ELSA BARCELONA MOOT COURT COMPETITION
Moot Court Competition
A Moot court is an extracurricular activity at many law schools in which participants
take part in simulated court proceedings, involving drafting memorials or
memoranda and participating in oral argumentation. Its aim is to connect the
theory and the practice while practicing legal discussions between law students in
front of a jury.
This type of competition is known
worldwide as the best preparatory
exercise that students and future jurists
can have. It allows these to acquire legal
knowledge, as well as to prepare and
instruct them so that they can develop
properly and successfully in the courts,
practice gestures, public speaking, It
gives them confidence and intellectual
agility. Within the academic trajectory of
future jurists, we find few events that
strengthen such skills which are so crucial
for their professional life.

ELSA Moot Court Competitions
ELSA occupies a prominent position in the organization of Moot Courts
Competitions at national, international and local levels. Among the most popular
MCC, we can find:
EHRMCC: The ELSA Human Rights Moot Court Competition simulates the
procedure for the European Court of Human Rights, and it is organized in
collaboration with the Council of Europe in the Court of Strasbourg.
John H. Jackson MCC: It is one of the most prestigious and well-known
global MCCs. It simulates the procedure before the World Trade
Organization (WTO) and in collaboration with it. Currently, in the
organizing committee, the former vice president of MCC UPF, Mireia
Mas, forms part of it as Assistant in Regional Rounds.
ESMCC: ELSA Spain Moot Court Competition is the national competition
organized by ELSA-Spain, the last edition was based on Competition Law
and was in collaboration with the firm Uría Menéndez .
EBMCC: The First Edition of the ELSA Barcelona Moot Court Competition
was held in collaboration with the multinational law firm Baker McKenzie
during the 2017/2018 academic year and dealt with a trademark law
dispute.
Our project: EBMCC
El ELSA Barcelona Moot Court Competition, hereinafter 'EBMCC', was born with the
aim of offering law students from different universities the opportunity to practice
and extend their legal knowledge, as well as to
encourage their professional and personal
development. These objectives are achievable with the
style of competition described in the previous point
and, in addition, this promotes teamwork and is, for
many students a first contact with the work of the
lawyer.

añadido preparatorio del EBMCC
4 ELSA BARCELONA MOOT COURT COMPETITION
During the 2017/2018 academic year, the first EBMCC was held in cooperation with Baker McKenzie. In this, various teams from different universities competed in a dispute over a trademark law issue, where, as part of their preparation, they attended a course on legal oratory. During the 1st and 2nd of March of 2018 the
semifinal and final of the competition were
held at the headquarters of Baker McKenzie in
Barcelona. 5 teams competed in the oral
phase before recognized professionals from
the sector. Finally, given the great work of the
semifinalist and finalist teams, they were
rewarded with an invitation to attend the
conference on The future of the legal
profession, held by the law firm.
Structure of the competition
The EBMCC 2018/2019 will be a competition in which the participants, will be given a fictitious case. The teams, will prepare, expose and assume the legal defense of the same, presenting written and oral arguments in the exercise of the role in question - having to do both defendants and plaintiffs. It will be held in collaboration with the support of the international firm Baker McKenzie. Specifically, the competition will simulate a contentious procedure for a dispute in relation to trademark law. The teams will be evaluated at first according to the briefs of demand and answer to the application sent to the Court. The top 8 teams will compete against each other, assuming the defense of the two litigating parties in the semi-final and final rounds. • Participants: The contest will be open to all students of Universities, Faculties, Affiliated Centers or academic institutions in Catalonia that include academic, undergraduate or graduate programs, of Law or in which the Law is part of the program. • Teams: Formed by a minimum of 2 students up to a maximum of 4. • Judges: The quality standards of the competition require an impartial Court with extensive knowledge on the matter, so professionals in the field will form it.
