Lucy Gillis offers Electric Dreams a selection from her LucidDream Exchange. This month she has picked out a selection ofpeople's *first* lucid dreams. Put on your hats of amazement andtake the journey.

"Go Get a Picture and Gather Some Dreamers..." Linda Magallóncontinues her excerpts from "How to Fly." This month she looks atthe clues we have in our dreams that will allow us to both get abigger picture of the puzzle of dream life and to enter intoactive participation during the dreaming itself, such as inbringing about flying dreams. Get your oneiric magnifying glassesand start your search for "Consistent Clues"

Jean Campbell continues to be a key player in 21st Century dreamactivism and this month has an update from the most active onlineproject, the World Dreams Peace Bridge. In "A View from theBridge" Jean describes current projects and how you canparticipate. There is also information about the websiteworlddreamspeacebridge.org

Nick Cumbo is back with some changes in the Dream of PeaceNetwork. The network explores the role of dreams in bringingabout a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, andis dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into theculture of our communities. As a result of these changes, They nowhave a new forum for dream interpretation and general dreamsdiscussion called the ‘Fishbowl’, and the renaming of the ‘EarthDreamers’ forum to the intriguing title, ‘Sea Life.’ Theirdiscussions and mutual dreaming experiments are leading them tobig events in 2012. Read all about it in "Dreampeace: The EarthNeeds Dreamers" and "Research: Dreaming Our Way to 2012."

Ed Bonapartian is sharing an article with us that he previouslyhad printed in a local magazine called _Spiral_. in "Saying our

There has been a major surge of interest recently in studyingconsciousness as more and more people have experiences that cannotbe explained by traditional scientific approaches. At some point inhistory, a split occurred and we ended up with Science andReligion. Science limited its study to the material world and theChurch took charge of the metaphysical realms. Now, with sciencestudying consciousness, we are ready to reintegrate Spiritualityand Science.

An Excerpt From the Lucid Dream Exchange

By Lucy Gillis

o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o

Here is a selection of lucid dreams from our readers - their firstlucids for 2003.

KatieLucid Fire WarningJanuary 2 2003

I dreamt I was at my parent's house in New York, sleeping on thebasement floor. My mother came down and was puttering aroundtalking to me. I was annoyed that she was disturbing me when Ididn't have to get up yet. I thought it seemed odd to me that ifshe was up and around I didn't have to be yet.

She's wearing white slacks and that tan and white striped cottonshirt she used to have. I think I get up for a minute then go backto "bed". She asks me questions like, "Why haven't you washedthat?" referring to the muddy throw rug I'm sleeping on and, "Isthat my green sheet?" I say crossly, "Stop asking me rhetoricalquestions when I'm trying to sleep!" Looking at the motleyassortment of bathmats and throw rugs and scraps that I'm using asa bed, she says sadly, "I wanted so much more for you." I want totell her it's perfectly comfortable. She goes about her work and Isettle down to sleep. Then I realize I already *am* asleep andthat this is a lucid dream. For a moment I think, I'm lucid, whatshould I do? Should I do something sexual?" but what I really wantto do is continue this dream. I say to my mother, "Mom, I'mdreaming."

She understands what I mean and says thoughtfully, "You know, Ihad a dream last night about you. I dreamt that Jacoby Hall caught

Page 10: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

fire and the library burned down." (I consider telling her thatthese are two separate buildings but don't want to interrupt.) Shesays she went back to the office for some paperwork she had to do-referring here to her school campus, not mine.

I say, "Would you do something?""Tell another person my dream?" she asks.I'm surprised she's thought of this. "That too, but write it down.I've never had a dream come true like that... well, sort of..." Itrail off, thinking that I've had a lot of precognitive detailscome true. She considers, "Who knows? With a holy dream like that."I'm startled by her use of the word "holy", I didn't realize thatshe considered the dream to be of divine origin. She says, "I want you to do something for me. Unhook your dryer at3 o'clock on Wednesday.""3 o'clock on Wednesday?""3 o'clock on Wednesday.""My time or yours?""Yours.""By unhook the dryer you mean unplug?""Well, you know." She makes vague gestures with her hands. Shesays something about "Your father and your brother may also be atrisk," which I take to mean the dream may be about them and notme.

Even as I'm having this dream I'm surprised at how clear it is,the stability of the lucidity, and the absolute clarity of myawareness and thinking. Not all the details are right - early inthe dream my mother behaves differently than my real mother would(nor would I be sleeping on the basement floor for that matter). At the end of the dream I see the phone and the wall plate is adifferent color than the phone, which doesn't strike me asincongruous. But the quality of my thinking is as clear as waking.

Karl B.January 8 2003

I go down the hall to Roger's office and work at a cubicle. Rogerfalls asleep. I get up to leave, and I suddenly realize I'mdreaming. I go to the wall. I realize that since this is a dream,

Page 11: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

there might be a secret door in the wall. The wall swings open, and I go into a passageway filled with bright light. But I wind upback in the office. I guess I'm supposed to be here. Now my bodybegins to faint, although I'm still conscious and lucid. My bodyfalls backward, but very slowly and gently. I lie on the floor, unable to move, and I gradually lose lucidity.

Rich StammlerJanuary 26 2003

Sandi and I are trying to get somewhere when we come upon a pond,or a stream that had a pond in it. I am aware there are fish inthe stream and pond. (Water in my dreams always represents theunconscious or inner reality; fish represent inner ideas andgoals. I have had past dreams where I pick up Japanese brown carpas large as puppy dogs and hold them over my arm while strokingthem. I have also offered to share the fish with other members ofthe family and some have refused to hold them.)

I see the water level is at our eye level but is totallytransparent. There are fish in the stream and, at one point in thedream, we see fish, not swimming but moving along at about eyelevel. The fish have large bodies like ornamental goldfish andtail fins that equal or double the length of the body. The fishare at eye level and are iridescent. The tail fins are totallytranslucent with small color patches that are translucent but atthe same time very bright colors. The fish are colorful, transparent, and stunningly beautiful, magical.

Then Sandi and I are carrying some boxes with files, trying to gosomewhere. We end up in this field and I am aware of people on theperiphery who are hunting or something like that. I get thefeeling they are what is pejoratively called rednecks orhillbillies. I didn't want them to see us, but they come directlytoward us. They are upset we are there as if we are trespassing.

I then look down while one of them is yelling irately and I see afemale with her feet not touching the ground, levitating. (Ibecame lucid at that point but it is not what I think of as fulllucidity. I'm beginning to realize that there are many shades oflucidity.) I tell Sandi "It's OK. We don't have to worry aboutthem, they are dream characters." They then disappear.

