CAMPMEETING 2013 Meet the New District Superintendent
On April 22, 2013 Dr. Glen Gardner waselected to be the new District Superintendentof the Eastern Michigan District. In June, Dr.Stephen Anthony, who has retired, handedover the reigns of the EMD to Dr.Gardner. I sat down with Dr. Gard-
ner recently and got to know him a little better.A down to earth man with a great sense of humor was my firstimpression, and as we spoke I also saw humility in this man of God, who loves the Lord and strives to do His will. He grew upin southern Illinois in a restaurant ran by his parents. He wassaved at 15 at a youth camp and received his call to ministry thenext year at the same camp. He attended Olivet Nazarene Uni-versity and went on to graduate from MidAmerica NazareneUniversity in 1977. He received an honorary Doctorate of Di-vinity Degree from Olivet in 2010 and earned his masters from
Nazarene theological seminary in may. He is on the Board of
Trustees for both Olivet and NTS. Glen has previously served atchurches in Missouri, Texas, New England, and Florida. He hasserved as the senior pastor at Flint Central Church of the Naza-rene for the past nine years.
Glen and his wife Kayla met at Olivet. They have been marriedfor 38 years and have two children, Kelsey Hendrix and BlakeGardner. They also have two grandchildren, Gardner who is 2,and Gideon born this year on June 29th. When I asked Glenwhat one of the greatest things God has done in his life was, heanswered Kayla; she has been an amazing partner in life
I asked Dr. Gardner about his visions and plans for the future of the EMD and he replied that he would like to put energy into
planting ethnic churches; Hispanic, Asian and Arabic. When Iasked him what was the one thing he most wanted the people of the EMD to know about him he replied. I love the Lord, and Iwould covet their prayers.
I propose we do just that and pray both for our new leaders andfor the future of our district as we move into this new adventuretogether.
