In continuing the value and stability of the T4-12 line, these larger-sized inserts all come with four curved cutting edges that lower the tooling cost per part and ensure smooth

machining operations. These inserts tangentially mount in their cutter bodies for increased performance stability and easier access to their mounting screws. Moreover, this type of mounting directs the cutting forces to the thickest part of the inserts, which contributes to the higher metal removal rates of these products.

Cutter diameters for the larger T4-12 square shoulder inserts range from 25 mm to 125 mm (1" to 5"), with corner radii up to 3.1 mm (0.125"). The inserts also come in a wide selection of grades and geometries. Normal and close pitch versions contribute to successful slotting/contouring and optimised contouring operations, respectively. Internal coolant channels within the cutters further maximise insert performance. Available mounting systems for T4-12 square shoulder cutters consist of various shank and arbor-style cutters.

Cutter diameters for the larger T4-12 helical inserts range from 50 mm to 100 mm (2" to 4"), with corner radii up to 3.1 mm (0.125"). The inserts also come in a wide selection of grades and geometries, including high positive rakes. Normal pitch cutters perform slotting and contouring operations, while close pitch versions only handle contouring, with a 30 percent radial width-of-cut capability in full axial depth-of-cut situations. Mounting systems for these cutters include Arbor, Weldon and Seco Weldon.

For more information on the T4-12 square shoulder and helical milling cutters, please contact a local Seco representative or visit www.secotools.com/squaret4

Square T4-12 Square Shoulder and Helical Range.

By adding larger insert sizes to its popular T4-12 line of square shoulder and helical milling cutters, Seco allows parts manufacturers to achieve increased depths of cut and higher metal removal rates when roughing and semi-finishing steel, cast iron and other workpiece materials.

NEW TWO-STAGE HELICAL BEVEL GEARBOXES WITH OUTPUT TORQUES UP TO 50 NM

Highly efficient helical bevel type units therefore now complement the line-up of worm gearboxes that is already available for small loads. Thanks to superior

manufacturing quality standards, the gear units are highly resilient and withstand large forces on the output shaft.

The short-term overload tolerance is 275%, which leaves enough time for the motor protection to kick in. Mechanical blockages usually do not cause damage, but the drive can start right up again without service interruption.

The new units are available for gear ratios from 3.58 to 61.88. They add a new size to the existing series that now comprises six sizes with output torques up to 660 Nm. NORD supplies the two-stage helical bevel gearboxes with hollow and solid shafts, single or double shafts, for foot or flange mounting, and in open or enclosed designs.

All versions feature a very high power density, ensuring robust reliability and easy handling. By default, the gearboxes support reverse operation. NORD custom-configures motors, drive electronics, accessories, gaskets, and lubricants for all industries.

One of the options, for instance, is the heavy-duty corrosion-protection treatment nsd tupH for the enclosure.

When Takehiko Yamaguchi founded NSK Ltd in 1916 with capital of ¥350,000 (€2655), the company became the first bearing manufacturer

to be established in Japan. Today, the company has the biggest share of the bearings market in Japan and is one of the largest bearing suppliers in the world. NSK has also diversified successfully into markets such as automotive products, precision machinery and parts, and mechatronics products, all helping to generate net annual sales (for the year ended 31 March 2015) of ¥974.9 billion (€7.4 billion).

From humble beginnings a century ago, NSK soon began to achieve growth serving Japanese sectors such as mining, railway, textiles and shipbuilding – all of which remain relevant markets to this day.

During World War I, shipbuilding and other industries saw further development, and Japan was well on track to furthering its position as one of the world’s leading industrialized nations. The following years witnessed NSK achieve many notable milestones. For instance, in 1932 the company produced Japan’s first tapered roller bearing for the gasoline fuelled vehicles axle used on the national railways. Just five years later, NSK established its Fujisawa

bearing manufacturing plant, which is today the company’s earliest-established facility still in operation (NSK currently has 22 production sites in Japan).

During World War II, Japanese industry shifted production to meet military demand. Under orders from the government, NSK built started the production of aircraft and automotive bearings. As the war progressed and bearings could no longer be imported into Japan, NSK opened a series of factories and continued to ramp up production capacity. Before long, the company began production of Japan's first modern design ball and roller bearings.

