1.6 Immunity Performance Criteria

The test results shall be classified in terms of the loss of function or degradation of performance of the equipment under test, relative to a performance level defined by its manufacturer or the requestor of the test, or agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser of the product. Definition related to the performance level:

based on the used product standard based on the declaration of the manufacturer, requestor or purchaser

Criterion for continuous phenomena according to EN 301 489-1:

Transmitter (CT) Receiver (CR)

If no further details are given in the relevant part of ETSI EN 301 489 series dealing with the particular type of radio equipment, the following general performance criteria for continuous phenomena shall apply. During and after the test, the equipment shall continue to operate as intended. No degradation of performance or loss of function is allowed below a permissible performance level specified by the manufacturer when the equipment is used as intended. In some cases this permissible performance level may be replaced by a permissible loss of performance. During the test the EUT shall not unintentionally transmit or change its actual operating state and stored data. If the minimum performance level or the permissible performance loss is not specified by the manufacturer, then either of these may be deduced from the product description and documentation and what the user may reasonably expect from the equipment if used as intended.

Criterion for transient phenomena according to EN 301 489-1:

If no further details are given in the relevant part of ETSI EN 301 489 series [i.13] dealing with the particular type of radio equipment, the following general performance criteria for transient phenomena shall apply. For surges applied to symmetrically operated wired network ports intended to be connected directly to outdoor lines the following criteria applies:

For products with only one symmetrical port intended for connection to outdoor lines, loss of function is allowed, provided the function is self-recoverable, or can be restored by the operation of the controls by the user in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. A SW reboot is not allowed. Information stored in non-volatile memory, or protected by a battery backup, shall not be lost.

For products with more than one symmetrical port intended for connection to outdoor lines, loss of function on the port under test is allowed, provided the function is self-recoverable. A SW reboot is not allowed. Information stored in non-volatile memory, or protected by a battery backup, shall not be lost.

For all other ports the following applies:

After the test, the equipment shall continue to operate as intended. No degradation of performance or loss of function is allowed below a permissible performance level specified by the manufacturer, when the equipment is used as intended. In some cases this permissible performance level may be replaced by a permissible loss of performance.

During the EMC exposure to an electromagnetic phenomenon, a degradation of performance is, however, allowed. No change of the actual mode of operation (e.g. unintended transmission) or stored data is allowed.

If the minimum performance level or the permissible performance loss is not specified by the manufacturer, then either of these may be deduced from the product description and documentation and what the user may reasonably expect from the equipment if used as intended.

For a voltage dip the following performance criteria apply:

for transmitters the performance criteria for transient phenomena for transmitter shall apply (see clause 6 of the relevant part of ETSI EN 301 489 series dealing with the particular type of radio equipment)

for receivers the performance criteria for transient phenomena for receiver shall apply (see clause 6 of the relevant part of ETSI EN 301 489 series dealing with the particular type of radio equipment)

for ancillary equipment the pass/failure criteria supplied by the manufacturer (see clause 6.4) shall apply, unless the ancillary equipment is tested in connection with a receiver or transmitter in which case the corresponding performance criteria above shall apply

For a voltage interruption the following performance criteria apply:

in the case where the equipment is fitted with or connected to a battery back-up, the performance criteria for transient phenomena for transmitters or for receivers shall apply (see clause 6 of the relevant part of ETSI EN 301 489 series dealing with the particular type of radio equipment)

in the case where the equipment is powered solely from the AC mains supply (without the use of a parallel battery back-up) volatile user data may have been lost and if applicable the communication link need not to be maintained and lost functions should be recoverable by user or operator

no unintentional responses shall occur at the end of the test

in the event of loss of function(s) or in the event of loss of user stored data, this fact shall be recorded in the test report

for ancillary equipment the pass/failure criteria supplied by the manufacturer (see clause 6.4) shall apply, unless the ancillary equipment is tested in connection with a receiver or transmitter in which case the corresponding performance criteria above shall apply

General criteria according to EN 301 489-19: The EUT, for all immunity tests according to the present document, except the spot frequency test of the immunity test with radiated RF electromagnetic fields, shall be assessed for: - the storage of messages in the memory of the EUT at the start of the test - unintentional responses of the EUT during the test - the maintenance of the EUT memory assessed at the conclusion of the test - the ability to receive and store messages at the conclusion of the test

For the spot frequency test of the immunity test with radiated RF electromagnetic fields the EUT shall be assessed by monitoring the accuracy of the call received alert signal Criteria for continuous phenomena applied to receivers according to EN 301 489-19: For the EUT: - the general performance criteria - during the test no false calls shall occur - at the conclusion of the test comprising the series of individual exposures, the EUT shall operate

as intended with no loss of function and/or stored data (messages), as declared by the manufacturer.

