    The Zodiac Murderer

    ADMIN 10 OCTOBER, 2012 18

Between December 1968 and October 1969, the Zodiac Murderer attacked seven people innorthern California, killing five of them. For years terrorized sending letters to newspapers, whichincluded threats and in codes that never completely deciphered, information on who he was.Never captured nor knew for sure who was ...

Zodiac is believed to have between 20 and 30 at the time of his crimes, he was white, stocky, withbrown hair, who knew languages encrypted and intelligence was brilliant. Above we see a sketchof the murderer.

The Zodiac Murderer stalked Northern California between December 1968 and October 1969. In aletter allegedly confessed to murdering his 37 victims, but the only confirmed victims were fourmen and three women, victims of which only two survived to give evidence about the identity of this brilliant yet unresolved murderer who, like Jack the Ripper , made history by outwit police andinvestigators.

Thus, because their identity is unknown, it is still impossible to raise a biography of the murderer. All that is known of him is that he is a tall, thick and burly, with glasses, you would have between20 and 30 when they committed their crimes. It is also known that possesses great intelligence, isalmost certainly an amateur astrological matters, who knows of codes and cryptography, whichhas a high degree of self-centeredness and, like many other serial murderers, enjoys gettingprominence and sowing fear in others.

Thus and since there is no biographical history to tell, most suitable in the case of this murderer

will expose his small but brilliant criminal career, but not before warning that the stories will beabout the crimes committed by the Zodiac, are all reconstructions developed based on testimonyand other evidence found in the course of investigations conducted by detectives, police officers, criminologists and other experts.

    Betty Lou Jensen

It was a December 20, 1968 the day the attack took place Betty Lou Jensen and David 16 ArthurFaraday, 17.

At first, Betty and David were together in the front seat of the car of David, parked in some wayfrom the road known as Herman Road (East Vallejo, California). It was night, the heat was on andthe seats recline at an angle of 45. A few feet away lay the car door 10 of the pumping station of Lake Herman. The only light that fell in that light was the light of the moon, often witnessedcouples who went to that place to smoke pot, drink beer and do other things ...

    David Arthur Faraday

But that romantic prelude came to an end when at about 23:05 another car passed by the curvewhich was near the car of David and, instead of continuing their journey, parked about twometers. The driver of that car was wearing an anorak (a type of heavy jacket with hood) and woredark glasses, certainly disturbing detail since it was night. After a few minutes the stranger downthe window of his car and asked Betty and David to get off the car. Both refused to satisfy therequest suspicious and that's when the big unknown out of his car, pulled a gun from his anorak, approached the couple and, after looking at them intently for a moment, began to stalk the carturning.

The situation was frightening, partly because the passenger window (the Betty) was open.

Suddenly the silence was broken when the man broke the window dark anorak right rear of a shot, after which he took another shot over the left rear wheel. Panicked youths huddled on thepassenger side. The burly stranger ran but Betty had gotten out of the vehicle, so merelymomentarily put his arm through the open window and put a gun to David's ear. Then he pulledthe trigger and the bullet pierced horizontally David's head, splattering blood all over the car atthe same Betty threw a scream of horror knowing that the sound was synonymous with death ...

It was 23:05 when a car pulled up beside the car (in the photo above, as it appeared on the scene)that were Betty and David. The stranger, wearing anorak and glasses, were asked to leave the car. They refused and then he got out of his car, started walking around the car for them to be firedfrom one side corrieran, David killed a headshot and Betty, who had run the shot dead a fewmeters of the car ...

Despite eight meters and had advanced peak, Betty escaped the Zodiac Murderer, who skillfullygave him five shots, one after another. Betty instantly fell on his right side: his body, already dead, covered in blood lying to 8.55 meters from the rear bumper of the Rambler (David's car).

Meanwhile, David was dying on his back in the car, feeling like life was slipping in the bloodcoming out of his skull pierced. Finally the murderer adjourned its work and fled in his car, soDavid got to live a little more before death surprised him the way to hospital.

