Emergency remote teaching is not online learning and it is temporary! Important to • provide learners with social support • be flexible and creative to deliver learning in a crisis • accept that emergency teaching is not likely to be as
high quality as normal provision
Barriers to implementing e- learning 68 barriers identified by Ali, Uppal & Gulliver (2018) when reviewing research on the implementation of e-learning. Link
• Inequality in access to technology (and internet) • Social support (support from family) • Sense of isolation due to less face to face interaction • Lack of ICT skills • Social loafing • Family commitments • …
• mentor (technology and subject) • motivator • monitor
Parents said they needed resources and guidance on • how the learning would be conducted • how to use tools • how to tell if their student was on track
Factors for student success: were that students needed to be: • self-motivated • engaged • participating and accountable
Technology was seen as a barrier for those students who were not successful.
(Curtis & Werth, 2015)
Learning types are based on an established educational theory called ‘Conversational Framework’ (Laurillard 2012)
