Emergency First Aid at Work This qualification provides a basic insight into first aid procedures, delegates will learn basic life support skills and improve their chances of coping with a casualty in an emergency. Employers should decide on the appropriate level of first aid training required by carrying out a “first aid needs assessment.” Should you need assistance in completing an assessment please contact Ouch. Who needs this qualification? The Emergency First Aid at Work course is more suitable for lower risk work environments, such as offices, shops or organisations with fewer than 100 employees. Anyone identified by their employer as being suitable to take on the role of an emergency first aider in their workplace. Why is this training important? Just imagine how awful it would be if one of your staff or visitors was injured or became ill at work. This course will equip delegates with the skills and knowledge to deal with life threatening conditions until help arrives. The H&S (First-Aid) regulations 1981 place a general duty on employers to provide first-aid treatment to employees within the workplace environment. If, having assessed first-aid needs, an employer decides to appoint first aiders, the first aider must have a valid certificate of competence. Learning Outcomes Successful candidates will be able to: Understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider Recognise and treat give emergency treatment for a casualty suffering a heart attack and understand how to use a defibrillator Know what to do if someone is having a fit Deal with burns and scalds Recognise what should be placed in a First Aid kit Administer CPR Deal with bleeding and head injuries Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking Manage a casualty who is in shock Manage a casualty with a minor injury Client specific areas i.e. stroke and use of haemo- static dressings Place pads and follow instructions of an AED unit Course Details Assessment Practical assessment and multiple choice examination Duration One day programme Venue Open courses at Ouch Training In-house courses available (12 max) Certification/Accreditation Certified by FAIB Prerequisites Must be able to participate in practi- cal sessions Testimonial “Very informative course, the trainer was down to earth and entertaining, which made it quite and enjoyable day.