Ferrin and Mageau, a romance interrupted by bullets

    Darlene Ferrin

It was a Friday July 5, 1969 when Darlene Elizabeth Ferrin 22 and Michael Mageau Renault 19 wereattacked by the Zodiac Murderer.

It was an "open secret" that Darlene was an unfaithful wife who had several lovers, one of whomwas Michael Mageau. Building on July 04, Darlene had been going out with Michael.

It was far from midnight when Darlene called the nurse and asked if he could stay longer with herdaughter Dena, since she had to leave again, supposedly to buy fireworks that her husband hadasked. The babysitter called and Darlene went to pick up Michael to go to have a good time nearthe golf course of Blue Rock Springs, where at night was common to see cars parked withengolosinadas couples.

But just after a while since the couple started heading to Blue Rock Springs, from the shadows of the tree lined street came a vehicle began to follow with disturbing insistence.

    Michael Mageau

It was about 23:55 pm and the car was following persecutor rapidly. Darlene turned repeatedly tomislead the car but the Zodiac Murderer was too clever to let go of their young prey. Despite thatDarlene made it to the golf Blue Rock Springs, but because of the nervousness that embargaba hita tree trunk and the car was turned off, remaining stuck about twenty yards from the entrance tothe golf course. Normally there would have been other couples in their cars, but that night wasJuly 4 and celebrated with family people, so that the two young men were the only adulterersamid that vast dark place.

Alone, in the middle of the night, Darlene and Michael saw that the car was approachingpersecutor and parked on the left, about eight feet. It was as if the death had parked next to him, announcing their proximity. For a moment the couple illusory felt great relief that, after amoment, the car was gone intimidating at full speed. But, after about five minutes, the car turnedstalker, this time in tangent parquendose behind them, just as did the transit guards to block thepassage ...

Suddenly a bright light and intense illuminated them from the other vehicle. Michael and Darlenemomentarily calmed believing that it was some police. The subject left the car and went towardsthem, walking toward the passenger side because that side window was down with glass. Lightsaid Michael's face and then heard the first shot of the five seriously wounded Darlene andMichael, who made the mistake of screaming in pain after the Zodiac Murderer had begun the

march back to his car. So, to hear the cry of Michael, the killer turned and shot him four more: onethat failed, two that ended the life of Darlene and a final shot that wounded Michael.

Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau had crashed into a tree near a golf course. The collision wasminor and did not hurt but the car broke down and Zodiac, which was chasing, he pretended hewas going, he was stationed in tangent as traffic policeman, down, Michael's face lit up and firedfive shots against lovers. Believing them dead began to withdraw, but when Michael shouted themurderer turned and fired four more times, killing and wounding more Marlene Michael.

After the murderer escaped in his car slowly to avoid attention, Michael barely managed to crawlout of the car with the cheeks and tongue pierced by the bullet that pierced his brain fortunately. After a while I found three teenagers who were responsible for calling the police and medicalservices. Michael, who survived, had clearly stated that the murderer was white, heavyset, wearing glasses, had between twenty-six and thirty years and light brown hair, short, curly andmilitary style.

    .

    Grim calls

After killing Darlene and Michael, Zodiac was a cab and reported the crime to the police station inVallejo. Also called the husband of Darlene and her in-laws, but did not speak and only issuedgasps.

Not content with the murder of Michael and Darlene, that night came the Zodiac Murderer, at00:40 am, at a telephone booth located near the place which he called: Vallejo Police Station. Theoperator Nancy Slover, who first responded, said that the voice of the murderer was so devoid of accents and bumps, while gently but forcefully. The opening words of the murderer were these: "Iwant to report a double murder. If you walk a mile east on Avenue Parkway to the public park, find two young in a brown car. "Shocked, Nancy tried to interrupt to get data but the murdererspoke louder and continued until the end in a serious tone and provocative with the words: "Theyhave been shot with a 9mm Luger. I also killed the boys last year. Goodbye. "

