T he Williams property is a 300 acre parcel of hardwoods, evergreens, ponds and fields that were donated to the people of Shapleigh by Roger K. Williams. The Town accepted the gift at a special Town Meeting held on November 19th, 2011 by unanimous vote. It is Mr. Williams wish that the property be maintained in its current condition. At the annual Shapleigh Town Meeting in March of 2012, the citizens of Shapleigh voted to form an Advisory Committee to ad- vise the Board of Selectmen on the best way to use, maintain and conserve the property. The Committee consists of members knowl- edgeable in road maintenance and drainage, forestry and conservation as well as members who know Mr. Williams. The property is open to the public and is accessed from both County Rd and Gulf Rd. It is open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic only. There are gravel roads that offer excellent hiking to the many rocky overlooks. At one point the road is very steep leading up to a fire tower (not open to the public). Anyone with suggestions or ideas should contact one of the Committee members. Donations will also be accepted to help with the cost of maintaining this precious gift. The Williams property is a 300 acre parcel of hardwoods, evergreens, ponds and fi elds that were donated to the people of Shapleigh by Roger K. Williams.
