high technology. This long journey has numerous subprocesses. for the completion of all such processes in a healthy manner, it is necessary to start now to establish the infrastructure of technology, education, and human resources and adapt the previous structure in line with the new requirements. It is a requirement to capture the situation at hand realistically. details such as “to what extent are the processes being conducted around automation for the time being?”, “is production being conducted according to Industry 2.0 and 3.0 standards?”, “how much have the processes been standardized?” must be clarified. on the other hand, it is a highly critical issue that the infrastructure and human resource that will be required as long as the transformation takes place in industry are to be planned and prepared for the medium and long terms, from today.

how wIll the Sub-InduStry be Affected? The automotive sector, that leads the industrial revolutions, assumes a central role in this transformation as well. This change in the oems that are the banner-bearers of technology and standardization will affect

the entire automotive supplier ecosystem. examples like the personalized tools, full digital integration of the supply chain, and integration of the parts produced with the vehicle system clearly demonstrate what kinds of impacts it may subject us to as the suppliers despite the fact that we are right in the beginning of the process of digitalization. The need for employment and human resources in each sector will be affected differently from the 4th Industrial revolution. In the sectors where muscle power will be replaced by robots or cobots and brain power by artificial intelligence, the possibility of reduction in workforce is very high. however, the new occupations and production increase that will emerge through such transformation will demonstrate that employment will increase as opposed to what is being contemplated. The important thing is to train the existing workforce in a way that they will have the capability and skill required by new jobs and to prepare the environment for the young ones who will take part in the workforce in our company.

InformAtIon technoloGIeS At SPAs the Standard Profil Information technologies team, we are developing the fast and tailored solutions for us, to for the data exchange with our customers and suppliers, for the most accurate functioning of our processes, and for effective communication and information-flow between our employees, anywhere our Group exists. It is not easy to find the efficient and reliable solutions within a structure such as Standard Profil Group which expands to five continents, employs eight thousand people, and which has clients in over 25 countries. Therefore our team, that provides services to entire SP in two different groups as software and hardware, keeps constant track of the technological developments like the Industry 4.0 I mentioned above and identifies the implementations that suit us, as well as fulfilling the current needs.

we have taken the first steps toward global digitalization, a part of our Information technologies strategy, with the SAP and cloud platforms. This process is ongoing with the projects like SPc (Success Power center), Ariba, e-reconsiladition, e-workflow, and Plm west and the change will be also continued by the addition of production processes and supply chain. As the completely digital world will bring along new and different cyber threats, the first priority in each new step to be taken will be cyber security. In addition, our biggest power in the harsh environment of competition is our corporate memory, know-how, inventions, and processes… In a nutshell, all kinds of data and information that are specific to us are extremely valuable and must be safeguarded in the best way. here, information safety also stands out and we all have tasks to fulfill in this sense.

As the Standard Profil Group, Turkey’s leading company in the sealing profile systems of the automotive industry, we were deemed worthy of an award for being Turkey’s third most

rubber-exporting firm. In the award ceremony the companies from the chemical industry, which provided substantial contribution to Turkey’s economy with over 16 billion-dollar export last year, were rewarded. The ceremony took place with the participation of Fatih Metin, Vice Minister of Economy; Mehmet Büyükekşi, President of Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM); and Murat Akyüz, Chair of the Board of Directors of İKMİB, at Raffles Istanbul Hotel. Our Group was among the awarded companies just like last year. Teoman Yücel, our Düzce Plant General Manager, attended the award ceremony in representation of our Group.

Our future grOwth DePenDS On the cOllaBOratIOn Of Our teamSAll of our employees have a major impact on the results we obtain with the works they do. Our job as the management team is to help everybody to look for savings and generate with the whole team a “passion for results.” I think that this is the only way to have sustainable success. On this market of automotive body sealing systems, a key element is to be a “problem solver” for our customers. Being fast and agile during the development and project phase as well as bringing up new innovative ideas are essential for our future growth.

Each product bearing the name of Standard Profil that takes place among the giants of the world in its sector comes into being through the labor of a huge team. A hectic work process starts following the customers‘ requests. This process grows bigger and expands into each line of business wave

by wave. Strategies are identified, R&D activities are accelerated; samples are prepared and tests are conducted on the product; purchases are realized; communication with the customer is kept tight on each stage; production is started; the quality of the product is inspected precisely; revisions are made on the product… Each line of business works up a sweat in putting the project into practice separately just like the parts of a puzzle. The sealing profile with the Standard Profil logo, having gone through significant stages, is presented to the customer. Our products that meet the vehicles at the OEM plants ensure the comfort of drivers and those people traveling on cars. Our products that provide the possibility of comfortable journey to the people within vehicles thanks to their noise, heat, and dust insulation are being lightened through the Standard Profil research and production technologies to support the reduction of fuel consumption.