Meanwhile Dean, husband of the late Darlene, just out of the Caesar's Palace (worked there) andwas driving home along with some colleagues and a few bottles constructed to celebrate July 4th.Upon arrival, Dean saw that Darlene was not and soon the phone rang at 01:30 am. A friend of

Each newspaper had been responsible for sending the police photocopies of the letter receivedwith the encrypted message. The task will not be easy as it seemed every third of the encryptedmessage was eight lines with seventeen symbols per line and, in turn, the symbols were toovaried: Greek symbols, weather, Morse code symbols, maritime signals, astrological signs andletters ordinary alphabet.

In the end, the identity of those codes deciphered surprise the experts of Naval Intelligence, theCIA and the FBI. Meanwhile as the police chief of Vallejo, Jack E. Stiltz, had seen to publicly ask theauthor of three letters sent another letter with more data to show that he was the murderer. Theanswer was chilling and arrived promptly on August 4, 1969, just three days after the letters to thenewspapers. There, in these new cards, the murderer was revealed his identity in the above codesand gave details of the crimes that only he could know, details about the veracity of the police wasuncertain, details that had not been booked and brought to light ... Also, for the first time as themurderer called himself "Zodiac", as seen in this excerpt from the letter (3 pages in full) withinwhich is included the start: >No skill needed. Among other things, the Zodiac had written that letter that "he would" whendescifrasen code. I did not know that their code had already been almost completely revealed byHarden, a brilliant couple. However, the little that remained to be prevented even decipher hisidentity.

Donald Harden found herself facing a "keyword substitution", where each letter of the alphabetwas replaced by a symbol, a letter or a figure. The trouble was that the murderer had used somany different symbols that was virtually impossible to replace one by one, so that Harden had todevise its own method of finding the same elements, patterns and relationships.

  • 7/28/2019 El Zodiaco en Ingles

    7/29

As for the story of how Harden broke the code, this is as follows:

Donald Gene Harden was 41, was a professor of History and Economics at the Institute NorthSalinas and decipher clues loved since I was a child. He had read the letters that the murdererforced to publish three newspapers and being a Sunday morning in which he had nothing to do,

decided to resort to the Zodiac cryptogram to escape the boredom. Then he took his old manualCryptography and set to work its neurons. After much deliberation, concluded that it was facing a"keyword substitution", where each letter of the alphabet was replaced by a symbol, a letter or afigure. The trouble was that the murderer had used so many different symbols that was virtuallyimpossible to replace one by one, so that Professor Harden had to devise its own method of finding the same elements, patterns and relationships. Apparently there was no way of knowingthe order between the various parts of the message or breaks between words that representedthe encrypted message. It was three hours and working hard without decoding the message, untilcuriosity of his wife Betty June Harden was awakened and she joined in the search for the solution. With input from Betty things started to go faster but still the night came without the mysterious

code was deciphered. At the time Donald was tired and wanted to leave the task for the next day,but the obsession and anxiety of Betty to decipher the code was such that it continued to workalone for a while until they caught Donald's interest and decided to accompany her. Among thevarious assumptions made in the investigative work of the couple, one that was valid and that itwas crucial importance, raised in part by psychological insight, Betty made regarding what shouldbe the start of message encryption: namely Betty believed that the murderer, just like so manyother serial murderers, should be as self-centered as to start the message with an "I", and alsoalmost certainly the first sentence would be something like "I like to kill." Indeed, everythingstarted to go better when tested with "I like killing people" as initial sentence. In turn, whileHarden saw advancing the intellectual perversity murderer was such that he had done things how

are you: write the symbol Q backwards to think that was an E, making it almost certainmisspellings were intentional use seven different symbols (using a rotation system) for the E andmake two symbols can be either A or S. In addition to that, the murderer apparently hadmisapplied its own key at certain points of the message, which could also be intentional. Despitemany difficulties, after twenty hours of Harden concluded that almost all (never could figure outthe last part) of the message should be literally (in English and with misspellings that made themurderer) as well: < >. Translated and without spelling mistakes, the above messagemean something like this:

