Security Issues with the Pulse Experience
Introduction
It is every nightclub manager’s dream to see men and women waiting outside just to
catch a glimpse of the nightclub scene. Most issues facing nightclubs are mostly centered on
security and the security of patrons. We have an increasing amount of young adults who bring
outside conflicts and jealousies into the club that will eventually erupt into violence. But the
most common problem of security is the numerous accounts of inebriated individuals who
become loud and obnoxious, for any number of reasons.
Furthermore, every nightclub manager’s first priority needs to be security and customer
satisfaction. If customers do not feel safe in a nightclub, they will most likely not attend the
nightclub thus reducing income. If a customer feels safe and welcome, despite past occurrences,
they will most likely come back, which is in fact the “lifeblood of any club” (McGoey). When
patrons of a club return and bring friends, that is what makes the club fuel.
Main Body
Most security personnel need to identify a potential problem as soon as the problem is
made public. Whether this be as they are entering the club, or during hours within the facility. It
is best to make sure that safety is number one on the list of priorities, in front of entertainment.
He also wrote on to say, “Many of these bouncers have little experience and receive no real
training. In a crisis, inexperienced bouncers will be forced to rely on their own common sense
and physical instincts to solve a problem. This is a scary concept” (McGoey). He stated in
practical terms that people, such as bouncers and security personnel have no actual experience
Garretson 2
and are forced to rely upon pure instincts and their own good judgment. For most overly-sized
people, this could be very bad because chances are, these people have very short tempers and no
self control because they do not worry about the consequences. The best idea for security would
be to make sure and train security and bouncers for proper patron control. The best way to
control a patron is to simply control them, not abuse them or harm them in a physical way. The
“rule of thumb is one floorman for each anticipated fifty to seventy-five (50-75) patrons,
depending on the "security history" of the establishment” (Witherspoon). Because our
establishment is brand new, we need to plan for one floorman for every 40 patrons. This will
further increase our security and therefore, safety of the customers.
Companies such as Nightclub Security Consultants do exactly what their name implies,
they do consulting for large nightclubs and guarantee that they can reduce violence and any
possible insurance policies. A consulting company would be preferable due to the high amount
of experience these consulting companies have and therefore they usually have a higher success
rate.
Conclusion
In conclusion, proper training for bouncers and floor personnel is required and needed in
the business of nightclubs. Without proper training of floor personnel, the nightclub would be in
total chaos and problems would arise at every corner and minute of operation. So without the
needed training, we would be out of business

MEMO
To: Employees and Clients of The Pulse Experience From: Ethan Bettes, Assistant Manager and CofounderDate: 24 March 2009 Subject: Notification of upcoming DJ opportunity
I am writing to inform you of my intention to hire DJ Flava Fresh for the first full week of May.
He is a new young gun for the recording industry and has been involved in the production of many songs for artists such as Akon, Fergie, Lil Wayne, and Mariah Carey. He has recently informed me that he would greatly enjoy the opportunity to display his skills and get his name out as a DJ by performing at Pulse.
I feel that we should definitely take hold of this opportunity and let him work the upcoming week in May. The date is tentative, and I would like to hear what you, our clients, think concerning his ability and a possible scheduling commitment.
Once again, thank you for your support.

First of all, make sure that the customer understands that
you can solve all of their needs. Reach out to the customers and ensure they are having the best experience. Greet everybody as they entire the dance fl oor/bar area. If a customer has a com-plaint, make sure to try and re-solve it on the spot if you can. If you can not solve it by yourself without endangering yourself or the customer, please call management and they will handle any and all problems. Occasionally it is ok to bend the rules if a cus-
tomer is getting out of hand, but be sure to use good judgement. All of the customers should be taken under the assumption that they are intoxicated of some degree and therefore careful delicacy is need-ed to ensure correct treatment of customers. Lastly try and take note on the customers who you know have been coming in often and take note to behavior to try and relate to them, the more we reach
out to them, the better they will think of our establishment and hopefully will return.