Page 12: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

We continue to where we have to go. I talk about the best way tolaunch, to fly astraly, to make the trip faster, and Don, acolleague from work appears. [Don is a very conservative, traditional southern gentleman.] There was weather here for thefirst time and dirt and kind of a cliff on the other side. I tellDon that what I need to do is jump off the cliff and then we willfly.

Consistent Clues Go Get a Picture and Gather Some Dreamers...

©2003 Linda Lane Magallón(Excerpted from “How To Fly”)

o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o

We've seen that a dream can look like its counterpart event in thewaking world, but it doesn't have to. And it's not likely to.Although the obvious visual reproductions are easy to spot, therearen't very many of them. What about all the variations and

Page 13: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

transformations? Are they just jumbled data, a bit of this with apeck of that, forming a new recipe that has no relationshipwhatsoever to the fruits of the waking state? Do we merelyclassify dreams as "delirious" when they contain elementsseemingly inconsistent with physical reality? Well, believe it ornot, even the wildest sleep-time fantasy might be a response towaking life. Good thing, too. We can use the information gleanedfrom wake-inspired nocturnal productions to help incubate flyingdreams. Despite obvious differences, certain correspondingelements tend to stay the same. I call them "Consistent Clues."

New Tools For The Treasure Hunt

The "Clues" actually have a fairly long history. Although therewere attempts to compare dreams and material reality as far backat the Classical Greek period, researchers weren't very methodicaluntil the late 1800's. The researchers began the comparisonprocess with an already-produced dream, that is, a report of adream after it had happened. Then they attempted to link the dreamelsewhen, such as a portent of things to come, or backward, to thedistant or recent past.

This approach is, at best, a game of speculation. Sometimes thespeculation can be pretty wild! Which of the kabillion littleevents or aspects of your physical life might the dream talkingabout? And don't forget all the events that "happen" to you whileyou are watching TV or day-dreaming about Tolkien's Middle Earth.Sometimes dream theorists throw up their hands and declare thatdreams have *nothing* to do with waking life. Or if they do, it'sa crap shoot. I'd rather the theorists put their hands down andstart counting the Clues.

To discover clues, it's far more fruitful for a researcher tobegin with a waking event, then link it FORWARD, to dreams thatmay follow. It's quickly apparent that not every waking event hasa dream reflection. Some dreams will ignore an event entirely.Dreams do not react to every moment in our lives. They respond toonly some of them.

Finding links in this new direction can still be a guessing game, unless you add one more element. INTENTION. When you intend todream about something in particular, your chances of doing so

Page 14: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

increase rather dramatically. To deliberately dream of flying willproduce more flying dreams than if you wait around for them toappear. Researchers used subjects that intended to dream for themin order to track the visual components of dreams. Along the way, they discovered a couple of new tools. These have worked well forover a century.

-- The picture target. An image on paper, that stays still long enough for several folksto view and analyze it, is a lot more practical than an eventthat's here and gone. To use a picture target, you might stare atit just before you go to sleep, wondering if any of the targetelements will be incorporated into your dreams of that night. Ifyou are experimenting with the psychic aspects of dreams, youcould get someone else to "send" the target to you telepathically. In either case, you have something lasting and concrete with whichto compare your dream report.

-- Multiple dreamer attempts.A single dream is like a dot on a piece of paper. Even if you wereable to reproduce the picture in your dream, you really couldn'tsee the full "picture" of how dreams work unless you added moredots, then stood back to find if they created a pattern. Considerwhen a video scene begins with the camera lens so close to anobject that you can't see its edges. You probably have no ideawhat the object is until the camera pulls back and you finally getto see the entire object plus everything surrounding it. Dreamsare like that. One dream doesn't show what many dreams will, whenviewed together. Researchers could have collected several dreamsfrom a single dreamer. But they found it was more revealing to useseveral dreamers and their many dreams gathered from a singleexperiment. So take one picture target and several dreamersdreaming several dreams to that one target and what do you get?

Subliminal Research and Free Association

The first to have some success in specifying the Consistent Cluesweren't the researchers inducing regular, lucid or psi dreams.Actually, it was the subliminal researchers.

In 1917 the Viennese neurologist Otto Pštzl presented the resultsof a study that used a tachistoscope. This device presents

Page 15: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

pictures on a screen at 1/100th of a second. At that rate most ofthe scene can't be recognized by the conscious mind. Pštzl wasable to demonstrate that the unseen parts of the briefly flashedpicture can nonetheless be smuggled into dreams. Drawings of thedreams made by dreamers during the night or early the next morningmay show traces of this subliminal imagery.

The "Pštzl Phenomenon" highlights a very important finding. It'snot only the pictures right in front of you that can form yourdream. It's not only the objects you remember that can form yourdream. Dreams also respond to what's on the periphery of yourvision, to what you're not paying direct attention and to what'sunderneath your usual level of perception.

So I have a question for you to ponder. How can you use yourwaking mind to "free associate" to an element of your dream thatwas procured by your subconscious mind? I don't mean that itbecame subconscious because your conscious mind recognized it, gotembarrassed or guilty, and then repressed the recognition. Freud'stheory held that many dreams were the result of childhood traumasand fantasies. That is, memories of childhood traumas andfantasies still operative and being acted out in maladaptivebehavior. If memories of past connections (trauma plus guilt, forexample) were unaltered by the passage of time, as Freud believed, they could be retrieved by the conscious mind because theconscious mind was aware of them at one time, even if for aninstant prior to the repression.

But what if an event is subconscious because your conscious mindnever made that connection in the first place? Never recognizedit, never named it? It might be a body-memory, instead. A motor-sensory memory can be made manifest by the movement of your handdrawn across a sheet of paper. As far as your conscious mind goes,it's truly "un" conscious. It's clear that Freudian repression isnot the same as subliminal perception. One depends on apsychological reaction to a previously conscious memory and isretrieved by written or verbal language. The other isphysiological; it's in the nature of how human perceptualapparatus works at its subconscious periphery and its retrieval isnot necessarily dependent on an oral recitation. To understandsubliminal information, we need to look elsewhere to understandthe associations that our minds make as they build the structureof the dream.

Page 16: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

The "Pštzl Phenomenon" was further studied by researchers WolfgangLeuschner and Stephan Hau. In 1992, they used a collage oftriangular objects as their target picture. In keeping withPštzl's assumptions, Leuschner and Hau discovered that the targetmaterial was apparently dissociated by the mind into fragments.REM dreams appeared to depict the fragments rather than thestructure of the picture as a whole. So nobody dreamt the fullpicture, but sometimes they dreamt parts of it. This is a goodreason to gather several dreams. More that one piece may berequired to complete the puzzle.

Consistent Clues

Leuschner and Hau's subliminal research identified four targetfeatures.