For the spot frequency test of the immunity test with radiated RF electromagnetic fields the EUT shall be assessed by monitoring the accuracy of the call received alert signal Criteria for transient phenomena applied to receivers according to EN 301 489-19: For the EUT: - the general performance criteria - during the test no false calls shall occur - at the conclusion of the test comprising the series of individual exposures, the EUT shall operate

Criterion for continuous phenomena according to EN 301 489-52 GSM and DCS: The establishment and maintenance of a communications link, the assessment of RXQUAL, and the assessment of the audio breakthrough by monitoring the speech output signal level, are used as performance criteria to ensure that all primary functions of the transmitter and receiver are evaluated during the immunity tests. In addition, the test shall also be performed in idle mode to ensure the transmitter does not unintentionally operate.

Mode Acceptable level of performance

Transmitter (CT) A communication link shall be established at the start of the test, and maintained during the test. During the test, the uplink speech output level shall be at least 35 dB less than the previously recorded reference levels, when measured through an audio band pass filter of width 200 Hz, centred on 1 kHz (audio breakthrough check). At the conclusion of the test, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, and the communication link shall have been maintained. In addition to confirming the above performance during a call, the test shall also be performed in idle mode, and the transmitter shall not unintentionally operate.

Receiver (CR) A communications link shall be established at the start of the test. During the test, the RXQUAL of the downlink shall not exceed the value of three, measured during each individual exposure in the test sequence. During the test, the downlink speech output level shall be at least 35 dB less than the previously recorded reference levels, when measured through an audio band pass filter of width 200 Hz, centred on 1 kHz (audio breakthrough check). At the conclusion of the test, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, and the communication link shall have been maintained.

Criterion for transient phenomena according to EN 301 489-52 GSM and DCS:

Mode Acceptable level of performance

Transmitter (TT) A communications link shall be established at the start of the test. At the conclusion of each exposure the EUT shall operate with no user noticeable loss of the communication link. At the conclusion of the total test comprising the series of individual exposures, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, as declared by the manufacturer, and the communication link shall have been maintained. In addition to confirming the above performance during a call, the test shall also be performed in idle mode, and the transmitter shall not unintentionally operate.

Receiver (TR) A communications link shall be established at the start of the test. At the conclusion of each exposure the EUT shall operate with no user noticeable loss of the communication link. At the conclusion of the total test comprising the series of individual exposures, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, as declared by the manufacturer, and the communication link shall have been maintained.

Criterion for continuous phenomena according to EN 301 489-52 CDMA Direct Spread (UTRA and E-UTRA): The maintenance of a communications link shall be assessed by using an indicator, which may be part of the test system or the equipment under test. In addition, the test shall also be performed in idle mode to ensure the transmitter does not unintentionally operate.

Acceptable level of performance

A communication link shall be established at the start of the test, and maintained during the test. In the speech mode, the performance criteria shall be that the Up Link and Down Link speech output levels shall be at least 35 dB less than the recorded reference levels, when measured through an audio band pass filter of width 200 Hz, centred on 1 kHz. At the conclusion of the test, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, and the communication link shall have been maintained. In addition to confirming the above performance in traffic mode, the test shall be performed in idle mode, and the transmitter shall not unintentionally operate. UTRA:

In the data transfer mode, the performance criteria can be one of the following:

if the BER (as referred in ETSI TS 134 109 [4]) is used, it shall not exceed 0,001 during the test sequence;

if the BLER (as referred in ETSI TS 134 109 [4]) is used, it shall not exceed 0,01 during the test sequence. The BLER calculation shall be based on evaluating the CRC on each transport block. E-UTRA:

In the data transfer mode, the performance criteria shall be that the throughput shall be ≥ 95 % of the maximum throughput of the reference measurement channel as specified in annex C in ETSI TS 136 101 [9] with parameters specified in tables 7.3.1-1 and 7.3.1-2 in ETSI TS 136 101 [9] during the test sequence.

Criterion for transient phenomena according to EN 301 489-52 CDMA Direct Spread (UTRA and E-UTRA):