Once cracked the code, called the director Donald Harden at night the San Francisco Chronicle andinformed him that he had solved the mystery, but the reaction was director demotivating and

unenthusiastic as many others had sent their supposed solutions, so Harden which had to mail thesolution for it, along with other so-called solutions, were to stop Sergeant Lynch, who is in chargeof sending all that capable professionals to determine whether the alleged solutions were suitable.Surprisingly, Naval Intelligence experts reviewed the process that Harden had followed andconcluded that the solution was correct. In fact, so perfect was the process of its solution Hardenwas released and went on to become the official interpretation of the undisputed part of themessage that got interpreted, which never happened with the letter sequence"EBEORIETEMETHHPITI" sequence on which multiple hypotheses are formulated but none hassucceeded as safe and indisputable answer.

Shepard and Hartnell, killed by the executioner of the Zodiac

    Cecilia Ann Shepard

The attack on Cecilia Ann Shepard and Bryan 22 Calvin Hartnell 20 took place September 27, 1969and was, of all the crimes of the Zodiac Murderer, the most emblematic of all that was whilecriminal episode emerged the most representative image and remembered the Zodiac Murderer, not only for its shocking nature but because it was a clear symbol of the essence of dark and

enigmatic psychopath who was hiding behind the guise employee unsettling and disturbing thatfateful September 27 1969 ...

That day, on the shores of Lake Berryessa (near Napa, California), Cecilia and Bryan enjoyed apicnic under the shade of two oaks that isolates the grove, growing on a peninsula (in this case, part of the shore excelled and got caught a little on the lake). It was evening, there were no peoplearound and the fresh breeze filled the serenity of the landscape. But amid all this peace somethingwoke Cecilia slight concern: in the distance, across the water around the right side of thepeninsula, you could see a silhouette that despite the distance appear blurred, hinted it was alarge man with brown hair. For now he was gone getting into a grove, but soon left the grove and

began walking slowly toward them ...

    Hartnell Bryann

Frightened, Cecilia had turned and saw that the figure was closer and that his appearance was notreassuring, but worse was to come. Thus, a sudden gust of wind got dust in the eye and she lost

sight of the stranger for a moment. Bryan, who was relatively calm, even had worried aboutturning to see what the strange, until one leaves rustling noise caught his attention and thennoticed that the stranger had stopped behind another oak, located about six meters to the right of Cecilia, who after briefly ended the tranquility to which Bryan had become: "My God, carries agun!" she exclaimed, and then Bryan, looking out the corner of his eye, he saw the left a black

    figure watched them silently.

In the short time that he stood behind the other oak, the big man was wearing a suit that clearlyshowed what was and what had come ... His appearance was that of an executioner. He had ablack hood and ceremonial square, sewn on the sides and flat on top. The hood, which the headwas barely eye openings (covered by glasses) and mouth, down his shoulders, had no sleeves andcovered his chest with a bib that on the black fabric, had White recorded a circle crossed with aGreek cross circle whose tips protruded. Besides, the man was wearing long sleeves tied at thewrists, pants tucked into boots, a sort of how 30cm knife on the left side, a holster with the lidopen on the right side and below the jacket, were excel tips of several strings of white plastic.

The figure had the right arm extended, pointing a gun metal blue. Was coming toward themslowly, as if to say so escape was impossible. Already well near them, which so far had not beenmoved by the fear that consumed, the mysterious figure spoke in a monotone voice that wasneither acute nor severe, denoting peace and that seemed to belong to a man aged betweentwenty and thirty years. "I want the money and car keys. I want the car to go to Mexico, "saidBryan figure and gave him the keys and the little money he had, to which the money was kepthooded, threw the keys and put the pistol. Bryan then said he had no money, they would not andthat if I needed help I could help otherwise, but remember that the hooded replied somethinglike, "No. I have no time. I am a prisoner escaped from Der Lodge, Montana. I killed a prison guard.I have a stolen car and nothing to lose. I'm totally broke. Do not be a hero to me. Do not try to takethe gun. " Then, pointing the knife, pulled the hooded white rope and ordered that atase CeciliaBryan, after which, once bound Bryan, he tied a knot tightened Cecilia and Bryan to make sure hedid not flee.