-- LABELCertain individual details of the target were mentioned indreamers' reports by their commonly recognized names. If there wasa mountain, sailboat or beach in the picture, one could find theword "mountain," "sailboat" or "beach" in the oral report. To theliteral researcher, these parts were "labeled" correctly.-- CLANGSome of the elements in the picture converted to metaphor. The useof analogy is no surprise to folks who have invested time doingdream interpretation. But these metaphors were of a specific type. They were puns. For instance, a pictorial element, such as a"sail" might transpose to the written word "sale." Such elements"clang," or sound the same. -- COLOREven if the dreamer switched to other images or used differentlabels, the colors tended to stay the same as those in thepicture. Instead of a yellow and green sailboat, the dreamer mightdream up a green and yellow car.-- FORMObjects retained their triangularity. Again, the dreamer mightswitch to other images, with different labels. But the new imageswould have three sides, too. Rather than several people withtriangular hats, the dreamer might dream up one person with a pairof triangular eyeglasses. The discovery of form was greatly aidedby the fact that the dreamers didn't just speak their dreams asthey were recorded by video tape. This type of research requiredthat they draw sketches of what they had "seen" in their dreams.

Page 17: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

Other researchers, who used 3-dimensional rather than 2-dimensional targets, would discover another Consistent Clue thathas great relevance for the flying dreamer.-- MOTIONThe way another character or object moves in the dream or the wayyour dreaming self moves in the dream can be the same sort ofmovement as found in waking life. Obviously, your physical bodydoesn't fly like Superman in physical reality. But elements ofyour motion, like speed, direction or height above the ground canbe clues to your visual whereabouts in that waking moment whichhelped inspire your sleeping dream.

Melonie's Dream Visit

The first time I became aware of Consistent Clues wasn't by way ofa picture or a lab experiment. My own waking life was the target. But it did take the cooperation of another dreamer to discoverClues. At the time of this dream, I was co-dreaming with her. Ihad never met Melonie in physical reality; we communicated witheach other by postal mail and phone. One night, Melonie decided tocome visit me in a dream. Melonie's dream began:

"I am in Linda's house. I recognize it from the photograph shesent me. Three rooms. First to my right a small glassed-in roomcontaining a piano. This room is all glass and wood."

To assist our co-dreaming, I had sent Melonie a photograph ofmyself, but not of my house. The bottom floor has three rooms. Thefamily room contains a piano. On its opposite side is a wall withtwo double sliding glass doors and a large window. At the time ofthe dream, a wooden bookcase was planned to cover most of its farwall. The blueprints for the bookcase were on the back of ourkitchen door and very much on my mind.

Melonie's dream continued:

"Then a larger room. Walls are greyish blue. I sit on a couch andwonder how I can find Linda's telephone number. It is afternoonand she is at work. Her husband and another man come in. Herhusband is a psychologist."

Page 18: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

The largest room is the living room but its walls are paintedwhite. It's the couch which is greyish blue. And it's the couchupon which I was sitting when my husband came home from work oneafternoon and handed me the mail. Seated next to me was a man whois a hypnotherapist and the two of us happened to be talking aboutdreams. For even more synchronicity, the mail included a letterfrom Melonie. And in it was this very dream.

The literal LABELS include glass, wood, piano and couch. It's notan uncommon cue for a dream to use "telephone" as an indicator ofconnection; it SOUNDS very like "telepathy." The COLOR is thegreyish blue. FORM is inferred in numbers: the 3 rooms and the 2men. The MOTION is the man coming into the room. Label, clang, color, form and motion were ingredients in Melonie's dream.

The pieces were right. But they weren't assembled as in physicalreality. In particular, some items were switched. The color of thecouch showed up on the wall. An occupation was attributed toanother man. The photograph was of the house instead of me. I wassitting on the couch rather than Melonie.

Some researchers call this a "reassociation weakness." But that'sonly if they are seeking in dreams an exact Xerox of the materialworld. To their credit, Leuschner and Hau took a more liberal viewof the phenomena. They called the opportunity for mixing andmatching "a precondition for new, witty and creative inventions ofthe kind seldom brought about by waking thought." Creativity is ahallmark of dreams.

A New View of Dreams

As far back as the early 20th century, the subliminal researchershad claimed that the dream features seemed to be "processedseparately" by the brain rather than together, as a whole. Andthey only had the outer fruits of the dream to analyze: the dreamreports. Finally, at the end of the century, neurologicalresearchers were able to use technology to study the inner-workings of the body and brain. And guess what they found?

It used to be thought that memories were stored like pages in abook, or books in a library shelf, located in a particular place

Page 19: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

in the brain. So the neurologists went looking for thoselocations. They found that the human brain no more contains memoryspots than there are picture postcards stored in the memory boardslots inside your computer case. Even when visual material firstregisters on the eye, it is recognized by two types of elements:rods and cones, and they fire in various combinations, dependingon what is seen. But human encoding is even more complex thandigital computer language. It is beginning to look like any onepart of the brain is networked with other portions of the brainand body in a sort of Internet of connectivity. Parts can be"talking" to one another at more-or-less the same time. And itseems there are particular servers handling specific sorts oftraffic.

Eyes dissect an image cast upon your retina into about 126 millionpieces, then send signals for every one of these tiny elements tothe thalamus. The thalamus in turn fires neuronal networks to andwithin the visual cortex before information ends up in the frontalcortex, where the pieces are put back together. The multi-millionbits of information don't all travel the same route, however. Allthe processing takes place along a few independent, parallelpathways. One system processes information about SHAPE, one aboutCOLOR and one about MOVEMENT, location and spatial organization.Sound familiar?

Separated information isn't just a characteristic of dreams, then.It is in the very nature of the body-brain perceptual systemitself. And it's not just subliminal dreams that manifest thesecharacteristics. Parallel pathways of research have reportedevidence of Consistent Clues, too. The Clues have been found inlabs that study regular dreams and dream psi. They've been foundout in the field of lucid dreams. And in a closely related fieldof waking endeavor: remote viewing.

Surfing Your Dream Reports

So what does this mean when you go surfing your dream reports todiscover evidence of dream-waking correlation? You already knowsome of the skills to develop beforehand: recall, recording, journaling. Take care to LABEL your dream elements as accuratelyas you can. Although you may not have a full copycat dream, a fewof the elements might be named as they are in waking life.

Page 20: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

Then do an about-face. Ignore the blatant imagery. Yes, that'sright. Ignore the labels you have given to whatever you "saw" inyour dream. At this stage in the process, don't you dare gorunning for a symbol dictionary! Time enough for that later. Muchlater. Symbol interpretation is about step 18 in a list of 20.There's a whole lot of prep work to do first.

If you haven't done so already, try to get in the habit of makingsketches of the objects in your dreams. No, not involved drawings.Quick doodles actually work better to define FORM. Write down theCOLOR you see, even if you only mention black and white.Describing MOTION may be a little more complicated. For now, justbe aware of moving about in your dream, even if you aren't inflight.

