• Select the ‘Write Entry’ tab (top left)

• Enter the headline in the ‘Title’ field

• Enter the text into the ‘Body’ field

• Enter some descriptive Tags into the Tag field (it is in your interest to reuse an existing tag wherever possible), i.e. processor, Honeycomb, Android, Google… (readers will be able to filter the blog posts on the basis of these tags)

• In the ‘Publishing’ section (top right), set ‘Status’ to ‘Publish’ and set the date and time when the post should be live (set ‘Status to ‘Scheduled’ if a future date is involved, to pre-post an entry)

• In the ‘Categories’ section choose an existing category or add a new one (readers will be able to filter the blog posts on the basis of these categories).

• Select the ‘Preview’ button (bottom left) to preview the post without publishing it

• Select the ‘Save’ button (bottom left) to save changes, and publish the post (if ‘Status’ has been set to ‘Publish’)

If this happens…

What could possibly go wrong? Well, here are possible solutions to some small issues that you may hit…

• The post goes live straightaway despite being pre-dated – The Status field (in the Publishing section, top right) must be set to Scheduled, rather than Published for pre-dating to work.

• The formatting of the text looks all wrong – Be careful not to past directly from Word into the blogging window. It is best to paste the contents into a text editor, like Notepad, and copy it from there into Moveable Type. This will strip away any rogue formatting.

• The picture I inserted is in the wrong place – When inserting a picture don’t miss the intermediate stage where you can specify the picture is left or right aligned. Generally it is best to add the text first and then insert a picture, specifying left or right, as shown in the picture on the left. (Check the tick-box ‘Remember these settings’ once you are happy with a regular regime.)