Zodiac had stared Cecilia and Bryann before approaching them. It was the first and last time I usehis executioner outfit (top, image film Zodiac), whose image would be taxable in the U.S. becauseof social imagery that, despite receiving multiple stab wounds and Bryann Cecilia after being tiedwith delusions , Bryann survived to tell the tale.

Being tied, Zodiac Bryan asked if the gun had bullets, to which he responded by opening the gunand showing that there was only one bullet. "I'll have to stab them," said Star after seeing thesurprised look of those two young men who had controlled the fear of a gun that had only amiserable bullet which might have failed should be fired.

Getting behind Bryan, Zodiac knelt and began to stab the back while Cecilia looked terrified andhelpless in the face splattered by the blood of Bryan. When the murderer lifted the knife to attack

her, Cecilia reacted putting the murderer on his back but quickly sank the knife into the abdomen, then stuck it on each breast, groin and abdomen again, and remained so until complete its symbol(the circle crossed by the cross) with twenty-four stab wounds ...

Already satisfied with your butcher, Zodiac stopped, threw the money and the keys next to the

bodies of the victims, calmly walked away from the crime scene and later, when I was on the road, stopped the car of Bryan and recorded in the passenger door and its symbol symbol below thismessage: >. Then he disappeared.

Meanwhile Cecilia, covered in blood, was still alive and had regained consciousness. Both relief asked Bryan screams and then turned to bite the strings (so much blood slippery) that bound thewrists of Cecilia. Cecilia handsfree hands could untie Bryan and so both could move on all fours, but the fact was that they were so injured that they had no way of doing so and, had it not beenbecause a Chinese fisherman and his son went through there and heard them screaming, both haddied.

When Star went, Bryann and Cecilia were covered in blood and had to Bryann mouthful of bloodto untie the hands of Cecilia and allow her to untie the hands turn. Then they passed a fishermanand his son, by which they called the police and medical services. In the hospital, Bryann (above)was saved, but Cecilia had 24 stab wounds (forming the Zodiac sign ...) and overnight nor medicalintervention survived.

Seeing the scene the fisherman and his son called for help and soon came two boats of therangers, who in turn called the ambulance but it took almost an hour to arrive, this time in whichthe victims talked about what they could happened, because his condition was so critical thatsometimes lost knowledge and Cecilia, which was what was worse, asked insistently thatanesthetize or give something to her unconscious. Once the ambulance arrived, Cecilia and Bryanwere successfully transferred to the hospital, but once there Bryan only survived to tell the details, since Cecilia was so wrong with that twenty-four stab wounds that could not be saved norovernight operations .

Dean would have wanted to try some joker, but the police who arrived homeshortly after the gasps on the phone, he was informed that his beloved and unfaithful wife hadbeen murdered, thus being clear that those agonizing gasps should belong to Darlene murderer ...

The first letters of the murderer

The first letters of the mysterious murderer appeared on Friday August 1, 1969, were almostidentical and were on target to three newspapers: The San Francisco Examiner, San FranciscoChronicle, and Vallejo Times-Herald. In each of those letters was adjudged the sender attacks onfour teenagers, gave details of the attacks, including a section written in code and signed with thesign that was to characterize: the circle crossed by the cross.

On August 1, 1969 Zodiac sent three nearly identical letters to three newspapers: The SanFrancisco Examiner, San Francisco Chronicle, and Vallejo Times-Herald. Each gave details of hiscrimes and included a section in code, besides signing with the sign that was to represent: thecircle crossed by the cross. Above, an illustration of Zodiac's letters in general.