Aid for Children/Kids on the Bridge

A View from the Bridge - April 2003

The idea for The Aid for Children Project did not come from onespecific dream, but rather seemed to grow organically, as membersof The World Dreams Peace Bridge watched with horror the effect ofadvancing U.S. troops on the children of Iraq.

May Tung, herself a refugee from China when she was a little girl, was the first to mention the idea of helping the children of Iraq. She suggested sending not food or water, but therapeutic aids likestuffed toys, crayons and paper, which could be used to help thechildren deal with trauma.

It was when we scheduled the first Dream Incubation for Childrenin early April that the idea really took hold, when it wasdiscovered that several people had been dreaming not just for butwith the children of Iraq. And then people began to talk abouthow, during childhood illness or other difficulty, some stuffedtoy or doll had been a cherished friend or listener to secretstold to no one else.

At the request of the group, Ilkin Sungu, who lives in Istanbul, went to the offices there of UNICEF, where she was told that therewere already therapists in place and goods being shipped fromTurkey to refugee camps in Iraq. The director of UNICEF'sIstanbul office offered a deep discount on the types of stuffedtoys, crayons, paper and pencils we were looking for as well asenthusiastic support for the proposed program. Ilkin was assuredthat she could personally oversee the shipments, and that evencards and pictures from dreamers around the world could be sent tothe children. Thus the Aid for Children Project was born. If youwould like to contribute to this project, just send a check to:

(Note: The iMAGE Project is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organizationmanaged by World Dreams moderator Jean Campbell. All fundsdesignated for the Aid for Children Project will go directly tothe children. All donations are tax deductible.)

Along the way to this dream-created communication with thechildren of Iraq, another interesting thing developed. First camean e-mail to the Peace Bridge from Jeremy Seligson's nine-year-olddaughter Elloisa (Ellie) in Korea, and then another from VictoriaQuinton's Australian daughter, Emily, just turned nine. SoonJulian joined in from the United States, and before we knew it,there were Kids on the Bridge.

The Kids on the Bridge program is still developing. There areplans for a discussion board on the World Dreams web site, and fordream-related and peace-related activities for the kids. But mostdefinitely this is a first in the community of dreamers, a placewhere kids can have their own space for discussion and developmentof projects.

If your own kids are interested in dreams and peace, and mightlike a place to explore these with other kids from around theworld, send an email to [email protected], or watch thisspace for updates.

The World Dreams Peace Bridge continues to grow. Several newmembers have joined the Peace Bridge discussion group in the pastmonth, and there have been enough Peace Train activities startingaround the world that a special Peace Train discussion list hasbeen created at Yahoogroups specifically for Peace Trainconductors. If you would like to create a Peace Train, you canjoin the list by sending an e-mail to :[email protected].

And don't forget that Jeremy Seligson, the original Peace Traindreamer, will be conducting a Dreams and Peace Trains workshop atthe upcoming ASD Conference in Berkeley at the end of June. Jeremy will be assisted by May Tung and me. Other members of theWorld Dreams Peace Bridge will also be in attendance.

The final activity of the month of April that must be mentioned isthe creation of a new word to describe what we do on The WorldDreams Peace Bridge. You can do it too. It's called Da-Fu MuDreaming or Dreams of Big FU, meaning dreams of great blessing. The word, a combination of Japanese and Chinese, came about whenKathy Turner asked, "What do we call this kind of focused, long-term, peace dreaming we've been doing?" And a word-playful

Page 24: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

discussion ensued. Check out the Da-Fu Mu Dreaming page at Dafumu - World Dreams Peace Bridge http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/dafumu.htm

And when you dream of peace, say Dafumu!

Dreampeace: The Earth Needs DreamersResearch: Dreaming Our Way to 2012By Nick Cumbo

The Dreampeace community, explores the role of dreams in bringingabout a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, andis dedicated to bringing the vast potential of dreaming into ourculture.

Link: http://www.dreamofpeace.net/

Our web forum ‘Sea Life’, aims to bring together a large circle ofdreamers from around the world, collaborating in adventures in theworld of dreams, and ‘dreaming with and for the earth itself’.

There is a focus on small groups of dreamers (usually about 8members), called Dream Teams, sharing dreams on a regular basis, and getting to know each other on a more personal basis. Within agroup, we run creative dream incubation projects, journeys to

Page 25: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

places such as the Redwood Forests and Antarctica, attempt mutualdreaming experiments, and much more.

It was decided this month to begin running research projects todemonstrate the power of dreaming in various fields. Theseresearch projects, are also the result of a wish to improvecollaboration between members of different dream teams, and openthe forums to individual dreamers.

******************************************************************THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE YEAR 2012******************************************************************

In March, our research project focused on the topic of ‘DreamingOur Way to 2012’. As a result of this research, the site was ledthrough important changes. Most significantly, the changing of ourname from ‘Earth Dreamers’ to ‘Sea Life’, and the addition of apre-existing forum offering a wider variety of general discussionon dreams called the ‘Fishbowl’.

Firstly, I would like to call on some external evidence todemonstrate rather quickly the significance of the year 2012. Assome readers may know, the ancient Maya of Central America were anadvanced civilisation. A central part of their knowledge, wastheir sophisticated astronomy, and their understanding of timeitself.

John Major Jenkins is a key figure in our modern knowledge of thissystem. In his online article ‘The Solstice Sun and the GalacticCenter’ he writes

“Mayan cosmology is a complex science primarily concerned withunderstanding the nature of time. It utilizes calendar systemsinvented by the Maya to calculate important eras during whichdivine energies, or gods, would manifest on earth. Mayan calendarsystems are intimately involved with, and based upon, themovements of celestial bodies including the sun, moon, andplanets. Mayan calendars also track more subtle astronomicalphenomena such as eclipses and, most significantly, the slowshifting of the heavens known to modern astronomy as theprecession of the equinoxes. The precession of the equinoxes(which also could be called the precession of the solstices) wasbelieved to be responsible for a succession of World Ages, adoctrine central to Mayan Creation mythology”.

Page 26: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

“The next large turning point in the Mayan Long Count calendar, adate which marks the end of a period of over 5,125 years in Mayanchronology, occurs on December 21, 2012. The ancient Maya believedthat the years around 2012 would be attended by great changes and,in accordance with their World Age Creation mythology, thetransformation of human beings into something completely new. “

What makes this belief, all the more interesting is that the enddate was actually fixed on “an astrological alignment, analignment so compelling and rare that the ancient Mayanastronomers believed it to signal the commencement of the nextWorld Age”

“The solstice sun will be in alignment with the Galactic Plane inthe years between 1980 and 2016. In more precise terms, both theU.S. Naval Observatory and astronomer Jean Meeus (in his bookMathematical Astronomy Morsels, 1997) calculated that the solsticemeridian will align with the Galactic equator in 1988. We cancall this zone a solstice-galaxy alignment, or simply, galacticalignment. This alignment occurs roughly once every 12,800 years(one-half of a precession cycle).”