In 1945, NSK achieved another first in Japan, producing the main-shaft bearings for Japanese Navy Ne20 the country’s first turbojet engine. NSK has always taken on the challenge of entering new fields. Over the years the company has supported the development of industry by making significant contributions to the production of jet airplanes, thermal power plants, high speed railways Shinkansen, VCRs, satellites and high density HDD for PCs, to list but a few technological breakthroughs.

In 2016, NSK (Nippon Seiko Kabushiki-gaisha) will celebrate 100 years of providing the engineering market with optimised motion technologies.

NSK was listed for the first time on stock exchanges that included Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in 1949, a move that preceded a period of rapid economic growth in post-war Japan. A number of emerging target markets starting appearing in the late 1950s, with NSK providing bearings for essential home appliances such as vacuum cleaner, washing machines and refrigerators. Around the same time, the company developed precision ball screws for steering systems in cars and trucks.

In the following decade, after the establishment of its first overseas sales office at Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States, NSK continued to set up business locations overseas. The 1960s also witnessed the arrival of NSK miniature ball bearings for high speed dental drills, which rotate at around 450,000 rpm to reduce pain during treatment. In addition, NSK commenced the production of parts for automatic transmissions.

The 1970s saw NSK establish a manufacturing subsidiary near São Paulo in Brazil, followed by other new manufacturing subsidiaries in North America, the UK and Asia.

In 1982, NSK opened the electronics technology centre and expanded into the area of applied electronics, a move that led to today's mechatronics technologies, such as electric power steering (EPS) and human assistive robots.

During the 1990s, NSK acquired UPI, the largest bearing manufacturer in the UK, known for its RHP brand. Expanding production and sales locations in all European markets resulted in a stronger market presence for NSK in Europe. The same decade saw NSK rapidly expand its operations in Asian markets, particularly China. Here, the company set about strengthening its corporate structure to carry out research and development, sales and technical services locally. Other emerging markets, such as India and Indonesia, were also underpinned with new local production facilities.

In the 2000s, along with boosting exports from Japan, NSK also expanded its overseas production and continued to drive new product development. For instance, 2004 witnessed NSK mass produce the world’s smallest (at the time) deep groove ball bearing with an outside diameter of just 2 mm.

With the introduction of the Euro as the single EU currency came renewed economic ambition and growth across Europe. Headquartered in Maidenhead, UK, NSK Europe is currently nearing the end of a restructuring phase that will help the company serve its customers in an even more targeted and individual manner through further optimized services.

Their familiar form factor ensures that changing over from traditional linear luminaires with fluorescent tubes to LED light sources is an especially

straightforward process. In photometric terms, one 52 W luminaire is fully equivalent to two conventional 36 W fluorescent lamps. However, up to 100,000 hours of operation mean they achieve a far superior service life, as well as a high luminous flux of up to 5800 lm and excellent luminaire efficiency of well over 100 lm per W.

In addition, thanks to their slim, low-profile GRP housing, the lights weigh at least one third less than widely available competing products in the same class. Series 6002 models feature “increased safety” (Ex e) type of protection, while 6402 series luminaires are “non-sparking” (Ex nA). Notable for their very robust IP66/IP67 design, the products can be used at environmental temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +55 °C.

Both series feature very economical 28 W or 52 W standard versions. They are available with or without diffusers in lengths of 700 mm and 1310 mm. The current R. STAHL lighting solutions campaign provides instructive information on all crucial benefits of LED lighting compared with conventional light.

The campaign website, www.stahl-explorers.com, not only features background information on LED technology and the latest news on lighting solutions, but also a series of action-packed short clips showing luminaire operation in truly extreme conditions.

Smart Wiring Application: the name reveals what’s behind the new software – greatly simplifying the entire control cabinet wiring process. Eplan

is presenting this new solution at the Hannover Messe. Whether it’s the source/target description, terminal point handling, cross sections, colour, wire length, end procedures or exact cable routing: the software provides a visualisation and the necessary wiring information and engineering data for mounting assembly within the control cabinet.

The advantage: the schematic-based wiring – a time-consuming, error-prone process requiring a great deal of know-how – is no longer required. The Smart Wiring Application’s digital representation refers to the virtual model’s 3D-layout in Eplan Pro Panel. Yet the new application can be utilised to enhance productivity even without a 3D-layout.