An email reply must answer all questions and pre empt An email reply must answer all questions, and pre‐empt further questions – If you do not answer all the questions in the original email, you will receive further e‐mails regarding the unanswered questions, which will not only waste your q y ytime and your customer’s time but also cause considerable frustration. Moreover, if you are able to pre‐empt relevant questions, your customer will be grateful and impressed with your efficient and thoughtful customer service with your efficient and thoughtful customer service. Imagine for instance that a customer sends you an email asking which credit cards you accept. Instead of just listing the credit card types, you can guess that their next question yp , y g qwill be about how they can order, so you also include some order information and a URL to your order page. Customers will definitely appreciate this.
3. Use proper spelling, grammar 3. Use proper spelling, grammar & punctuation.
Thi i l i b i This is not only important because improper spelling, grammar and punctuation give a bad impression of your company it is also impression of your company, it is also important for conveying the message properly E‐mails with no full stops or properly. E‐mails with no full stops or commas are difficult to read and can sometimes even change the meaning of the sometimes even change the meaning of the text. And, if your program has a spell checking option, why not use it?g p , y

When you reply to an email you must include the original When you reply to an email, you must include the original mail in your reply, in other words click 'Reply', instead of 'New Mail'. Some people say that you must remove the previous message since this has already been sent and is p g ytherefore unnecessary. However, I could not agree less. If you receive many emails you obviously cannot remember each individual email. This means that a 'thread less email' will not provide enough information and you will have to will not provide enough information and you will have to spend a frustratingly long time to find out the context of the email in order to deal with it. Leaving the thread might take a fraction longer in download time, but it will save the g ,recipient much more time and frustration in looking for the related emails in their inbox!
8. Read the email before you 8. Read the email before you send it.
A l f l d ' b h d il A lot of people don't bother to read an email before they send it out, as can be seen from the many spelling and grammar mistakes the many spelling and grammar mistakes contained in emails. The same goes for emoticons, such as the smiley :‐). If you for emoticons, such as the smiley : ). If you are not sure whether your recipient knows what it means, it is better not to use it.,

T k i f Try to keep your sentences to a maximum of 15‐20 words. Email is meant to be a quick medium and requires a different kind of medium and requires a different kind of writing than letters. Also take care not to send emails that are too long If a person send emails that are too long. If a person receives an email that looks like a dissertation, chances are that they will not dissertation, chances are that they will not even attempt to read it!
13. Don't send or forward emails containing offensive, or racist comments
By sending or even just forwarding one libelous, or offensive remark in an email, you and your company can face court cases resulting in multi‐illi d ll ltimillion dollar penalties.

The same goes for chain letters that promise incredible riches or ask your help for a charitable y pcause. Even if the content seems to be bona fide, the senders are usually not. Since it is impossible to find out whether a chain letter is real or not, ,the best place for it is the recycle bin.

March 6, 2009 Jacob McCaw 1313 NW Saul Rd. Lee’s Summit, MO, 64085 Dear Mr. Jacob McCaw: On March 5th, I bought a buffet at your location in Lee’s Summit, MO, and your buffet caused me quite an issue.
Unfortunately, your Chinese Chicken Stir Fry was not adequate because I found a hair in the buffet bin. I am disappointed because your food not only caused me personal anguish and henceforth I felt that your establishment is not sanitary. I spoke to the manager on duty about my issue, and although he issued an apology, I am not satisfied that enough was done to resolve my complaint.
To resolve the problem, I would appreciate a refund of the price of my dinner that evening. Once the hair was found, I was unable to finish eating or to enjoy my dining experience. Enclosed is a copy of my receipt.
In addition to the refund, I hope that you will examine your sanitation practices so that this does not happen again in the future. Please contact me at the below address or by phone at (697) 584‐9485.

March 5, 2009 Ms. Carolina Davis 5200 Roselawn Avenue Topeka, KS 67218 Dear Ms. Davis, Your presentation at the Kentwood Business Club was one of the most enjoyable our club has ever had. It is always a pleasure to have a professional like you speak on ways a graduate can seek a job. The follow‐up question‐and‐answer period as well as your handouts well received. On the advice of our teacher, our accounting class has decided that one way we can follow up your presentation is to bring to class employment ads, and then write letters of application. Already the class has prepared twelve letters, which were sent to our teacher as the employer; thirteen more are all ready to be signed. I believe this is one of the most interesting projects I have ever been assigned. Members of the class have learned to critique the letters without feeling self‐conscious about their work. Would you consider reviewing some of our letters and advise us which you think best? We hope you will say, “Yes!” I will call you next Monday to discuss the details.