But the murderer not only wanted to report on their crimes: leadership wanted, demandedattention and the way it was not friendly: every newspaper should publish the letter he hadreceived that same Friday afternoon. Otherwise the consequences would be serious: twelvepersons, chosen at random, would die that same weekend.

Evidently there was a possibility that they were eager to prominence some phony, but the deathsthat had already been allegedly by the sender of these letters, newspapers could not risk lettinginnocent people die. Although also the publication of these letters was convenient forrepresenting newspapers and the opportunity, without liability to be frowned upon, providesensational news with great potential for transcendence. For all that the letters were published(though not entirely Order of Police) and thus began attempts to clarify the meaning of theencrypted messages that the murderer had included in their communications.

    Deciphering codes murderer

After 20 hours of Professor Donald Harden (above) and his wife got what at the same time the CIAhad failed, the FBI and Naval Intelligence: solve (almost completely) Zodiac codes ...

Also, for the first time as themurderer called himself "Zodiac", as seen in this excerpt from the letter (3 pages in full) withinwhich is included the start:

told police that my car was brown, black was about 40-45 years so tattered dress. I was in a phonebooth having fun with the Vallejo cop as he passed. When I hung up the phone, put the fuckingmachine to ring and that made him notice me and my car. Christmas past: In this episode thepolice wondered how he could hit my victims shooting in the dark. They did not say openly, buthinted saying there was bright that night and I could see silhouettes on the horizon. Idiotic, the

area is surrounded by hills and trees. What I did was stick a thin flashlight to the barrel of my gun.If you look in the center of the beam, if you head to a wall or ceiling, will see a black or dark spot inthe center of the circle of light about seven or fifteen feet away. When attached to the barrel of agun, the bullet given directly into the center of the black dot of light. I only had to mow dead ... >>No skill needed.

Among thevarious assumptions made in the investigative work of the couple, one that was valid and that itwas crucial importance, raised in part by psychological insight, Betty made regarding what shouldbe the start of message encryption: namely Betty believed that the murderer, just like so manyother serial murderers, should be as self-centered as to start the message with an "I", and also

criminal episode emerged the most representative image and remembered the Zodiac Murderer, not only for its shocking nature but because it was a clear symbol of the essence of dark andenigmatic psychopath who was hiding behind the guise employee unsettling and disturbing thatfateful September 27 1969 ...

For now he was gone getting into a grove, but soon left the grove andbegan walking slowly toward them ...

    Hartnell Bryann

Frightened, Cecilia had turned and saw that the figure was closer and that his appearance was notreassuring, but worse was to come. Thus, a sudden gust of wind got dust in the eye and she lostsight of the stranger for a moment. Bryan, who was relatively calm, even had worried aboutturning to see what the strange, until one leaves rustling noise caught his attention and thennoticed that the stranger had stopped behind another oak, located about six meters to the right of Cecilia, who after briefly ended the tranquility to which Bryan had become: "My God, carries agun!" she exclaimed, and then Bryan, looking out the corner of his eye, he saw the left a blackfigure watched them silently.

Bryan then said he had no money, they would not andthat if I needed help I could help otherwise, but remember that the hooded replied something

like, "No. I have short time. I am a prisoner escaped from Der Lodge, Montana. I killed a prisonguard. I have a stolen car and nothing to lose. I'm totally broke. Do not be a hero to me. Do not tryto take the gun. " Then, pointing the knife, pulled the hooded white rope and ordered that ataseCecilia Bryan, after which, once bound Bryan, he tied a knot tightened Cecilia and Bryan to makesure he did not flee.

"I'll have to stab them," said Star after seeing thesurprised look of those two young men who had controlled the fear of a gun that had only a

miserable bullet which might have failed should be fired.

Getting behind Bryan, Zodiac knelt and began to stab the back while Cecilia looked terrified andhelpless in the face splattered by the blood of Bryan. When the murderer lifted the knife to attackher, Cecilia reacted putting the murderer on his back but quickly sank the knife into the abdomen, then stuck it on each breast, groin and abdomen again, and remained so until complete its symbol(the circle crossed by the cross) with twenty-four stab wounds ...