“The Maya believed the era-2012 alignment to be the mostsignificant evolutionary event that human beings experience. Forexample, the image of the sun moving into alignment with the MilkyWay is played out in the Maya ballgame. It is equivalent to themovement of the game-ball, symbol of the sun, into union with theMilky Way, the cosmic "goal." Likewise, the Mayan Creation storyof One Hunahpu's resurrection in the cosmic game court alsosymbolizes the 2012 alignment”.

------------------------------------------------------------------

For those interested, a modern calendar utilising the Mayanknowledge of time, can be found at the official website of TheWorld Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement:

Link: http://www.tortuga.com/

“This popular movement to change the calendar is also a peacemovement, and is based on the discovery of the Law of Time, adiscovery that demonstrates that time is a frequency, theuniversal frequency of synchronisation.

It is this law that maintains the universe in harmony andguarantees beauty wherever you look in nature. When we aregenuinely synchronised in time we can easily promote values such

Page 27: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

as harmony, cooperation, and spiritual unity. When there isharmony there is art and elegance.”

**************************YOUR DREAM JOURNEYS TO 2012**************************

Having explained a little about the Mayan system of time, many areprobably wondering what this has to do with dreams. Our researchinto 2012, not only gathered information from sources across theinternet, but also aimed to discover new information about thesechanges, through a knowledge source accessible to all of us, ourdreams.

Our project was to ‘Travel to 2012’, and if possible to discoverthe role of the ‘Earth Dreamers’ forum (as it was previouslyknown), and ‘dreaming with and for the earth itself’. We plannedto achieve this through dream incubation via visualisation andstating our intention, before sleeping, and the techniques oflucid dreaming.

The results were quite unexpected:

---------------------------------------------------------

2012: SEA LIFE (22 March 2003, by Explora)

Lucid dreaming, I begin to sink into the earth, into a realm ofenergy, continuing a long spiral journey through the blackness. Itis certainly not quick, but the rush of this type of travel, keepsmy thoughts moving for most of the journey. After what seems likea minute, I begin to become a bit concerned at how long it's alltaking. What can I do to maintain my lucidity, I wonder. Voicingwords, to myself, I am soon relieved to find myself noticing newvisual imagery. I see a city skyline at night, which I know to beimportant. I get the feeling that in the future I will no longerlive where where I do at the moment, and will be closer to thecity.

I eventually find myself in a room, which in some ways resemblesthe living room of my house, but which seems to be my office. Here, I see an iMac like machine, produced by Apple. I press thepower on key, and am relieved when it turns on directly, withoutthe need for the entire startup process to take place. Instantly,I notice the words 'Sea Life' centered on the top menu bar. Itseems important, as though it is the title of the product the

Page 28: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

company is working on. It reminds me of the way a company producesa background image, for itself.

It gives me a sense of deja-vu, as though I have already heardthis name somewhere before in a dream. I look at the column oficons along the left side of the screen. I notice there is alot ofAdobe software. I notice 'Adobe Sea Life' in particular. Thisstrikes me as a little bizarre, and interested, I click on theprogram. It loads, and a picture of a tank like area with sea lifeon the left side of the pool shows. I see an animation, perhaps ofthe mutation or growth of a species of sea life. The creaturesmove to the right.

Still, a little confused, I decide to see what else I can find onthe table. Reaching to the back, behind all the other little itemsthere, I find a business card. Along the back are a list ofpeoples names, about 10-12 in total. I run through the list, noticing one that's underlined. It seems this is the main numberfor the company. At this point, I begin to wonder what the companyis called. Flipping to the other side of the card, I see the name,'Don Marti & Architects'.

------------------------------------------------------------

Initially, I was quite confused. While I’d enjoyed the journey andfelt that it was a very real experience, I couldn’t really makesense of why the product was called ‘Adobe SeaLife’. Why would agroup with the name ‘Don Marti & Architects’ be producing Adobesoftware. After all Adobe is a very large organisation!

I was also a little confused, as I wondered whether it waspossible the dream was referring to some type of career in thecomputer software industry. I’m currently studyingtelecommunications at university, but had deeply hoped that myfuture career would involve the arts of dreaming.

Thankfully, I am also a member of the World Dreams Peace Bridge, amuch larger group. I decided to share my dream, to see what othersthought of it. I received a variety of interpretations, but I felta particularly strong resonance with San’s comments:

“I would look to the word Adobe. For me, having Adobe PhotoShopand Adobe PageMaker, I might consider if it had any meaning for methere, but stronger still for me, the nature of adobe. Unfiredclay. Sometimes I work with unfired clay as a medium for my art. It's very satisfying in that it's pliable, flexible andcooperative until I'm ready, and then it dries into a shape of my

Page 29: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

choosing. When I am ready (or not sometimes) I can break it, orleave it to the rain, or divide it between friends in ceremony, etc. Ultimately, it returns to the place it began, as we all do....so for me the Sea Life and the Adobe might provide for aninteresting transformation and I'd have to imagine how I'd want itto unfold ... perhaps one lapping wave at a time ...”

Link: http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/

These wonderful words seemed to redirect me to my hearts wishes, for it reminded me of what I felt about the nature of dreaming. Idecided to research the name ‘Don Marti’ a little. Having saidthis, I was still considering the possibility, that I may beinvolved in software development, and assumed that if this werethe case I’d be working in Australia (as this is where I currentlylive).

I keyed in his name, and was surprised to find that he was a wellknown article writer in the Linux scene. He seemed to be a keyfigure, in offering his opinions on the direction of the operatingsystem.

Somehow, the dream seemed to have drawn it’s meaning from the nameof a writer, I had previously never heard of. My first associationof course, was the nature of the Linux platform, as open-source,and under development from anyone who chose to participate. Thisseemed to hold true for the work we were doing at the ‘EarthDreamers’ web forum.

Meanwhile, DM7, a member of the dream team I’m a part of, managedto visit 2012:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

ATTEMPT TO ASTRAL TRAVEL… 2012 (29 March 2003, by DM7)

Everything is so real so I have to use some Reality Check’s. I tryto push my finger through the wall, but it doesn’t work. I try topinch myself and it HURTS! “Maybe I’m not dreaming?” I thought, trying to be stubborn because I really want to travel into thefuture again. I check the clock and it remains the same. I slapmyself really HARD and it is kind of numb, but I still can feelthe pain. I’m really confused about if I’m actually dreaming ornot.