As an example, Excel lists with all the required connection information can be read into the program; the 3D visualisation of the routing pathways and assembly steps cannot be provided – however, the step-by-step execution as well as the comparison of various connection lists for last-minute changes remain available. Workers have clear information at all times about how far along the wiring process is as a whole, what still remains to be wired, which potentially necessary changes they must make and how to make them. The Smart Wiring Application will be available with the release of Eplan Platform 2.6 in September 2016.

System-guided applicationA clearly designed menu describes every single connec-tion. This information is augmented with the equipment visualisation, including terminal points and the planned cable routing for the wires within the control cabinet. The software further provides information about the required wire diameter, the colour to be used and the defined

Smart Wiring Application: The Smart Wiring Application provides step-by-step instructions for the panel shop based on engineering data.

Wiring a control cabinet requires a lot of time and expertise, however Eplan is making the process much easier: the Smart Wiring Application will be presented at the Hannover Messe. The software visualises the wiring and provides the necessary production data 100 per cent digitally. The ad-vantage: knowledge of the control technology is plugged into the system in the future. Users benefit from substantial timesavings for last-minute changes because the software also handles the often complex task of project comparison.

terminal point handling – crimped or ultrasonic welding, for instance. Bundle affiliation is also exactly shown, which, taken together, means that every connection as well as every working step are clearly understandable and transparent. As soon as a connection is completely wired, it’s shown in traffic-light-principle green. This is tremendously helpful if several shifts are necessary to complete the work: colleagues can start wiring exactly where their predecessors left off.

Fast process for last-minute changesThe Smart Wiring Application really demonstrates its strength with last-minute changes to the project, which are simply registered in Eplan Pro Panel and then updated. Through the Smart Wiring Application, the two project statuses are compared to one another and the software documents all the differences, saving enormous amounts of time as compared to doing this manually. The software shows all the obsolete connections, those which have already been wired but must be removed, and which additional connections are required. This means that the times when wirers had to search and think about how the changes affect the entire wiring and manufactur-ing process have come to an end.

BackgroundUp to 43 per cent of the working time required to manufacture a control cabinet is consumed by the wiring (depending on its specific application). This process

is extremely time-consuming and requires enormous specialist knowledge. What must be connected by wire, , and how can the required wires be optimally routed? These control-technology questions usually must be answered by using the schematics, which provide the basis for the cabinet’s wiring. As a result, highly qualified specialists pore over hundred of circuit diagrams and, page for page, work through the wiring for assembly and installation, the realisation of which may not always be unambiguous in every case. The Smart Wiring Applica-tion means that the time saved can be used more productively.

Advantages of the Smart Wiring Application

• Integrated workflow from customer requirements through engineering to manufacturing and testing

• 100% digital data• Wiring without schematics• Perfect visualisation• Step-for-step directions for the worker • Project comparison for last-minute changes• Logging of wiring status• Better scalability of workloads

A quick and easy way to realize IIoT The basic prerequisite for Industrial IoT is that industrial applications are able to communicate with IT systems. However, the operational technology (OT) on the factory floor uses fieldbus and industrial Ethernet networks, which are designed for real-time communication – by default separated from the IT-infrastructure. The Anybus .NET gateways address this situation by acting as translators which send and receive data between PROFIBUS- or PROFINET-networks and IT platforms using .NET as a framework. The communication is set up in a couple of minutes and the .NET gateways are therefore a very fast way to realize IIoT.

The result is that IT systems get unprecedented access to real-time data from the factory floor which enables predictive maintenance, KPI-follow-up, machine analytics, data mining, big data processing, production statistics and much more – without interfering with the industrial processes.

The solution can be used for a wide range of use cases, from simple transfer of KPI values, advanced messages with structured data types, or ultra-fast transfer of I/O data for “big data.”

How it worksIn addition to connecting the data from the industrial processes to the IT-systems, the .NET gateways make the data understandable on the IT-side. The information exchange between the Operational Technology (OT) side and the Information Technology (IT) side is defined in a spreadsheet template which defines how the data is mapped, tagged and presented to IT-applications. The

HMS Industrial Networks now introduces yet another gateway family for the Industrial Internet of Things. The new Anybus .NET gateways enable real-time data from industrial machinery to be presented to .NET-based IT applications. This means that .NET programmers can get data directly from a PLC system on the other side of “the edge” to be used in applications for statistics, analysis or maintenance. The first .NET gateways are available for PROFIBUS and PROFINET.