Already satisfied with your butcher, Zodiac stopped, threw the money and the keys next to thebodies of the victims, calmly walked away from the crime scene and later, when I was on the road, stopped the car of Bryan and recorded in the passenger door and its symbol symbol below thismessage: >.

Once the ambulance arrived, Cecilia and Bryan

were successfully transferred to the hospital, but once there Bryan only survived to tell the details, since Cecilia was so wrong with that twenty-four stab wounds that could not be saved norovernight operations .

Paul Stine, latest confirmed victim of Zodiac

The taxi driver Paul Lee Stine aged 29 was killed by Zodiac on October 11, 1969. Its history is asfollows:

Paul Lee Stine was parked when he was called to go to Ninth Avenue. The night was bright, therewas some fog and traffic moved slowly because of congestion. Passing by a stocky Pinecrest

restaurant stopped taxi. The man came in, sat back and asked Stine take him to Washington andMaple Street in the suburb of Presidio Heights. Stine started.

In Washington Street there were several houses on either side. Already at the intersection withMaple, the man asked Stine to advance another block, and Stine finally agreed to halt betweentwo trees, near the corner of Washington and Cherry streets, in front of house number 3898Washington Street.

Zodiac had climbed into the cab of Stine (left, alive) and after him to stop the taxi between

Washington and Cherry streets, put the gun on the right cheek, made a hook with your other armand, without giving him time loose, lethal shot him head (right, Stine already dead).

Once they were arrested, the burly Stine passenger put a gun to his right cheek and made a hookin the throat with his left arm. Appalled at the seconds before shooting, tried in vain to get ridStine raising his left hand over his right shoulder. Without delay the execution, Zodiac shot himconically that punctured his skull, fragmentndoselo into four segments ...

    21/29

After that, Zodiac came out, went back to the driver's door and put his head in her lap Stine as hetook his wallet and tore a piece of shirt. After he fled, leaving the taxi at the scene of the crime.

What we did not know is that Zodiac three youths had seen from the window of the second floorof the house that was in front of the taxi, just across the street. 21:58 A youth called police and

talked about what happened, describing the murderer as a white male, 25-30 years old, stockybuild and hair cut a certain way. The big problem was that, by the nervousness embargabacommunication, the operator of the Police scored "adult black" instead of "white adult".

Zodiac did not know that when Stine killed, three youths had seen (above, in terms of youngpeople) from a house located in front of the two trees between which the taxi was. Thus, youngpeople called police, but did stress that the operator enter "adult black" instead of "white adult",so that, when shortly after police found a Zodiac, let him go without suspecting ...

With incredible speed and after the brief and nervous call, a police patrol that roamed the placeappeared in Washington and Cherry at 22:00. That patrol stopped when, in the midst of darknessand mist the damp night, they saw a large man walking slowly toward Presidio. Patrolmen Donaldand Eric Zelms Foukes called the stranger with a cry and asked if he had noticed anything odd orsuspicious, to what the big man certainly responded saying that he saw a man brandishing a gun,ran to the east on Washington. The patrol had in mind that the criminal who was seeking a "blackadult" as erroneously scored the operator when the young called. So, troopers believe him androbust white man with dark clothes and went east on Washington: never knew that this man wasZodiac, a murderer seeking ... We also know that he was called to go near the car , whoquestioned him briefly and hastily and did not notice the blood, concealed by the darkness of the

night and the dark color of his clothes, the man wore on his lap. Then, when the staff arrived (at22:55) to the crime scene, the boys were questioned and these as calmer, made it clear that themurderer was not black: it was white. Thus, after which Donald and Eric Zelms Foukes knew thatthe man was the murderer let go in San Francisco Police came a huge obsession with the so-called"big man".

Kathleen Johns: do we really saw Zodiac?