Page 30: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

I finally try to back trace where I am. I come to the conclusionthat I WAS from my bed. “There is a possibility that I’m dreaming, but no matter what I do… it won’t tell me if I’m dreaming.” Ithought… trying to figure out if it’s actually a dream or not. I’mextremely confused, but then finally, I thought, “How about tryingto travel to the future… if you can do it, then you’re dreaming. If you can’t, then you’re not dreaming.” So I proceed, trying tothink how to travel since I usually go outside and fly toward thesky, but I can’t float and I get an impression that I’m locked inthe house.

I can’t think of anything except yelling out my command so I did.I yell, “TRAVEL TO THE FUTURE IN THE YEAR OF 2012… NOT 2,012 YEARSLATER, BUT THE YEAR OF 2012… NOW!” To my surprise, the scenechanges. “That’s way too easy!” I thought. I’m still in my houseand it still looks very much the same, but my parents are busydoing something in the kitchen. I turn around, trying to find somekind of a source to tell me the year it is. I find a huge TV inthe middle of the hall. I get an impression that it is actuallythere so I can ask for the year.

I go to it and to my surprise, I have full control over the TV. Iask it what year it is right now and “2012” in green text appearson the TV while it is on the news channel. I don’t understand thenews anyways so I go into the computer room. I notice that I havecarpal tunnel braces on. I try to get them off. While I do that, Ilose my lucidity. Luckily my intention is strong enough to becontinued.

I get on the computer and check on the forum. There are twodifferent forums. One is from dreamofpeace.net and other one ismore like a dream interpretation forum. I notice that there aremuch more active members on the latter (perhaps more users thereas well). I notice that there are a lot people starting to beconcerned about their dreams, requesting for the interpretation. Iget an impression that year of 2012 is a “opening” time for peopleabout dream interpretation where it will eventually lead to luciddreaming and dreaming of peace, etc.

The topic of “dreaming” is still very much underground like it isright now, but there are more members there. The next thing I knowis that I wake up.

-------------------------------------------------------------

As well as demonstrating a fun and original ‘reality check’ foruse in lucid dreaming, DM7’s story shed valuable light on the role

Page 31: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

of the forum in the future. I was quite excited by these events,as I often share the Dreampeace website address with other peopleI meet who are interested in dreams. Recently, I’ve begun towonder how useful it would be to many visitors, because of thelack of a general forum for discussion of dreams. DM7’s dreamreinforced the value of another forum, to help encourage people tomove from not only sharing their dreams, but also to activelyseeking adventure and guidance for the world this way.

A few days later, in a response, to a dream I had posted online, entitled ‘Dance of the Spirit’, another dreamer ‘Singer’, replied:

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, Explora!

I enjoyed reading your dream posts very much. Dreams are soimportant, especially positive ones that foster taking better careof ourselves and our beautiful planet! Our future survival dependson it!

I was reading a book called Matter into Feeling by F. A. Wolf,Ph.D., who put it very nicely when he wrote, as an example:

“The dream experiences of Australian Aboriginal people indicatethat the needed characteristic arises, is first born, in dreams. Each creature dreams of the possibility for the next evolution, sothat, for example, the fish dreams of the amphibian and theamphibian dreams of the bird, and so on. That is, we first dreamin order to become aware of our future possibilities --- the newways that each one of us may exist. And the ability to senseoneself as something new or altered seems to be vital forsurvival, for altering the genetic code.”

Let us keep dreaming!

Love and Light to All

---------------------------------------------------------------

This seemed to fit the theme of ‘Sea Life’ perfectly. It conjuredup the same animation, I had witnessed in my dream voyage to 2012,of the sea life mutating and evolving in the tank. Moreimportantly, it demonstrated what I believe we are doing throughdreaming, we are learning to become aware of our futurepossibilities not only as individuals but also on a planetarylevel.

Page 32: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

A week later, through a strange series of coincidences, I happenedto stumble across, a web forum called The Fishbowl, run by themagnificent Toko-Pa. I quite enjoyed the discussion here, due toit’s obvious direction with regards to spreading the potential ofdreaming, and it’s clear distribution of information.

When Toko-Pa mailed me asking me to add a link from Dreampeace tothe forum, I was quite honoured. I soon realised that this was awonderful opportunity to offer consistency with DM7’s vision of analternate and more open dreaming forum:

“Dream School is an innovative organisation dedicated to theintegration of dreamsharing into our culture. Offering a thrivingdream forum called the Fishbowl, as well as creative seminars, lectures, private dreamwork and online resources.”

Link: http://www.herownroom.com/fishbowl

Rather than just linking to the ‘Fishbowl’, it was decided toactually make it our sister forum. I was just putting together theupdated website, when I became aware of the logical next step. Iwas wondering what to do about the icons for ‘The Fishbowl’ and‘Earth Dreamers’ forums, when up popped a thought. The realisationthat the ‘Sea Life’ program, the ‘company’ was working on, hadbeen a new name for the ‘Earth Dreamers’ forum, all along.

************CONCLUSION ************

Through this research project, we’ve seen the nature of mutualdreaming really come alive. I remain with the feeling that theenergies of the ‘galactic alignment’ of the 2012-era, manifestedthemselves through our research project, resulting in a series ofunexpected discoveries. I feel there was some inherent meaning tothese, that we were actually being reminded of some strategies toassist us through the changes the earth is going through.

Our initial intent was to discover more about the role of the‘Earth Dreamers’ web forum. Our results:- In my journey to 2012, I appeared to be a key member of acompany, called ‘Don Marti & Architects’ working on a productcalled ‘Adobe Sea Life’.- DM7’s dream of 2012, reflected a future need for more opendream interpretation, and a general discussion forum.

Page 33: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

The meaning of our dreams, could only be uncovered through acombination of techniques:

At the time of my dream, I only knew the word Adobe as the name ofa large software organisation. As a result of sharing the dreamwith the World Dreams Peace Bridge, I was lucky to receive avariety of interpretations, including San’s reflection on it as‘Unfired clay’, ‘Pliable, flexible, Co-operative, until I’m ready, and then it dries into a shape of my choosing’. We could probablyextend this a little and call it a shape of our choosing.

The meaning of the name ‘Don Marti & Architects’, was initallycompletely unknown to me. I was a little suspicious about this, soI thought I’d check out the name on the internet. Don Marti, proved to be a key writer and reviewer of an open-source operatingsystem. I would guess that this strongly relates to my own futurepath, and that of the other ‘architects’ involved in our work atthe ‘Sea Life’ forum. What makes this interesting, is that themeaning relied on an external source of information, namely theinternet. My dream appeared to not only draw it’s information fromthe future, but also from the heart of our collectiveconsciousness.

