Elementary Kids Club June 2016

Kids Club is an environment designed to complement the primary large group/small group kids experience. Kids Club also allows parents to participate in serving, small groups and other Sunday morning opportunities. K5th graders who stay for two consecutive services may join Kids Club. The goal of Kids Club is to:

Allow kids to review the main concepts they learned in large group/small group. Give kids opportunities to practice Bible Skills and learn memory verses Provide many different types of service experiences for kids

Create opportunities for social growth as kids have fun together

Each month kids will experience four or five different themed weeks that will repeat from month to month. Curriculum provided for each week will be enough for 3040 minutes of content. Themes will be as follows:

Week 1 Serve Each month kids will have an opportunity to serve others as directed by their leaders. They may write notes of encouragement, prepare gift bags, go on prayer walks, etc. There also may be campus specific projects to join. Week 2Grow Kids will practice Bible skills, and have a short discipleship moment followed by discussion/application time Week 3Challenge Kids will demonstrate recall of scripture and Bible skills in several contest challenges. Campus leaders may choose to offer localized incentives for accomplishments. Week 4Create Kids will create a fun craft from a prepackaged kit that will also provide opportunities for discussion and review. Week 5Party During months where there is a fifth week, kids will celebrate with a themed party (when appropriate). Kids can celebrate what they learned during the month, play fun party games, watch fun movies and eat snacks.

Also, campus leaders will provide materials for localized freetime “stations.” Kids Club leaders should limit each child’s time at these stations and encourage kids to rotate between freetime opportunities. Ideas for Freetime stations: Board games, video games, crafts, four square, etc.

Suggested Schedule 10 minutes—Kids arrive and begin rotation stations or free play 3040 minutes—Weekly curriculum activities 20 minutes—Directed rotation stations 5 minutes—Dismissal

Week 1: Serve (June 5th) Main Point: I Will Tell Others About Jesus Everywhere I Go! Bible Story: Saul and Barnabas in Antioch (Acts 11:1926, 13:14) Memory Verse: “And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8b (NLT)

Prepare: Read the Bible story and be ready to help kids review it. This week’s service project will be for our parents/guardians. We will pray specifically for them, their relationship with Christ, their relationship with each other, and with the kids. We will also make cards for them to let them know that we appreciate them, and that we are praying for them. Please ask your children’s minister about any specifics that they may want to add for your campus.

Materials: Prayer station cards, cardstock, markers, colored pencils, stickers, and other cardmaking supplies.

Activity 1: Review (35 minutes) 1. Ask kids “What was today’s main point?” See if they can demonstrate the motions. 2. Ask kids to retell the Bible story. Help them fill in the blanks 3. See if kids can already recite the verse from memory. Repeat the verse several times

with them aloud. Tell kids that on week 3 (Challenge Week) they can win challenges for memorizing the verse!

Activity 2: Prayer Stations (10 minutes)

1. Say, “This week we are going to pray specifically for our parents/guardians partner up and pray at stations. It is important to pray for your parents/guardians as God has given them an important job of raising you. We want God to lead them, and bless them for doing what He has asked them to do. They pray for you and it is equally important to prayer for them.”

2. Ask, “Do you know that your parents need prayer too? Do you know that the Bible tells parents/guardians to discipline you? Is it hard when you get in trouble for not obeying? Do you know that it can be hard for parents/guardians to to discipline you? Share with them some verses that give instruction to parents (Proverbs 13:24) “Those who spare the rod of discipline hates their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.” Hebrews 12:11 this verse refers to God’s discipline but can apply to parental discipline as well. “No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way”

Page 3: Elementary Kids Club June 2016 - Rock Bridge …rockbridge.cc/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/KidsClubJune2016.pdf · Elementary Kids Club June 2016 ... Give kids opportunities to practice

3. Pair kids up and give them a slip that has a specific area to pray for their parents/guardians. Encourage the kids to pray aloud with their partner. (make prayer cards with specifics, praying for the Holy Spirit to guide their parents, praying for God to give wisdom to their parent, praying for blessings for their parents, praying for their parents relationship with God, praying for their parents relationship with each other, praying for their relationship with the kids.)

