Young children delight in the world around them. As naturally eager learners, they want to explore that world, express themselves, and connect with others. At the same time, schools and districts are looking for ways to help these children learn while embracing exciting 21st-century technology so they can be better prepared for kindergarten and beyond.

To meet these children where they are, and to support the schools and districts that help them, Fuel Education’s content partner, K12, recently introduced an innovative one-year program for children ages 3–5. This award-winning program combines engaging interactive online lessons with hands-on learning materials, activities, and high-quality children’s literature. Flexible enough for classroom settings, school and district learning centers, and other pre-K environments, the EmbarK12 program fully prepares children for kindergarten with skills and capabilities as de ned by leading standards organizations.

A FLEXIBLE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH ORGANIZED AROUND “THEMES”

– 18 thematic units: contain topics relevant to young children, such as “Family and Friends,” “My Five Senses,” and “Looking at Animals.” Units may be presented in full or in part to complement a program already in use.

The EmbarK12 program has 18 thematic units containing topics relevant to young children.

Using appealing images and symbols, the “Weather and Calendar” theme explores this topic throughout EmbarK12’s six core subjects.

– 6 subjects covered in each thematic unit: language arts, math, science, social studies, art, and music.

– 4–6 modules in each subject: each 40-minute module includes several activities, both o ine and online. Activities with and without teacher involvement can be adapted for a variety of settings: large groups, small groups, pairs of students, or one-to-one with a student and teacher.

– Over 430 modules: contain more than 1,200 activities.

– Customizable implementation: Thematic units may be presented in full or in part to complement a program already in use.

RESEARCH-BASED AND ALIGNED TO STANDARDS

– Established industry research: The EmbarK12 program is based on reports from the National Research Council, American Psychological Association, National Reading Panel, National Math Panel, American Educational Research Association, and recent ndings of cognitive scientists.

– Circle Time activities: To begin each day, friendly, online, interactive Circle Time activities help introduce each instructional module using simple rhymes, patterns, songs, nger plays, and more.

– I Am Special booklet: Throughout the thematic units, children draw and write about themselves in this original printed booklet.

– Children’s literature: Each thematic unit includes well-known children’s books to anchor the content, such as The Little Engine That Could and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

– Music, songs, and videos: Many activities include music selections and videos to keep children active and engaged while providing multi-sensory learning opportunities.

The teacher’s guide for the “Looking at Animals” theme provides learning objectives, activity guidelines, helpful tips, and more.

EASY-TO-USE TOOLS TO PLAN, INSTRUCT, AND ASSESS

– Teacher guides: Online and printed guides accompany all 18 thematic units and include objectives for all modules, activity guidelines, and teaching tips.