The key to uncovering the meaning of the word ‘Sea Life’ hingedupon a series of future events coming together, insynchronisation. Firstly, as a result of posting a dream ‘Dance ofthe Spirit’, I discovered what the reference to ‘Sea Life’ was allabout: realising our own potential by first dreaming it. Next, astrange series of events led me to come across a wonderful forumcalled the ‘Fishbowl’, drawing upon DM7’s vision of an alternativedream forum. Finally, we have the logical next step of realisingthe similarities in themes between the ‘Fishbowl’ and ‘Sea Life’.

I think we see three themes being stressed here: the importance ofsharing our dreams, of our spiritual unity, and finally of the keyrole of time in synchronisation and bringing together theseconcepts.

As a result of these changes, we now have a new forum for dreaminterpretation and general dreams discussion called the‘Fishbowl’, and the renaming of the ‘Earth Dreamers’ forum tosomething a little more intriguing, ‘Sea Life’. Through thisalignment of direction and themes between the respective forums, people are more likely to find a place where they feel comfortablesharing and envision their dreams. Surely this will have abeneficial role, as dreams continues to take a greater place inour society.

We are all intimately connected to one another. In the place ofthe heart, we are all one being, none of us separated from anyother. Let us remember this as we ‘Dream Our Way To 2012’.

Stay tuned next week for the results of our research into thetopic of ‘Dreams and Healing’. In the meantime, Dreamers areinvited to simply contact, or to share their dreams of 2012, withNick (Explora)

As far as phone calls go I’m always leery of the ones thatarrive late in the night; in my life they always seem to be aharbinger of bad news. This call was no different and when I heardmy mother in-law Charlotte’s voice, I knew that bad tidings werearriving once again, as she broke the news to me that Sandy; aclose member of the family had just died.

There wasn’t much else that she could say; the news wasn’tunexpected since he had been taken to Hospice just that morning. But I also knew from experience that you can never adequatelyprepare yourself for the emotions that come during a loved one’spassing. As I listened to the grief etched in her voice, I closedmy eyes and brought an image of Sandy into my mind and mentally Iwished his spirit well wherever it may have gone on its nextjourney. He had fought a hard fight against cancer, but in the endhis body had simply given out.

As the family gathered at my mother in-laws house the nextmorning, I sat in the kitchen sipping my coffee while staring at apicture of him perched on a living room shelf. Since he had been acompanion to Charlotte for close to twenty years, I had over adecade of memories to look back on. To our family and friends,Sandy had been known for his love of playing cards. Often I wouldarrive at her house to find him on the front porch or at thekitchen table dealing out the cards for another Poker game, as heand his friends taunted each other about their card skills with anItalian dialect few could understand.

But one memory stood out in my mind and it was the memory of adream he had shared with us a few months before his death. It wasa dream that came at a time when his body was weak, suffering theeffects left by the radiation treatments, which caused him tospend most of his days sleeping. In his dream, Sandy finds himself healthy and free of the painthat had manifested itself in his waking life, as he sits at atable playing cards. All his friends are there with smiles andlaughter, celebrating the joy that can only be found in longfriendships. In this card game, Sandy is king. Every hand is awinning hand and no one can come close to beating the cards heholds before him. As the dream ends Sandy is left with a clearmemory of that card game. It made such an impression on him that

Page 36: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

he mentioned it to Charlotte the next morning. At this point Iknew that his dream had been a healing dream, a message to bothhim and his family that all would be well after he passed. However, I also felt that it was a dream that needed to be toldagain now, to leave an image of Sandy in our hearts that we couldhold on to as we dealt with our grief over his passing.

Later that morning we made arrangements at a local funeral homefor Sandy’s burial. Since we would be holding a memorial servicefor him, I decided to honor his dream of the card game by using itas a sort of eulogy, which I could read out loud during theservice. I figured this would give friends and family a fondmemory to remember him by.

After we had got home, Charlotte asked me to take Sandy’s clothesover to the funeral home. As she handed them to me, she lookedaround the room concerned she might have forgotten something, which gave me a sudden insight. I asked her to give me a deck ofhis cards, the ones he used during his card games. As she handedthem to me, I could see her eyes fill up with tears, in thosecards was a lifetime of memories for her. Gently, I told her thatwe were going to send Sandy off right; that we were going to honorhis dream of the card game by putting a deck of cards in his shirtpocket, the same way he had always carried them around when he wasalive. For me, it was my way of honoring his memory and sayinggoodbye. A few days later, the priest of the church where the service wasto be held, rejected my idea of my giving a eulogy during hismemorial service due to my not being a member of the church. Myinitial reaction was one of anger. I’m a real stickler forhonoring dreams but in this case I realized my frustration withthe church was not going to get me anywhere. Instead, on the dayof his service, one of my sister-in laws, Shelby gave a short butvery moving eulogy. I realized this was her way of honoring hismemory and saying goodbye. Life goes like that sometimes, what youthink should happen doesn’t but what needs to happen does. Our dreams also work like that; they cross the bridge between theliving and the departed and in doing so often leave us with a wayof saying goodbye that we never expected. But that bridge worksboth ways, in that it allows the departed to say their goodbyes tous as well. In the ensuing months it was apparent thru our dreams, that Sandy was not going leave without saying his goodbyes also.

A few weeks after his memorial service, I received another phonecall from Charlotte. I had been in a hurry to be on time for an

Page 37: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

appointment; however, as soon as I heard her words saying to methat I was the only person she could talk to, I stopped dead in mytracks. Something in the tone in her voice told me that I neededto listen very carefully to the dream she was about to tell me.Originally a bit skeptical about dream work, she now felt that noone else would believe her experience from that morning.

She had awoken a bit earlier than her alarm was set for, and asshe lay in bed in that twilight zone between sleep and being fullyawake, she heard a most melodic sound, as if someone was playing amusical instrument she had never heard before. Looking over in thedirection of the sound, she realized it was a row of metal hangersthat were hung on a small clothes rack across the room. They wereswaying as if moved by a gentle breeze and something in themovement and sound immediately brought an image of Sandy to hermind. Now fully awake, she spoke out loud; " You old son of a gun,you wanted me to know that you were ok, didn’t you". Since therehad not been an open window in her room or anything else toexplain the hanger’s movement, in her heart she knew thisexperience had been his way of letting her to know he was doingwell.

In the spring after Sandy’s interment, my wife had a dream whereshe and Sandy were dancing together alone in the cafeteria of thechurch school she had attended as a child. Since my wife alwaysenjoyed dancing with Sandy at social occasions, I told her that ifit were my dream I would wonder if her dream was his way of havingone last dance together. A way of saying good-bye to her, with amemory of a dance never forgotten.

