Screen Design

• Consistency

• Common backgrounds

• Common graphics (icons etc)

• Consider text colors

• Avoid over-complex images

• Either very light, or very dark. NOT BOTH

Backgrounds

Fonts

• Color must coordinate with background

• Use simple fonts

• AVOID SILLY FONTS!.

• Not too much on one screen

• Use consistent wording

• Use brief wording

• Include a title slide

• Graphics should complement text, match screen’s theme.

Language and Content

Bulleted Text

• Bulleted items: no more than 7

• Words: no more that 7 per item

• Levels: no more than 7

• Text: no smaller than 24 points

The eye is attracted to:

• Bright elements

• Graphics (before text)

• Color (before monochrome)

• Dark areas (before light)

• Large elements

• Unusual shapes

Clip Art and Drawing Objects

• Keep to a minimum

• Size appropriately

• Use clip art that relates to content