Kathleen Johns said she and her ten-month daughter had been abducted by Zodiac, fled when hewas distracted. However, inconsistencies in his testimony and other evidence have cast doubtpolice about the alleged kidnapping.

It was the night of March 22, 1970 and Kathleen Johns, eight months pregnant, was in his car withhis daughter for ten months. Kathleen was on his way to meet his mother when suddenly, onHighway 132 in San Joaquin County, stopped his car after the driver of another car tarried to tellyou to look the wheel because it was staggering and that was dangerous. He shrewdly offered toadjust your wheel bolts, but actually loosened and then left. It was all part of a plan.

It was not long before the tire (the wheel) Kathleen is loose, and then the subject, who had plottedeverything and was close again and offered to take it to a service station. She agreed, abandonedhis car and jumped into the car of the unknown, but this one, even though they had already gonethrough several service stations had not stopped anywhere. Everything seemed to suggest thatthe subject had kidnapped. The journey to this strange lasted over three hours, filled with silenceas Kathleen told

But at some point of the journey the driver stopped at an intersection and then Kathleen escaped

with her daughter, running across the field to find a man that helped taking them to the localpolice department, in Paterson. There, in the police department, she saw a poster with a sketch of Zodiac. Apparently the girl had not seen the face of Zodiac course anywhere, and when he sawhim, he was surprised because he said the police, this was the man who tried to abduct her.

Later came a controversy still remains as to whether or not he was actually Kathleen with Zodiac.Such discrepancies controversy of how are you: 1) some witnesses claim that Kathleen's car wasmoved and burned, while others claim it was never moved, 2) Kathleen told journalist Paul Averythat her abductor left the car to get out and look for her and her baby with a flashlight, butKathleen also yielded two testimonies before the Police and each stated that the subject did notget off the vehicle to look for her and her baby. In any case, after Zodiac sent a letter (see later) inwhich he stated that he was the one that had been with Kathleen March 22, but despite this andpartly because it was possible to think that Zodiac was lying , doubts persisted, especially becauseof the inconsistencies mentioned on certain points of the story.

On January 29, 1974, broke his silence Zodiac when he sent a letter praising the film The Exorcistand, among other things, said it was "the best satirical comedy" I had ever seen.

Then, on February 14 of that year, Zodiac sent another letter to the San Francisco Chronicle inwhich he explained to the editor that the initials for "Symbionese Liberation Army" (SLA) meant'kill' (to kill ...) if they were spelled Old Norse. After being examined, the authenticity of the letterwas dubious and thought it probably would not have been written by Zodiac.

On 8 May 1974 the San Francisco Chronicle received a letter that appeared in the film Badlandscomplaints saying it was a "glorification of murder" and that the newspaper was removed from itspages advertising the film. The letter was not signed by Zodiac but by "a citizen", but the lyrics, thetone and touch ironic, perhaps thinking they had been written by Zodiac, although it was quitelikely that it was not.

Finally, on July 8, 1974 the San Francisco Chronicle received a letter with complaints thatrequested the editor to put the columnist Marco Spinelli in the "hell hole you came from" because

it had a "serious psychological disorder" as "always" needed "to feel superior." The letter wassigned by a "Red Ghost" and, although it has been suspected that could be written by Zodiac, thechances are that it has not been.

Also never knew that Kane was a subject of outstanding intelligence. And then how could show that self, that coldness, that attitude plannercan make it disappear and reappear, it can suspend long as gratifying as sending threateningletters to newspapers, how then, if he had lost in 1962 ability to control self-gratification? Howcould he have built these codes so complicated, so worthy of a privileged mind? Donna Lass (25 years):

    Donna Lass

Donna disappeared (never knew for sure she was murdered) on September 26, 1970 in South LakeTahoe (California). Later (March 22, 1971) The San Francisco Chronicle received a letter fromZodiac in saying that had 13 victims, but Donna had to be the fourteenth and thirteenth asindicated on the postcard. For this and other reasons the police never believed that she could beflirting too much with the murderer and therefore not made an official inquiry.