Just before Sandy’s death we had received news that my othersister in law Kelly, was going to have a baby. The timing of thisnews in the context of Sandy’s illness was of great comfort to ourfamily. Where there once had only been the potential for anending, there was now the news of a beginning, for us the cyclesof life would run full circle and it was just before Kelly gavebirth, that one last goodbye would be said. It arrived in a dreamthat Kelly had during the time she and her husband were thinkingof names for the baby. In her dream Kelly finds herself at work asshe hears that the TV show “Crossing Over” with spiritual mediumJohn Edwards is going to be filming a show there. Kelly then findsherself in an empty auditorium. She sees John Edwards walk up onthe stage and he tells her he is communicating with Sandy. Whenshe asks him what Sandy is saying, he tells her that Sandy says toname the baby after him.

Page 38: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

Given Sandy’s easygoing relationship with Kelly when he had beenalive, it didn’t surprise me that he had one last moment of funwith her. A joke shared between friends, and a way of sayinggoodbye, in the land of dreams where those who have departed willalways be close.

Dream: Heading North

o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o

DATE : 14 apr 2003 11:38DREAM : heading north

=( last night was sunday. i finished writing the draft of thechapter on WWW for the textbook which mohsen is writing. as withmost projects I attempt, i began it well but had increasingdifficulty getting it done. i start creative tasks easily, butthe last five percent seems to take more effort than all that goesbefore. it felt good to finally get the last of the text written,so now i can reread and polish, find illustrations. i startedwriting the PERL script which will take the many little files ofparagraphs, concatenate them with various levels of formatting. mohsen wants copy in MS word and i have already decided to makeboth an HTML and XML version of the material. the last, the XML,is just to be certain that i am fluent enough in the horrible XSLT

Page 39: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

style sheets to warrant the somewhat disparaging things i had towrite about the current directions coming out of the W3Corganization. i did not get to sleep until 05:30, feelingexhausted but still wound up from completing this task. sleep didnot come easy this night. )= the steppes of siberia are a cold and forbidding place. almost nocolors, just shades of brown and gray. sometimes the auroraborealis comes almost down to the ground like a sparkling fog oflight, but not now. today is just flat white sunlight with thelong shadows of autumn. i am weary and slogging it out the lastdistance until i get back to the village, just a collection ofrude huts gathered around a wide spot in the path across thetundra.

i am glad to be finally back. i will be the last of theexpedition to check back in so we will be ready for the fullexpedition as soon as i can check my gear, get some food andrefreshment, and pack up to go. there are a few rail tables setup on the edge of town, just there so we can repack our backpacks. we had been told to go out on a vigorous day hike, each of us in adifferent direction, a shakedown hike to test that our equipmentwas properly packed and balanced.

the village shaman is a foreigner, a laplander who has followedthe caribou all over the arctic circle. he has formed up thisexpedition to travel into the hard north ahead of us. he nowwatches as i unpack my gear, checking that everything has remainedwhere it ought to be. a bit of bone or thread. a couple pointsof antler. canteen. a heavy set of spare socks. everything hasa purpose. the loss of some item might mean, at best, loss ofsome function when we arrive. at worst, loss of life in theunforgiving north lands ahead of us.

one of the other men over to my left is complaining bitterly andhas thrown down a guitar. it is a fender martin, electric guitarwith shiny steel strings. i had wondered about that object too. since we will have no amplifiers or electricity to play itproperly, why should he have to bear the extra weight of thething. if we are to need music at some point, surely a smallbalalaika would tote better and make better sound when it isneeded.

the shaman shakes his head, already weary of the conversation. hepicks up the fallen instrument and patiently returns it to berepacked on the side of the other man's gear. everything has beenselected with care. nothing is extra or spare.

Page 40: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

i wish i could be certain of the reason for this expedition. weare to head north and to keep going beyond all recognition ofanyone now alive in the village. the shaman is certain that wewill encounter something. something necessary, perhaps preciousand perhaps threatening. it is out there waiting but not forlong. the cold white winter will set in soon and we must be backbefore the snows get too deep to travel. the shaman can not bemore precise because his knowledge and certainty comes from hisdreams, and no one doubts the man who is slightly touched withthinness, so he can see the other side of things.

=( i wake and the clock says 10:48. it takes me a little while tobe sure that i am awake and will not get back to sleep. i havefew waking associations with this content. no one had names norwas i familiar with the few bleak men solemnly packing their geararound those tables on the edge of town. just certainty that wewere going north and no one quite knew what to expect. i supposethere is a simple and straight forward interpretation, relating tothe academic task i have just finished and not exactly knowingwhat fate it will have. i can not imagine that my writings arewhat mohsen expected and do not know what result, if any, willcome from the labor. )=

I also mentioned thatwe could go and visit my grandmother who has been gone for manyyears, he took me to this house, and I remember that the floorswere wooden and there were lights on and as we were going throughthis doorway to enter a room, a child appeared and it was a youngboy about 6-7 yrs old, then the rest of the children appeared aswe entered the room, they were playing games like pinball machinesor something, I remember asking my guide if the children were alldead and he replied yes. I remember just about as we were about toleave that there was another child and then a dog came running outfrom somewhere in the house and I again asked if the dog was deadhe said yes. The children told me that they were quite happy andloved being there, somehow that made me happy, all of the childrenhad smiles. My guide told me as we were leaving that I didn'thave to try and breath because it was not necessary, he then askedme if I would like to see outside, and I said yes. It was brightand sunny, there was a stream with all sorts of lush greenery andflowers, there was not a breeze and it was not hot it was a greatfeeling of beauty and peace and the grass was beautiful as I hadnever seen, the colors were magnificent, the sky was blue, nothingbut quiet all around, I kept looking for my grandmother and then Iwoke up.

Firstly Hi all hope you dont mind me joinin in.Time of Dream 4 years agoIn my dream I was shown to this normal looking front door, andsomeone or something was urging me to enter. When I went toward the door Igot such a feeling of terror I was so frightened of what wasbehind that door. Well I woke up for real, had a few mins trying to

Page 44: E.l.e.c.t.r.i.c D.r.e.a.m - dreamgate.com · about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture

shake it off then lay down again and went to sleep. As soon as Idid I was back at the same door with the strongest compulsion toenter, but again such terror gripped me,I woke up again and it musthave took me an hour to get rid of the feeling of terror I had. 3years later the memory of that dream was still strong in my mindand I now feel I know what it was about. 2 years ago I wasdiagnosed as having Cancer, well you think death straight off,but aweek later I had accepted it, then I was cleared. 1 year later Iwas again very ill and thought I was going to die,but I was only abit scared for a day. So my dream,it was either a way to take awaya lot of my fear, or someone or something gave me 2 more chancesin life. Probably should,nt a put this on this site, but I wouldlike to know what others think. Myself I got The Reaper tatto onmy arm to mock him,but I wonder, will I see that door again.