Everything starts with a request from the customer. Just like a piece of stone thrown into water, its impact grows ring by ring and expands along all lines of business of Standard Profil. This request is first turned into a project, and then a sample upon long efforts, and finally into a highest quality product to be delivered to the customer. Each department, ranging from customer relations to sales, from production to human resources, from internal audit to finance, from R&D to procurement and quality, serve the emergence of a product. The keywords in all those processes are cooperation and communication. Strong cooperation among the units determines the level of the result obtained. Each job has a substantial value within its own process. The sealing profiles on which the Standard Profil logo affixed in the entire world exist through the labor of almost every employee. Like the parts of the whole complementing each other, the goal is set to bring the Standard Profil brand to much higher levels by means of the works conducted altogether and with a team awareness.

This is the stage during which the market

is monitored, opportunities are identified, and data regarding the

development/improvement of products and processes are collected in line with the business targets

and strategies of the Standard Profil Group. In order to acquire a new project, automotive producers we call oem has to request

a proposal from us. our ability to receive that proposal, called rfq (request for quotation), is determined by our quality in our current

works, our capacity to present competitive prices, and our capability of developing innovations regarding the products and processes.

At this stage, the quotation is prepared according to the customers request.

Since the preparation of the quotation determines the outcome as well as what to do when the project is acquired,

it is a process that requires extreme care and contribution of all the relevant units. The resources to be spent on the design and development process and materials and services required for their production are determined and cost

is calculated. The most appropriate plan for the customer and the project is made and the budget is presented to the customer.

ACQUISITON & QUOTATION

The planning stage starts with the approval of the quotation by

the customer and assignment of Standard Profil for the project.

The project team is determined and works on the roles of those

who will take part in the project and the things to be done by them

within the team are defined. characteristics of the customer and

its requirements and expectations in terms of this project are handled

comprehensively and a roadmap is designed.

OPPORTUNITY SELECTION

PLANNINGAt this stage, tests are conducted and sample product is prepared. final controls and analyses are performed together with the customer and required revisions are completed. molds, production equipment, and the processes are made ready for production. now the countdown starts for starting production!

VERIFICATION

This is the stage where the product is designed and analyses and measurements are made. The new born product starts to take shape. The machinery and equipment required for the production are also identified and developed at this stage and the procurement processes are started.

DEVELOPMENT

PRODUCTION/AUDIT

DELIVERY

customer audits the entire production process at the SP plant where the project will be produced. upon the final approval of the customer, operation takes start. from then on, the project is converted into the product in the skillful hands of our engineers and operators working at the Production department.

The diligently prepared products are packaged and dispatched for the

delivery to the customer with the same care. even a smallest interruption in

this tedious process, a tiniest scratch on the product, or a few hours of delay

might affect the very beginning of the entire process, up to the ability of

acquiring a subsequent project. The process is completed successfully with

each product perfectly produced and delivered to the customers thanks to our customer oriented approach, our

passion for high performance, our awareness regarding quality, and our

As the Human Resources teams, we are trying to provide our support to all departments and employees at each step in the journey of our product. We are developing trainings, systems, and methods for the attainment of the business targets of our Group and for the personal improvement of our employees. In

this regard, our six basic values stand out when we describe how to work at SP:

We should think strategically, keep our customer focus, be passioned for high performance, be agile in changing conditions, work in cooperation and

with team spirit, and, of course, we must place “people first” into the center of any we conduct. We can achieve our goals only with feedback and dialogue culture; with sections, units and

QualIty IS the jOB Of everyOne, nOt juSt a SIngle SectIOnAs we always say, quality is the job of everyone, not a single section. The awareness regarding quality must be our priority at all stages. For that, it is very important to predetermine the risks and take preventive actions. In addition,

ensuring synergy within the Group and for us

to produce more successful results with higher quality. We expect all colleagues to progress without compromising quality in their works and private lives.

