Beginning Task:
Trade Science Fair Assignment #4 with your partner
Use the Peer Review Form to provide feedback to your partner describing how they can improve their procedure.
Return Peer Review Form and Rough Draft to your partnerREAD THEIR FEEDBACK ask questions if you have them
(15 minutes)
Entry Task:
What is electricity?
How does a light switch turn the lights on and off?
What is Electricity? Electrons Moving
Let there be LIGHT!
Use the materials provided to light up the bulb.
What did you have to do to light the bulb?
Simple Circuit• Source of electrical
potential
• Conductive path
• An object that uses electricity to do work (a resistor)
Let there be LIGHT, LIGHT!
Can you light more than one bulb with the same battery?
One Way
In “Series”- Several components
one after the other
- Connected so an individual charge will pass through each component.
Another Way
In “Parallel”
- Again, several components- Connected so that a single
charge will pass through only one of the components
Build both circuits and compare
How does the brightness of the bulbs compare?
What happens when one bulb “breaks” (unscrew or use “faulty bulb”)
Tollbooth Analogy
Tollbooth Analogy
In series, electrons must move through two tollbooths • Slows progress (more resistance)• If one closes, no cars move through the other either (charge cannot
flow)
In parallel, electrons move through just one tollbooth & have choices!
• Speeds progress (less resistance)• If one closes, cars move through the other (charge still flows)
