Introduction

We, Sir John A., Introduce to you ‘The Fugitive’. This robot was conceived and produced by our robotics team’s two portions, ‘Strategy’, and ‘Power Train’.

Strategy

This year we were presented with a challenge that our strategy team was very eager to solve. A 6’ 3” goal box with increased point value along with

increased challenge.

Strategy

This challenge was This challenge was met by creating amet by creating a6’3” jack. From the 6’3” jack. From the start this was our start this was our goal and idea, but goal and idea, but having it work in having it work in theory and practice theory and practice are two different are two different things.things.

Strategy

As loosely As loosely depicted here, our depicted here, our first idea was to first idea was to raise raise the jack using a the jack using a threaded rod. threaded rod.

Strategy

But unfortunately, as But unfortunately, as things happen, our idea things happen, our idea wasn’t going to work. The wasn’t going to work. The rods we had for the idea rods we had for the idea wouldn’t bring the jack up wouldn’t bring the jack up fast enough with the servo fast enough with the servo we were using, and we we were using, and we couldn’t get a rod couldn’t get a rod threaded the way we threaded the way we needed it.needed it.

Strategy

Our new Idea was to place A servo on afixed end of the jack (where depicted),and have the other end on closet door sliders, so it could move.

Strategy

Now that we had figured out how to get the Now that we had figured out how to get the balls up to the 6’3” goal, there left but one balls up to the 6’3” goal, there left but one more problem, how do we get the balls into more problem, how do we get the balls into our jack? What will we use to pick-up balls?our jack? What will we use to pick-up balls? At the same time that half the strategy team At the same time that half the strategy team was working on the jack the other half was was working on the jack the other half was busy creating an arm.busy creating an arm.

Strategy

Almost from the start Almost from the start what we were going to what we were going to use for our arm was use for our arm was obvious. The only real obvious. The only real misconception was the misconception was the high of the Power high of the Power Train and the actual Train and the actual size of the arm. size of the arm.

Strategy

The actual workings of The actual workings of the arm is simple. The the arm is simple. The servo is attached to a servo is attached to a threaded rod with a nut threaded rod with a nut on it. The servo turns on it. The servo turns the rod which turns thethe rod which turns thenut back and forth.nut back and forth.

Strategy

The nut has a L shaped piece of metal weldedThe nut has a L shaped piece of metal welded onto it. This opens and closes scissors-like Pieces onto it. This opens and closes scissors-like Pieces of metal that are directly attached to two Fingers of metal that are directly attached to two Fingers in the shape of hoops that will fit around a ball.in the shape of hoops that will fit around a ball.

Strategy

After the arm’s After the arm’s recalculation and recalculation and construction it was construction it was mounted wheremounted whereoriginally planned originally planned and pulled up and and pulled up and down with a servo down with a servo and pulley system.and pulley system.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this year with our excellent team In conclusion, this year with our excellent team and robot we believe that we will achieve and robot we believe that we will achieve victory on the ‘Mounds Of Menace’ over our victory on the ‘Mounds Of Menace’ over our Opponents. We have a team that works well Opponents. We have a team that works well Together and knows ‘The Fugitive’ very well.Together and knows ‘The Fugitive’ very well.