Acting as a window between our customers and our group, we are the ears and the mouth of SP. As the sales, we gather all relevant SP departments around the table to team-up as a strong partner to our customers. After receiving the RFQ,

we try to acquire customer’s project approval. In this process strategic thinking, agility and

collaboration with other units is essential. As

In the Standard Profil Group, production is at heart of our activity. In order to deliver the best results, all departments need to support production by designing easy to manufacture products, develop efficient processes, buy suitable materials, and ensure employee training and a safe work environment. In the Production Department, staff should follow the rules & standards, act based on data, and implement a continous improvement culture. In my opinion, moving all together in the same direction is the only way to have a sustainable success. When we are able to listen to others,

the cultural and social diversity inside our group becomes a strength and at the end we can be only ONE .

Internal audit department contributes to the achievement of corporate objectives by assessing the internal control system with a risk based systematic approach. We assess the project management process as one of the high risk/potential areas of Standard Profil. As all functions involved in the process manage the activities according to the written policies and procedures in a harmonized approach effectively in collaboration, SP gets stronger with increased durability. Therefore this risk turns out to be a strength and opportunity of SP, whenever managed appropriately. Internal Audit is

contributing to this process with the periodic reviews. We are here to assist you, whenever

you need an advice.

Approximately 650 people are employed at the Production department of the plant situated in the province of Stara zagora. This powerful team consists of employees who are qualified in their jobs. each stage of production progresses with a professional approach to

An operations manager lead the Production department and there are two business unit managers reporting to them. Area responsibles who follow them are the executives who manage the Shift leaders. The bulgaria production team has recently been in an exciting period of anticipation; Skoda stands out as the newest and most expected project of the Plant. Approximately 650 people are working at the Production Department of Standard Profil

Bulgaria Plant. This powerful team consists of the employees who are

period of preparation for the projects that will commence soon.

We can summarize our main goals for 2018 as continuous improvement, successful launches of new projects, increasing productivity, and maintaining the high quality in production. The most important thing is to keep on our journey by maintaining our main specialists and key workers and to become a preferred employer. The automotive industry is among the fastest growing industries in Bulgaria. We hope that this industry continues to grow successfully in the future as well. 2018 is a year of optimization rather than growth. We are looking forward to the next project - Skoda, which will start in 2019 and will be the third largest for the company. Also, we have been approved as a Ford and Nissan supplier. The works on these projects will be launched in 2019 as well.

Our target for this year is to continue optimization in the best possible way

We attach great importance to the customers and their satisfaction. customer satisfaction increases the reputation of our Group and this brings along more orders and customers. Working with some of the largest automotive manufacturers and professionals is just one of the benefits provided by Standard Profil. the most important thing for us is that it presents the opportunity for self-improvement. We are continuously striving for better results. the main goal I have set is the occurrence of no accidents and no loss of working days due to an accident. In addition, we also want to achieve a significant reduction in scrap levels in production and in parallel decrease customer complaints. It is also very important to increase productivity.

I work with good managers; we all in the team are perfectionists, which we have proven with the successful launch of a major Astra project we have implemented. I think that in the future, we will not have a problem with the further challenges awaiting us. The process of starting new lines always brings along a number of difficulties, but we deal

with them responsibly and on time. SP allowed me to travel around the world and get to know other destinations where our factories are located. I have been in the company for 9 years, and I am in the current position for 3, maybe 4 years. The team is good. We have been working with some of our colleagues for many years, with others more recently, but what is common is that we look toward one direction and have the same goals. The main challenges for me are the technological start-up of new projects in the company. This process always brings along many ambiguities and obstacles, but thanks to our long experience, everything comes in place. I have learned to be more responsible and to see the work not just as an obligation but also as a thing to be performed with desire and satisfaction. Working in “Standard Profil” has given me the opportunity to travel to different places, each of which remains as a treasured memory for me. The visit to other factories of the company was an interesting experience because I saw the methods of work of our colleagues there, their attitude, and the point of view about things they do.

I believe in the power of teamworkdorotEya danchEva / shIft lEadEr

I am with SP Bulgaria for almost 5 years. I have a very good opinion about our team. collegial relations are good not only in production but also in our entire factory. the degree of interdepartmental assistance is very high. there are problems in every company, but here, solutions to problems are sought and resolved efficiently. one of the basic things I learned and continue to learn is teamwork. In the past, at my former workplace, the decisions I made were individual and difficult. this led to stress and restlessness for me. today, in Standard Profil, a decision is always made as a crew, as a team. this renders work more efficient, and makes me more relaxed. When I started in Standard Profil, everything was new to me- the organization, relationships, even the scale of the company. I can say I have undersigned successful projects; the most unforgettable one for me is renault X-ray.