Easy for both .NET and PLC programmers“The Anybus .NET gateways represent a very fast and easy way to realize the Industrial Internet of Things,” says Markus Bladh, Product Manager at HMS Industrial Networks. “For more than 20 years, HMS has been offering industrial communication solutions between different standards on the factory floor, and we now use this experience to offer a gateway to .NET. This is truly an ‘edge gateway’ in the sense that it creates a bridge between the IT and OT side – .NET programmers get access to data from industrial machinery, while PLC programmers can rest assured that the data access does not interfere with their critical systems.”

“LDS will revolutionise the armed forces” says Dr David Crouch, Global Product Manager for Military & Civil Defence at Scott Safety. “It’s lightweight, portable yet extremely powerful. In independent validation trials, the system decontaminated anthrax by 99.9999999 percent from a 100m³ space, in less than five minutes.”

The LDS utilises new Scott Safety atomisation technology to create a fine mist to ensure even and consistent coverage and haptic dry surfaces. Rapidly projecting these droplets in the form of a dense and turbulent mist that reaches all airborne and surface threats simultaneously the system is capable of delivering CBRN decontaminants to all non-line of sight surfaces. This process drastically reduces both the chemical footprint and time required for effective decontamination. Unlike many traditional decontamination systems that utilise liquids, this new process forces powders to behave like a gas, ensuring that sensitive and electronic equipment is not damaged.

Environmentally friendly and cost-efficient, LDS typically requires only five percent of decontaminant compared to traditional systems due to the gas-like behaviour of the small droplet mist. Easily directed and controlled with a lance, the system achieves a projection distance of up to 30 metres and is compatible with a range of chemistries.

A new portable airborne and surface decontamination solution from Scott Safety is achieving a military first – decontamination of chemical, biological and radiological vapours, liquids and particles simultaneously in as little as five minutes. A manufacturer of respiratory protection for the UK MoD, Scott Safety has been at the forefront of CBRN defence and civil protection for over 80 years.

Jungheinrich is market-launching a new narrow-aisle forklift – its EKX 514-516 electric order picker and trilateral forklift – in short, a “combi” (combination)

stacker. With a payload capacity of 1,600 kilograms and a lift height of 17.5 metres, the new model will be officially unveiled before a global trade audience at the LogiMAT 2016 exhibition in Stuttgart (hall 9, stand 9B02 and 9B04).

Efficient and Economical, with Just One Battery for Two Shifts The truck is equipped with state-of-the-art control technology, completely new motor technology and an efficient energy management system. Its intelligent lightweight design makes use of high-strength steels, resulting in a weight reduction of 150 kilograms. “This means we can guarantee the efficient and economical operation of the stacker over two shifts with a single battery charge,” states Dr Klaus-Dieter Rosenbach, Jungheinrich Board of Management member in charge of Logistics Systems Business.

For two-shift operations this eliminates not only the need for extra batteries, but also for charging stations and other expensive equipment, while at the same time reducing manpower requirements. Rosenbach continues: “This is not a mere promise of two-shift operation without changing the battery – we also back up this claim vis-à-vis the customer.” In other words, if a battery fails to hold a charge for two full shifts, Jungheinrich will replace it free of charge.

Two-shift operation with a single battery / New synchronous reluctance motor / Lower energy consumption, thanks to intelligent lightweight design / Vibration damping system results in enhanced performance and safety on uneven floors.

Economical Motors: 93 Percent of Energy Converted into OutputCompletely new motor technology developed by Jungheinrich is at the core of the EKX 514-516. This consists of a synchronous reluctance motor which has been used for the first time in this vehicle – a motor which combines the high performance and energy efficiency of synchronous motors with the cost advantages and low maintenance requirements of three-phase AC asynchronous motors.

