Leadership El Dorado’s Class 6 tied up a successful class project by distributing nearly $20,000 raised through their class project, a comedy showcase event entitled “Stand Up for Kids.” A capacity crowd of 200 sup-ported the inaugural fundraiser in March, the proceeds of which bene ted ve local children’s organizations. Representatives from Ag in the Classroom, Big Brothers Big Sisters, CASA, Hands4Hope and Preventing Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth were on hand at the
May Chamber Luncheon to receive their checks. “It is our honor to give back to the organizations that have been instrumental in aiding and furthering the development of children in El Dorado County,” said Kelly Lucier, who served as class co-president with Kim Kerr. The Stand Up for Kids comedy showcase fundraiser has been adopted as an annual fundraiser by Big Brothers Big Sisters, jointly with Ag in the Classroom.

Tourism Pays By Jody Franklin, Director of Tourism
he El Dorado County Visitors Authority along with their partners from the Coloma Lotus Chamber and several white-
water outfitters came together to provide a spectacular guided rafting adventure to bay area journalists on the South Fork of the American River. The rafting trip combined the river’s natural beauty, rich historical background, and exhilarating rapids into one great whitewater experience.
The day-long adventure began at noon
May 17, at Henningson Lotus Park in beautiful Coloma Valley, with a BBQ dinner paired with El Dorado County award winning wines immedi-ately following at Sierra Rising Bakery in Coloma. Howard Penn, president of the Coloma Lotus Chamber, welcomed the group and shared some of the area’s golden opportunities for outdoor recreation. Noah Rucker-Triplett, Parks River Recreation Supervisor spoke to the group about the unique resource we have in the South Fork of the American River.
We used this opportunity to introduce several other El Dorado County assets to journalists that were interested in experiencing more of the gold country. Gold Bug Park & Mine, Cozmic Café, Historic Main Street, Cary House Hotel, Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park were just some of the areas of interest for the group. Journalists were vetted prior to acceptance for their ability to showcase the county online and in print. Already we are seeing results in online blogs!
T
Do you love living in El Dorado County and like helping people? Do you have a few hours to spare each week to lend your expertise to visitors, residents and businesses in El Dorado County? We want you to join us at the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce. We are looking for outgoing individuals who are knowledgeable on the area, professional, friendly with some computer skills. You will meet and assist travelers from all over the world, help to manage our database, update the calendar of events, put together information for weddings and other events, relocation packets and various travel information.
How about getting involved with one of the Chamber’s councils? Most of the councils meet once a month for about an hour. The Education Council raises funds to enable the Chamber to award educational scholarships to county residents. The Ag Council’s mis-sion is to “protect, promote and expand the economic viability of agriculture in El Dorado County”. The Diplomats are an extension of our Member Services office and help with hosting our events such as lun-cheons, mixers and ribbon cuttings as well as reach-ing out to other members. Joint Chambers might be informative for you, if you have legislative or political interests.
Interested? If you’d like to find out more, please give us a call!