Given that the home is where we spend many

hours throughout our lives, it is the place where the odds are that an accident of some

sort will occur.However, the

probability that the members

of a family will have an accident varies depending on who they are.

chIldrEn (mInors) thE EldErly

Accidents in the home are more common than we think: a fall in the bathroom, impacts against household furniture, accidental cuts or burns, ingesting toxic substances, etc. The most important thing is to act swiftly and in the most appropriate way according to the type of accident that has occurred. Having a First-Aid kit is crucial in an emergency. As we can see, in the home one is prone to numerous accidents. However, we can take a series of steps which will undoubtedly make our home a safe place.Above all, it is crucial that we demand and seek those safety features that we could call basic, such as those for electricity and gas. Electricity and gas installations must be safe and must respect the current regulations on maintenance. In addition, we must increase our alertness and caution, not only with respect to ourselves, but also for the two categories we have mentioned: children and the elderly. Finally, and this applies to all of us, we must follow safe habits in everything to do with appliances, products, installations and situations that arise in the home.

THERE ARE TWO GROUPS OF PEOPlE WHO HAVE ACCİDENTS MORE FREqUENTly:

Age and their life situation makes them the most defenceless and vulnerable of all due to their ignorance, lack of concern, weakness and mental characteristics. Nonetheless, the advice we give is valid for the whole family.

AccIdents In the homeThose accidents or fortuitous events, an unplanned and unwanted occurrence that causes damage, injury or some other negative effect to an object or person. An accident is the consequence of negligence in failing to take into account the risk factors or possible consequences of an action taken.

l Falls. l Fires and explosionsl Injuries. l Electrocution.l Burns. l Asphyxia caused by gas leaksl Impacts and entrapments l Swallowing toxic substances, allergies and irritations

l Inadequate lighting. l Lack of handrails on stairs. l Wet, damp or slippery stairs.l Standing on chairs or other objects.l Very high or narrow steps. l Burns in the kitchen or with an iron.l Running down stairs. l Poisoning with liquids or powders.

prEvEntIng mInor accIdEnts In thE homE:1) SharP edGeS:Be careful with sharp edges and hard surfaces; most contusions or impacts occur because of the edges of certain surfaces. If you cannot replace them with rounded corners, you must try to place the furniture so that it is not exposed to areas where people are passing through.

2) care WIth floorS:You should also refrain from waxing floors if there are small children or elderly persons in your home. rugs and carpets are very decorative but also dangerous in some situations; they can cause you to trip.

3) care WIth MedIcIneS and cleanInG ProductS: always keep all cleaning products, medicines and first-aid kit beyond the reach of children. children are very curious; they are attracted by the colours of the containers and they love to investigate. fit safety systems to the lower cupboard doors in the kitchen if that is where you keep cleaning products and always keep the products in their original containers.¬

4) SafetY MeaSureS for WIndoWS and BalconIeS:hand rails on terraces or balconies must be childproof. there are various products on the market that address this problem. they include raising the hand rails to placing a safety net. If your child’s windows do not have bars, check that the window is shut or if open, the blind is lowered.

5) chIldren’S toYS MuSt Be Safe:If you have children of different ages, teach the eldest that small parts may be very dangerous for his/her younger sibling. only buy toys that are correctly approved.

6) SafetY BarS on BunK BedS:If your children’s room has bunk beds, attach fixed safety bars to prevent possible falls while they are asleep.

7) IMPact and careleSSneSS:Whenever you take anything down from the higher part of a cupboard, etc. close the door. Many people come to a&e with an injury caused by the edge of door because someone forgot that it was left open.

8) accIdentS In the BathrooM:accidents in the bathroom are frequent and can be very dangerous (fractures of the pelvis, coccyx, twisted joints, etc.). Prevent this with a non-slip rug and, if you have elderly persons living in your home, fit a hand rail so that they can move more safely while at the same time maintaining their independence. If possible, replace the bath tub with a shower tray.

9) StaIrS:Get used to descending the stairs at a slow walking pace and holding the banister rail.

10) WalKInG Barefoot:to prevent impacts to bare feet when approaching the bed, purchase beds with feet that point inwards.

