The RBI today asked banks to provide doorstep banking facilities to senior citizens of more than 70 years of age and differently-abled persons by December this year. Banks have been directed that senior citizens and specially-abled persons, including the visually-impaired, should be provided basic services like pick-up and delivery of cash, chequebooks and demand drafts at their residence. These facilities should include pick-up of cash and instruments against receipt, delivery of cash against withdrawal from accounts, delivery of demand drafts, submission of Know Your Customer (KYC) documents and Life Certificates at the premises or residence of such customers. "Banks are advised to implement these instructions by December 31, 2017, in letter and spirit and give due publicity in their bank branches and websites," it said. The notification further said that in addition to the facility of Digital Life Certificate under 'Jeevan Praman' Scheme, pensioners can submit physical Life Certificate form at any branch of the pension-paying bank. Banks have also been advised that a fully KYC compliant account should automatically be converted into a 'Senior Citizen Account' based on the date of birth available in the bank's records. - EDITOR

In the meeting chaired by Sh.Sandeep Kumar, the then Social Welfare Minister on 11-01-2016 with Confederation members, it was decided that Revenue Department of Delhi Govt. would take suitable steps for organising free pilgrimage tour within India for the senior citizens twice a year for 200 senior citizens in each group. Subsequently, the Minister agreed with the revised proposal sent by Confederation on 23-05-2016 regarding initially visit to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Pushkar every year by 400 senior citizens consisting of 40 senior citizens in each group. The proposal was remained unimplemented since then. Now Sh. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister and Sh. Manish Sisodia, Deputy C.M., have agreed in principle in a meeting held on 20-11-2017 that Delhi Govt. is planning various free pilgrimage tours for senior citizens. Initially, the religious places have been selected such as Vaishno Devi, Ajmer Sharif, Swarn Mandir, Vrindavan, Mathura, Barsana, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Neelkanth. All expenses would be born by Delhi Govt. The details of the scheme are being worked out by Tourism Department of Delhi Govt. An official notification is expected by the end of December, 2017. J.R.Gupta, Chairperson of the Confederation, has hailed the decision of the Delhi Govt and conveyed thanks to both C.M and Dy. C.M for their kind gesture towards senior citizens of Delhi. This is the result of continuous efforts of the Confederation since January, 2016. Senior Citizens Unity Zindabad - EDITOR
