Emancipation Proclamation:By Jimmy PAN 2014
What is the Emancipation Proclamation?
The Emancipation Proclamation was basically an announcement or order from
the president to free the slaves in the American Civil War. On the issued day of
the Emancipation Proclamation, all the slaves that were in the ten states that were still in rebellion with the union would be
forever freed. The Emancipation Proclamation did not free all the slaves
immediately but only freed the slaves in the Confederate States that were not under Union control. Eventually the
proclamation set millions of slaves free.
Who introduced the Emancipation Proclamation?
The Emancipation Proclamation was a presidential proclamation that was
introduced by Abraham Lincoln who was the current president of America at the time. Lincoln had strong morals of slavery as he says “If slavery were
not wrong, nothing was wrong” which is why he created the
Emancipation Proclamation to abolish slavery.
When was the Emancipation Proclamation introduced?
The Emancipation Proclamation was introduced and took effect on the 1st of January, 1863. However the Preliminary Proclamation which would
order the emancipation of all slaves in any state was issued on the 22nd of September, 1862. Abraham Lincoln wanted to wait until 1863 which was a major victory of the American Civil War so that people would not see the Emancipation Proclamation being issued early as an act of desperation or
retreat in the purposes of the Civil War.
How was the Emancipation Proclamation introduced?
The idea of an Emancipation Proclamation was introduced to
Lincoln by abolitionists and radical Republicans who pressured him to
issue the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln approved
but postponed it because he believed he needed more support from the American public to allow the Emancipation to be successful.
Was the Emancipation Proclamation useful?
The Emancipation Proclamation was useful as it freed millions of slaves and abolished slavery in the United States. It also opened a path for the
African-Americans to fight for their freedom, which is why the Emancipation Proclamation was useful towards the community.