Autonomous driving has dramatically changed the paradigm regarding mobility. However, it is necessary to set the rules before making vehicle fleets free of steering wheels entirely. 94% of the executives of the automotive sector think that there will be a working and effective driving policy and autonomous driving rules will be created by 2040. There will also be significant infrastructure investments beyond cameras, radards, and algorithms. 74% of the executives taking part in the study believe that mixture of manned driving and autonomous driving traffics will create severe safety problems because it is impossible to include all possibilities in today’s vehicle traffic into an algorithm. Hence, use of the self-driving cars in “safe areas” is contemplated for a temporary period. One of the formulas is the creation of special lanes for the autonomous vehicles.

The RubberCon 2018 Conference where the latest innovations in rubber production will be made known to the industry was held this year and was hosted by Rubber Association in Istanbul. In the Conference attended by many experts and professors from the world, all four papers presented by our R&D team to the Conference Committee were accepted.

the Global Automotive Research conducted by KPmG contains very important data regarding the future of urban lives. In the

future where technology will entirely cover the automotive sector, the autonomous revolution will make the images in science fiction stories real. The research states that everything in the automotive sector that we know today will change by 2040. The study conducted with nearly 1000 executives from the automotive and technology sector and approximately 2,500 consumers from 43 countries is the harbinger of a very important transformation. hakan Ölekli, KPmG turkey Automotive sector Leader, said, “today, the top 50 automobile producers in the world is at the value of 20% of the top 15 technology companies. This figure was 40% in 2010. That is to say, the technology companies have now become the strongest players of financial markets.. If automotive producers want to survive against the technology companies, they have no other chance than cooperating with them. This is manifestly apparent. The collaborations like charging stations for electric cars and navigation show that the automotive producers have started acting that way.” Ölekli expressed also that according to the results of the study, the autonomous vehicles that we started to see more and more gradually will change life and cities. he added that a different route was set for the diesel vehicles that lost market share due to their impacts on the environment.

According to the topics of the KPmG Global Automotive Research, 56% of the automotive sector executives believe that the number of the retailers will decline by 30 to 50 percent until 2025. 80% of them consider the transformation of them into centers providing comprehensive services or selling

second hand vehicles as the only way for the retailers to survive. more than 80% of the executives say that the use of the automobile and driver data will be the foundation of the business models in the sector.

In such case, the standard equipment of connected vehicles must be redefined. For example, the data security and cyber security system on a vehicle will be one of the most important criteria in purchasing

automobiles in the future. Presently, three thousand different-model vehicles are being produced in over 700 plants in the world. only 2% of them are electricity powered. In the near future, not only electric cars

but also the ones working with different mechanisms will hit the roads simultaneously.

AUTONOMOUS REVOLUTION STARTSthe automobile sector that is the closest follower of technology is in a huge transformation. according to the Global automotive research conducted by kpmG, self-driving cars will steer the formation of traffic and change the life and cities in the future.

Life harbors numerous dangers within itself as well. We are not even aware of most of those dangers. A danger is a threat for humans and the

ambiance they are in. In general, we can define danger as “A source or condition that might cause people to be injured or become ill; goods

and materials to become damaged; and workplaces to become harmed.“

Danger Is the cause anD rIsk Is the resultEach danger creates a risk along with it. For example, a hot mold is a danger

and the touchng it by hand and getting burned is a risk. That is to say, a risk takes place as a result of dangers. The answer to the question of “What are the

accidents that occur or may occur at a workplace?” provides us with the risks that might be present at that workplace and the question about the factors giving birth to such risks defines what the direct dangers are. In the process of managing risks, identification of dangers constitutes the most important part. Respectively, dangers emerge from the danger source, dangers give birth to the risk, and finally damage occurs. Most fundamental objective of the works of Occupational Health and Safety is to ensure that the employees see the dangers in line with the discrepancies that might take place within the workplace and to create an accurate perception management to ensure that the risks arising from them are known. The process of defining the risks at workplaces is realized through the same question approach of the employees and by means of a systematic work on the creation of a common language. Employees‘ usage of accurate question patterns to identify a danger ensures that all the employees determine the danger in an accurate manner and through the same viewpoint.