4. Close this activity by praying aloud. Ask God to help kids remember that they can pray all the time and He will listen!

Activity 3: Parent Appreciation Cards (15 minutes)

1. Ask each child to make a card for their parents/guardians. Thanking them for parenting, thanking them for something specific that their parents say/do for them.

2. Say, “Parents/guardians were given a great responsibility by God to raise you and teach you how to live and to take care of you. We are going to write them a card to say thank you and let them know we prayed for them today.

3. Pass out supplies and allow kids time to make a card. Encourage them to write respectful, appropriate thoughts in their cards. Help those who need help with writing, and help them to think about and write unique specific things. I.e. “I prayed that God would bless you and I’s relationship.” “Thank you for loving me even when I do something wrong” etc.

Activity 4: Rotation Stations (20 minutes)

1. Allow kids to split up into predetermined rotation stations. If possible, choose 3 different activities (ex. Two board games, one coloring activity OR one board game, 4 square on the floor, leftover crafts) to offer variety.

2. If necessary, encourage kids to rotate between stations until pickup. 3. As parents pick up their kids, be sure to check their claim stickers. Encourage kids to

repeat the Bible verse and main point to parents as they arrive!

The video is a short summary of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. People from all over came to worship Jesus and praise him during the passover with palm branches. During the passover Jesus tells His disciples that one of them would betray Him, and turn him over to the Romans. Jesus explains the passover representing His body, and His blood. He was the sacrificial lamb to save us, so that we can be with God again.)

2. Review questions (make it interesting by splitting your kids into 2 groups and having them write down their answers)

a. Who is the main focus of the Gospels? (The life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus)

b. Why did God send Jesus? (To rescue us, to bridge the gap between us and God because of sin.

f. What did Jesus tell his disciples before he went back to be with the God in Heaven? (He gave them the great commission, to go and tell people about Him to the ends of the earth.

g. Did Jesus just mean for his disciples to do the great commission? (No, He meant that anyone who chooses to follow Him should go out and tell more and more people about Jesus, and how they can have salvation through Christ.)

Activity 3: Bible Skills—Books of the New Testament (New Testament Pyramid)

1. Encourage kids that learning about God’s word is just as important as learning how to use it and we will be doing BOTH this year during our GROW and Challenge weeks.

2. Play New Testament Pyramid Game: The New Testament Pyramid Gather and Prepare: 27 plastic disposable drinking cups (two sets in different colors) Permanent Marker Print on separate drinking cups the books of the New Testament (two sets) Play: Allow individuals or teams to build the New Testament Pyramid by finding Matthew and lining up

the cups through 1 Corinthians. Place 2 Corinthians on the second level between Matthew and mark. Continue stacking the New Testament Pyramid topping the pyramid with the “New Testament” cup.

Allow two individuals or teams to complete the pyramid first and accurately. Play as many times as time allows.

Page 6: Elementary Kids Club June 2016 - Rock Bridge …rockbridge.cc/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/KidsClubJune2016.pdf · Elementary Kids Club June 2016 ... Give kids opportunities to practice

Activity 4: Memory Verse Review 1. Say, “It is important to memorize scripture. In Matthew chapter 4, the Bible talks about

when Jesus was in the desert and being tempted by satan. He fought satan, and his temptations, with scripture. We can also fight satan and the temptations that we face with scripture that we have memorized. That is why it is important. So we’re going to work on memorizing our Bible verse now.”

2. Play ‘balloon verse burst’ Bible Verse Burst Write your entire memory verse onto balloons and pin or tape them to the board. After teaching the entire verse and saying it together; pop one of the balloons with a push pin and have the kids repeat the verse, including the missing word (you repeat it with them, but shush on the blank). Continue to pop one balloon at a time until they can recite the entire verse.

Activity 5: Rotation Stations (20 minutes)

1. Allow kids to split up into predetermined rotation stations. If possible, choose 3 different activities (ex. Two board games, one coloring activity OR one board game, 4 square on the floor, leftover crafts) to offer variety.

