Background and guidelines

Background

• Demographic study by RSP cited• Overall enrollment decrease by over 500 students over the next five years at

elementary (-4.6%)

• Building level challenges at the elementary level for Brookdale, Brooks and Peterson

• Board policy 7:30 states “will review the boundary lines as needed and recommend any changes to the School Board.”

Guidelines for recommended changes

• Minimize disruption for students

• Reassign areas of new growth based upon demographic study

• No changes to students’ middle and high schools

Next Steps

• Seek Board approval on Dec 11, 2017

• Notify families with attendance area adjustments • Students entering 5th grade will be allowed attendance exemptions to remain

at previous school if parents provide transportation

• Hold Open Houses to welcome new elementary families in Jan/Feb at new schools

• Look at staffing impact in March/April