According to Rosenbach the motor’s efficiency factor of IE31 is the highest achievable in forklift operations. The new motor technology converts around 93 percent of the energy consumed into actual output, cutting energy losses by half. “This means that energy consumption has been reduced by a further 15 percent compared to the previous model,” remarks Rosenbach. “And this, despite the vehicle’s much higher performance,” he adds.

Reaching Great Heights Smoothly and Safely, Thanks to Vibration DampingFor the first time Jungheinrich is also equipping this model series with a patented vibration damping system. The optional Floor Pro module reduces lateral oscillations of the mast and driver’s cab which are caused by uneven floors or other floor types not designed for narrow-aisle forklifts. “This system provides the user with the opportunity to travel more smoothly and up to 30 percent faster on substandard surfaces,” explains Rosenbach. In addition the system is

easy on loads and vehicle and helps reduce the level of maintenance. The goal is to allow narrow-aisle trucks to work safely and efficiently even on floors that were originally designed solely for reach trucks – even at lift heights of 10 metres.

The new EKX 514-516 is fitted with a number of different modules for process integration, including RFID technology, redundant height and distance measurement and the Jungheinrich Logistics Interface. If the optional Jungheinrich warehouse navigation system with semi-automatic target approach is added, throughput can be enhanced by up to 25 percent. Dr Rosenbach concludes: “By combining intelligent assistance systems with high-performance synchronous reluctance motors, Jungheinrich has made great strides in further optimising energy efficiency – putting us in great shape to meet the future challenges of Intralogistics 4.0.”

ISIS is a world-leading materials research centre which produces beams of neutrons and muons that can delve into the complexity of matter using a suite of beamline

instruments, which gives unique insights into the properties of materials on the atomic scale.

A series of three adjacent overhead cranes span the width of one of the two large ISIS experimental halls onsite that allow access to the various beam defining equipment areas. However as the building’s capabilities were expanded to accommodate additional instruments, some of the new beam defining equipment areas were located in a ‘cranage dead zone’ which the existing overhead cranes couldn’t reach.

Pelloby were asked to come up with a lifting solution to give ISIS and the various research teams at the complex, suitable craneage access to these dead zone areas - the aim being to lift beamline instrument components, shielding and other materials in and out of the restricted crane access areas.

Working closely with STFC engineers, our designers set to work and the result was an inverted travelling jib crane which can traverse the length of the building along a 53 metre gantry support rail system, while also providing continuous 360 degree access in a five metre radius thanks to a powered rotating jib arm. This innovative modified travelling jib crane can support loads of up to five tonnes thanks to a Verlinde VT2 Eurobloc hoist.

As the crane needed to access awkward spaces, operators had to be able to carefully navigate it around obstacles such as building stanchions and existing machinery. It is therefore operated via an easy-to-use handheld radio control system which governs the longitudinal travelling motion, the jib arm rotation and the movement of the electrically powered short headroom Verlinde wire rope hoist. Anti-clash sensors were fitted to the jib arm, which means the system automatically

NORD CHINA HAS WON “2015 INNOVATIVE PRODUCT AWARD” OF DRIVE INDUSTRY

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS manufactures long-time corrosion-resistant drives by means of the nsd tupH sealed surface conversion system, which ensures

economic and effective corrosion protection, since this protection is also unaffected by blows or scratches.

The drives are tested and proven in applications with a maritime atmosphere. In demanding atmospheres, nsd tupH drives reliably perform much beyond the usual service life of paint-coated systems. Their resilience and prolonged service life significantly reduces the service and maintenance requirements placed on customers.

In addition, the treatment ensures high process safety: since no coating is applied, but the surface itself is hardened, there can be no pollution of products or process media, as is often the case for instance with chipping paint. Even heavy impacts or scratches do not diminish the corrosion resistance. nsd tupH is approved for food applications according to FDA Title 21 CFR 175.300, and is available for all aluminum-enclosed drive systems –four gearbox families, smooth-surface motors, and distributed drive electronic control units.

Nord has long been active around the world and has a history of 50 years as a manufacturer of drive technology. In China, the company has developed steadily for more than 10 years. All NORD components, including gears, motors, and drive electronics with intelligent functions are developed and produced in.house. NORD supplies complete drive solutions in more than 100 industries. In the future, Nord will actively introduce more advanced technology from Germany to China, so as to promote the comprehensive development of China's intelligent drive solutions.