2. If necessary, encourage kids to rotate between stations until pickup

Page 7: Elementary Kids Club June 2016 - Rock Bridge …rockbridge.cc/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/KidsClubJune2016.pdf · Elementary Kids Club June 2016 ... Give kids opportunities to practice

3. As parents pick up their kids, be sure to check their claim stickers. Encourage kids to repeat the Bible verse and main point to parents as they arrive!

Week 3: Challenge (June 19th) Main Point: I Will Help Others To Learn Bible Story: Paul Confronts Elymas (Acts 13:412) Memory Verse: “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given and you will receive even more.” Mark 4:24b (NLT)

Challenge is a special week where kids will compete to show their knowledge of scripture, how to use their Bible and Bible trivia. Please consult your children’s minister about how to carry this out. You could divide into teams and award team points for challenge victories. The winning team would win the big prize at the end (the losing team a lesser prize). You could also allow kids to accumulate points individually and earn their own rewards. Prepare: Talk with your children’s minister about your plan to provide incentives for Challenge week and make sure you have all the supplies you need. You may also need to print the verses on large sheets of paper as a helpful reference as kids memorize.

Materials: 2 sets of the pizza pan with sections of the New Testament; 2 buckets of clothespins with the books of the New Testament; memory verse written as mostly blank lines on a chalkboard, white board, or large sheet of paper;

Activity 1: Review (35 minutes)

1. Ask kids “What was today’s main point?” See if they can demonstrate the motions. 2. Ask kids to retell the Bible story. Help them fill in the blanks 3. Ask kids to recite the verse from memory. Use your reward system to praise those that

have memorized the verse. Remind kids that each month they can win challenges for memorizing this verse and verses from previous weeks!

Challenge Game #1—Books of the Bible Relay

1. Divide your kids into 2 teams. 2. Say, “On this pizza pan, you see the five sections of the New Testament, and on each

clothespin, one of the 27 books of the New Testament is written. For this challenge, you will come and get a clothespin from this bucket, then race over and clip it on the side of the pan for where it belongs. For example, “Matthew” will go on the “Gospels” section. The first team to complete ALL 27 books of the New Testament wins!”

3. Allow kids to play and congratulate the winning team.

Option 2: Books of the Bible Relay with the New Testament Cup Pyramid game. “Let’s see which team can stack the new testament books in order in a pyramid the fastest, and correct.”

Challenge Game #2— White Board Dash: Acts 1:8b "And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8b (NLT)

1. Divide kids into 2 teams. Give each team the memory verse with mostly blank lines

written on a chalkboard, white board, or large sheet of paper, and placed at a distance from the starting line. To play, teams form a line and one at a time, team members run to fill in a blank from the verse. They run back and the next team member runs up to add another word. The game continues until one team completes the memory verse.

2. Say, “In this relay race, you will be filling out the memory verse – one word at a time. Line up, and using your pen as a “baton,” each person will come fill in a word. The first team to finish their verse correctly wins!”

Challenge Game #3— Ping Pong (Psalm 71:5)—This game can be played in pairs or in teams with the children facing each other in a line. A child calls out the first word of a verse, then another calls back the second word, and so forth.

Challenge Game #4— Verse Relay (Mark 4:24b)—Divide the children into two teams. Place a chalkboard, white board, or large sheet of paper at a distance from the starting line. Hand the first child of each team a writing instrument, and on the shout of “Go” have him run to the writing surface and write the first word of the verse. Then have him return to his team and hand the writing instrument to the second person. The team that finishes writing the verse correctly first wins. Challenge Game #5— Balloon Verse Burst (2 Timothy 4:5b) Write the words of the verse on small slips of paper. Put them inside the balloons and blow the balloons up. Let the kids race to pop the balloons and put the verse in the correct order.

Memory Verse Challenge—Now that kids have had a chance to practice and learn verses give them time to recite the verses to a leader. Award points for each verse they can recall from memory. Week 1: "And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8b (NLT) Week 2: “O Lord, you alone are my hope.” Psalm 71:5
