Message from the Exalted Ruler:
I would like to start the new Lodge year off by congratulating the sixty‐four new members that I have initiated this year and welcome them to our Lodge and the greatest charitable organization in the world. I hope that you will continue to live by the oath you swore to uphold; charity, justice, brotherly love and fidelity, and become a better person within yourselves. We have lots in store for this Lodge year with plenty of activities and new menu items. As most of you are well aware, the price of everything is going up and we have not raised prices at the Lodge in over two years. For us to keep our house in order, it
is inevitable that we must increase some of our prices. For example, when you purchase a beer or cocktail in the Lounge, our price includes the six percent sales tax and also includes the three percent liquor tax. Last year we absorbed over ten thousand dollars in taxes from the bar alone. I, as well as everyone else, loves a great deal and you will still be getting your food and drinks for a good price. So please don’t let some change deter you from patronizing your Lodge and thanks in advance for your continued support. I would like to thank all the volunteers for helping to make the Pig, Bull and Oyster Roast a great success. “Special thanks to Terry Williams Sr for making that awesome homemade potato salad”. Another big thanks to Carol Riggins and Kim Blades for chairing the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt and the Ladies of the Elks for their modest donation supporting it. I am pleased to say that I submitted the paperwork to the Grand Lodge for a Beacon Grant and I am proud to say we were granted $2,000.00. These funds will be used for a military veterans seminar with a free brunch and job fair set for later this year; more info will follow when everything is put into place. We will also be hosting again this year the Faces of Valor Car, Truck and Bike Show on Saturday, June 27 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm to raise funds for a wounded warrior. If you missed it last year, don’t miss it this year. Please come out and show your spirit and support of our troops and veterans!! It was my pleasure on Thursday night, March 12th, in presenting Holly Prinz of Edgewater, on behalf of her young daughter, Angel, who is suffering from an extreme medical condition, a check from the Maryland, Delaware and District of Columbia William J. Jernick Memorial Fund for $2000.00 to ease the financial stress because of Angel’s health situation. This was made possible by the work of our Loyal Knight Pat Boarman. Thank you for seeing a need in our community and taking action and getting this done. This is what Elkdom is all about! Hopefully by the end of April Trustee Chris Woods will have all of our T.V.s integrated so we will be able to show all of our Lodge present or upcoming events on screen and remove all the flyers on walls around the Lodge. Be safe and enjoy this Spring weather.
Fraternally, Mark A. Walp

April 2015 THINK DUES !!!!!!!!
Now that winter is slipping away, and we can once again enjoy the expectations of spring my message will be brief this month due to the rush on Membership Cards. Just think if everyone had paid dues on time I would have been able to dazzle you with brilliance or at least baffle you with many words of wisdom, a/k/a B.S. but beings that things are going as usual and over 350 Members dues are still unpaid at the time of this writing, guess I’ll just shut up & get back to work.
To All Members Who Have Not Paid Your Dues Yet !! You are Delinquent So Please Send Your Check Now. Remember you each received a Dues Renewal Notice, By First Class Mail in February, So please return it with your check ASAP.
Just a Friendly Reminder, you must have a paid up members card, to participate in any of the lodge activities, or use any of the lodge facilities, so if one of the Officers or House Committee members requests to see your card, please do not feel offended, as they are only doing the job that is required of them.
Before signing off let me give a tip of the hat to PDD Stan Grzymski, & PDD Wayne Droll, who have been work‐ing diligently to help me get your new member cards to you in a timely manner. As you know with approximately 1030 members it is quite a chore to get all of the dues cards delivered on time, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them, as they have faithfully given of their time to get your new member card out to you!
I also would like to advise that once again, due to Grand Lodge reinstating the procedure for issuing spouse I.D. cards, that these cards will once again be issued with the Members card, and if a Spouse key card is requested, please check the appropriate box on the dues renewal form, and include an additional $5.00 Any Widow wishing to have a I.D. card, should make a separate request for same, and mail it to the Secretaries Office, together with a fee of $5.00 (if a key card is requested) and a self addressed stamped envelope, and your I.D. cards will then be issued as quickly as possible, after the bulk of Member Cards have been issued.
Fraternally, Earl W. Schellman, PDD/PSP/PGLC Secretary
