IN ORDER to commem-orate the centenary of the end of the 1914-1918 World War and those who lost their lives during it, Ferryhill Town Coun-cil has purchased and installed a silhouette of a World War One ‘Tommy’
soldier to stand proudly in the Town Hall gardens.
Funding to cover the cost of purchasing the silhouette was secured through the Small Grants Funds of the Town’s County Councillors, Peter Atkinson, Brian Avery and
Joe Makepeace. Accordingly, Ferryhill
Town Council would like to say a huge thank you to all three Councillors for contributing towards this project.

HOUSEHOLDS ACROSS County Durham are being asked to check if the voter information for their home is correct.
As part of Durham County Council’s annual canvass, households will soon receive a letter asking them to confirm the information currently held on the electoral reg-ister.
David Collingwood, Dur-ham County Council’s electoral services man-ager, said: “It is important to respond to the request for information, even if there has been no change to the details, as other-wise people may be lost from the register and be unable to vote in future local and national elec-tions.”
Confirming details is quick and simple – and being registered to vote can help to improve a per-son’s credit rating.
If all of the information on the form is correct people can: Visit www.householdresponse.com and enter part 1 and part 2 of the security code printed on the form.

CHILTON GALANEW VENUE A GREAT SUCCESS
CHILTON GALA went ahead on Saturday 28th July, tanks to Chilton Town Council allowing the use of the Charlie Wayman Playing Fields. This year the Gala was opened by Chilton’s Mayor, Cllr Tonya Duprey and Gala Princess, Emma Clark.
The Gala Committee would like to thank everyone who took part, as well as sponsors Chilton Town Council, Durham County Councillor, Christine Potts, Veola Power Station, Hydram, Denham Printing and Chilton Litter Pickers.

Chilton Academy Friends at Chilton GalaOn Saturday 27th July we joined other hardy fundraisers and set up a gazebo in the rain at the Chilton Gala which was this year held on the Charlie Wayman Playing Fields. It was a slow start to the morning but once the sun made an appearance, albeit with gusty winds, more and more people came along to support us. Once again we held our “Find the Queen of Hearts” competition which was won by Maggie Hastie of Croxdale. For the children, who love coming along to see our school link teacher Mrs Berry, we held a “Match the Sock” competition which earned them a prize every time. We raised £119.50 so Thank You to everyone who supported us. We would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you and well done to Lyn Jones and the Gala Committee for all their hard work in organising the Chilton Gala each year. Whenever obstacles are put in their way - this year’s were having to find a change in venue, other events taking place in the area and the change in the weather - they didn’t let the hurdles stop them and instead ploughed on to bring the Chilton Community together for a fun day and help charities raise much needed money.

“We simply love doing it as a team. Dressing up and being able to run through fire! I mean how often can you dress as a Minion and run over hot fire!”
Muddy Mayhem started in 2012 as a 2.5km course, but has since grown into a unique, challenging and fun event that leaves competitors breathing hard and smiling harder.
In 2017 hundreds of peo-ple turned up at the park to battle the icy waters and imposing tunnels and this year it’s expected there will be even more.
Cllr Ossie Johnson, Cabinet member for tour-ism, culture, leisure, and rural affairs, said: “Muddy
Mayhem is always a pop-ular event and it’s great to hear about people taking part year after year.
“The course has grown substantially over the past seven years and promises to be both testing and fun, making it a great day out.
“Places are filling up fast, with some waves already sold out so I’d rec-ommend anyone thinking about taking part to sign up quickly.”
The event, which is for those aged 16 and over, is scheduled to begin at 10am with the runners setting off in waves every twenty minutes until 2pm.
Registration for the 5k course costs £43 and the 10k course costs £48.

Muddy Mayhem, organ-ised by Durham County Council, is back for its seventh year on Sunday 30th September. Play-ing host to the thrilling obstacle course is once again Hardwick Park, Sedgefield.
The 5km circuit features elements of horse trials, motocross, rock climbing, military obstacle courses and adventure play-grounds and incorporates over 40 man-made and natural obstacles.
There is also an option to go around the course twice and complete a 10km run.

in association with Pro-tech City, which securely removes all council data and licences before fully testing the equipment and installing Windows 10 and Microsoft Office software.
Durham Community Association is one of a number of charities that have already purchased equipment through the scheme.
David Lindley, the asso-ciation’s centre manager, said: “We host and run a range of events, clubs and groups that support the local community.
“By providing access to low cost, reliable equip-ment, this scheme is help-ing the association to run more effectively than we could with our old out-dated computer.
“It is now so much eas-ier to manage our admin-istration and accounts, and to complete anything over the internet.
“I’d definitely encour-age other County Durham charities to see how they could benefit.”
In order to be eligible to purchase items, char-ities must use the equip-ment to help residents get online by providing free internet access or prove how it will be used to improve residents’ skill-sets.
It may also be used to enable the charity to work more efficiently.
Cllr Joy Allen, Cabinet member for transforma-tion, said: “Access to a computer can help chari-ties to operate more effi-ciently, while for mem-bers of the communities they serve it offers the opportunity to learn val-uable new digital skills, search and apply for jobs, access a variety of public services and simply stay in touch with others.
“I am delighted we’re able to play our part in such a worthwhile scheme, which not only benefits charities but also the residents they sup-port.”

REGISTERED CHARITIES in County Durham are being offered low-cost laptops and PCs as part of a council-run recycling scheme.
The Digital Durham Reboot initiative sees IT equipment owned by Durham County Council refurbished and made available to registered charities in the area.
As well as helping char-ities operate more effi-ciently, the scheme aims to support them in their work to help people get online and improve their skills.

PEOPLE ARE being encouraged to help shape the future of their county before the consultation on the County Durham Plan closes at the end of the week (3rd August).
The consultation is seeking people’s views on the ‘Preferred Option’ stage of the plan, which sets out potential devel-opment across the county until 2035.
The County Durham Plan provides a vision for future housing, jobs and the environment as well as the transport, schools and healthcare to support it.
Since the consultation began a number of events have been carried out across County Durham but people can still find out about the plan and comment online at www.durham.gov.uk/future until 4:30pm on Friday, 3rd August.
Cllr Carl Marshall, Cab-inet member for eco-nomic regeneration, said: “The response so far has been brilliant and we’ve received comments and suggestions from right across the county.
“But we’d urge any-one who has yet to get

“The County Durham Plan will shape our coun-ty’s future so it’s incred-ibly important that as many people as possible take part in this consulta-tion.”
The Preferred Option of the County Durham Plan is based on evidence about the county along-side opportunities and challenges identified by residents and businesses during the previous con-sultation.
Once the current con-sultation is completed, the responses will be used to create the next draft of the plan, known as the Pre-Submission Draft.
The public will then get the chance to comment on the proposals again before that plan, and any further comments, are submitted to an inde-pendent examiner who will decide whether the plan can be adopted.

The club is open to all ages and levels and equipment is provided.
Refreshments will be served at the open day and membership offers will also be available on the day.
At the Open Day, junior and adult coaching will take place from 2pm-4pm with free hit sessions available from 4pm-6pm.

TENNIS IS COMING TO CHILTON
Chilton & Sedgefield Tennis Club is open to players of all ages and abilities.
tennis coaching every week throughout the summer holidays for both adults and juniors from three years upwards.
The coaching runs from Tuesday to Sunday weekly and consists of a mixture of coaching, social and matchplay.