the questIons that you wIll use DurIng the IDentIfIcatIon of Dangers In our works can be as follows:“Is there a source of danger in this work?”In this question, objective is to search for the source of a danger that might be caused by the works conducted by the employees.“If there is a source of danger, who can incur which damage?” In this question, learning of the situation of the impact in question is expected by means of questioning the existence of a source of danger.“How might the risk take place?” In this last question, the aim is to determine the emergence and possibility of the danger regarding manner of experiencing the source and the impact.Such question-asking approaches will create the ground for the efficient management of the danger and the source that might emerge in line with the job conducted by the employees and for the work of assessing the required activity planning through the understanding of risk management. This way, a proactive (preventive) understanding in the process of identifying dangers will also be provided. Danger and risks are seen most by those people who experience them. Many employees might see multiple dangers and risks at a workplace and bring a solution to some of them. However, most of them are to be eliminated or converted into an acceptable level by means of evaluation through teamwork. In addition, precautions must be taken at the different areas of the workplace for the similar dangers and risks. Employees generally cannot find the platform where they can advise such dangers and risks at their working areas and they might be hesitant to talk about them. For the process of revealing the dangers and risks that is the most fundamental factor in Occupational Health and Safety Studies, systematic methods are created and such circumstances are prevented.

Yavuz Ozan, Team Leader of Standard Profil Düzce Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Department, talked about the works conducted in Düzce. Mentioning the importance of the support of the employees in the activities

for Occupational Health and Safety, Ozan underlined that there is no occupational accident which cannot be

prevented as long as the required precautions are taken.

Safe driving is the name given to manner of driving vehicles in a way that we will protect ourselves from accidents as well as all the negative

circumstances and dangers that we may encounter in the traffic. Safe driving is first accurate driving of the vehicle and knowing the physical forces affecting the vehicle and the things that might cause the control of the vehicle to be lost. no doubt, ability to foresee from where dangers might come prior to entering traffic and driving the vehicle without risk is “crucial.” In addition to all of these, it is necessary to adopt safe driving as a habit to behave with respect and tolerance and understand the fact that anger would solve nothing everyone must understand this very well! unfortunately, most of drivers do not know what to do in those few seconds before an accident, which are very important. however, it may be possible to prevent the engagement in the accident if they are able to intervene in a timely and accurate manner. for this, adjustment of the seat position and holding the wheel with both hands stand out as the essential rules

mAkInG the AdJuStmentS comPletely And holdInG the wheel AccurAtelyIn order to drive your vehicle in a safe and controlled manner, your seat must be accurately adjusted. control of a car and

making it do whatever the driver wants (such as effective braking and emergency maneuver) are ensured through accurate sitting on the seat and accurate holding and turning the wheel. Therefore, when you get in your vehicle, you must make your adjustments completely even if you are about to travel a short distance.when adjusting your sitting position, your legs must not be flat when you fully press on the clutch or the brake and there must be approximately 150-160 degrees of angle at your knee. when adjusting the position of your back on the seat, we must grab the farthest point on

top of the wheel (12.00 o’clock on a watch) with our hand tight and make the back section of the seat upright. when we turn the wheel to both directions fast, our back must not draw away from the seat. This position will make it possible for you to see the road better, become less tired, reduce your waist and back pains during the drive, feel your

vehicle better, react more swiftly, and, most importantly, drive safely. The headrest of the seat must be adjusted in the manner that it will be at the same level as our head and 2-3 fingers away from it. headrest that saves our lives in a possible crash from behind also reduces the neck injuries in other kinds of accidents. Please remember to fasten your seatbelts on the front and back seats, sit your children on a special safety seat, and turn on your dipped headlights during daytime as well.

FOUNDATION OF SAFE DRIVING

SITTING ACCURATELY ON THE VEHICLE SEAT

For most of us, a considerable part of the day is spent driving. So, do we know the most basic rules for driving

vehicles? Or if we know then, do we comply them? Yener Gülünay, Advanced Driving Techniques Expert,

talked about the basics of safe driving.

rIsk notIfIcatIon carDsWe have developed a system where our employees can advise the hazards and risks that they encounter at SP Düzce Plant: “RISK NOTIFICATION CARD” application. With this application, our employees can easily inform the respective units about the risks that they have seen or identified and the near-miss events that they have encountered and, accordingly, numerous hidden dangers and risks are easily evaluated and required actions are taken. This application was started effectively in the middle of 2016 and totally 3849 notifications were delivered by our employees since then. For 88% of those notifications, the actions containing the required precautions were planned and closed.

This application is one of the cornerstones of the Job Safety Culture that will be created in a workplace and participation of all our employees is very important. Hence, ensure that all the risks of Occupational Safety and Health that you encounter and experience are certainly recorded.
