CHAPTER 21 SUMMARIES OF DUTIES

During my three months of training at Exis Tech SDN BHD, I was basically assigned to do wiring and electrics related works. Although I was unfamiliar with it at first, but with the help of Puan Azura and En Suhaizan I can slowly and surely managed to do the wirings for most of the machines there. SOLDERING

Thoroughly, I was taught on how to read the electrical diagrams that was related to the wiring processes. Most of the wires need to be soldered to connect to its pins. There are different types of connectors. For examples, there are 9 pins connectors, 25 pins connectors and also 37 pins connectors.

Figure 2.1: 25 pins connectorBased on Figure 2.1, the pins had wires that had been soldered to it. The colourful wires were soldered according to the electrical diagram. Each pin has their own number so that during soldering, the wires are soldered to each designated pins.

Figure 2.2: Example of electrical diagramFrom the Figure 2.2, the electrical diagram shown is for a vision interface wires. It uses a 25 core cable to connect to the connector. Before we connect each wire, the colour coded needs to be understood first. The table below shows some of the colour coded used in electrical diagrams.

Table 2.1: Colour coded in electrical diagramFurthermore, it can be seen from Figure 2.2 that the numbers of each pin that should be soldered are at the right. Each colour should be connected carefully to avoid any problem when the machine is running. After soldering is completed, the cable is then labelled with their own designated numbers. For the wire shown in Figure 2.2, the number is W1711 as stated at the left of the electrical diagram.

LABELLING

Figure 2.3: Example of labelling parts of the machine.Figure 2.3 shows that parts of the machine were labelled to ease the technician when connecting the wires. However, the parts should be labelled according to the standard machines. Plus, the label should always face to the right to make it easier to read upon. This is only applicable if the part that needs to be labelled were in a vertical line. Unless, if it in a straight horizontal line then it should be labelled as usual.

CONNECTING EACH WIRES

There are many ways to connect the wires into it proper places. It all depends on the types of connectors that are present. When the wires are to be connected to the relay, the wires should be clamped unto a round connector and then screwed into its designated place. However, if the wires are to be connected unto the WAGO, there should not be clamped. Instead, the wires just should be stripped and then push into the WAGO itself. RelayWAGO

Figure 2.4: Example of the connections of wires.Usually, we used wires with the thickness of 0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, and 2.5mm. Each of the wire has its own role. For instance, yellow-green wire is usually connected to the ground and labelled as PE. The black one is always the one connected to 0 Volt while the coloured red is connecting the machine to a 24 Volt current.

CHAPTER 32 WORKING EXPERIENCESFor the three months at Exis Tech SDN BHD, I gained a lot of working experiences that I can further developed in my future career. Despite having so little time, I was taught and was introduced to so many new things.

PROJECTS CARRIED OUT

BULA TECHNOLOGIEWhile I was under the supervision of En Yusairi, there are two projects that I have participated in. the first one is BULA TECHNOLOGIE. The machine is originally from French, but our team was asked to work on the machine. Currently, the machines were still not completely done yet. For my part, I was working on the electrical parts of the machine. I was assisted by Puan Azura and En Suhaizan to complete the electric connection. Figure 3.1: Part of the electrical connection in BULA machine. The function of the machine is basically only to polish sapphire glass. In short, the machine works on polishing the glasses of watches. It improves the glasses and making it scratch resistances.

Figure 3.2: BULA machine

PICK AND PLACE MACHINEThis machine is a research and development type of machine. In short, the machine only properties are to do test on chips. First of all, the chip on the tray will be picked and then the chip will passed through lines of sensors. Through that process, the sensor will detect either the chip is good or bad. If the chip is good to go then it will be place on another tray next to it. However, if the chip is bad, it will directly go into the reject bins. Chips

Figure 3.3: The tray and the chips

Figure 3.4: Side view of the machineFor this project, I was assigned to complete the power supply box.

Figure 3.6: The drawing of back panel of the power supply box

Figure 3.7: The front panel of the supply box

Figure 3.8: The back of the front panel. As I was assigned to complete the power supply, the first thing that has to be done is to assemble the connectors, relays, switch buttons, counter and the lights on both of the panels. From Figure 3.7 and Figure 3.8, all the things mentioned are to be done properly according to the design required.

Figure 3.9: The electrical panel for pick and place machine.

Figure 3.9 shows the electrical panel that is yet to be completed. It consists of relays and switches that make up the whole electrical panel.

Figure 3.10: Part of the electrical diagram in the power supply

By reading the electrical diagram, the wires from each of the items in the power supply is connected properly. If the connection is wrong, the power supply will not turn on and thus we have to trouble shoot to search for the problems.

Figure 3.11: Part of the electrical connection in power supply.

After the wiring for the power supply is done, it was then turned ON for 24 hours. This is to make sure that there are no other problems with the connections. After that, the power supply is ready to be connected to the main machine.

SUPERVISORY WORKSFor the supervisory works, there is rarely one which I supervise. However, when there is any troubleshooting that had to be done, I tried to learn from watching the step-by-step process. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

There are a few problems that I had encountered during the training. Frankly, I was not used to read the electrical diagrams provided by the company. So, I had to learn from Puan Azura on how to read the electrical diagrams. Plus, the diagram is slightly different from what I have learned. Other than that, after I was done connecting the wires in the power supply, the lights for 24Vd and 24V0 does not lights up. Clearly, there have been problems with the connections. Therefore, troubleshoot had to be done. PROBLEMS SOLVING PROCESS AND APPROACH

To solve the problems, troubleshooting had to be done. First of all, we need to identify the core problem. In my case, the power supply did not entirely turn ON. The lights for 24Vd and 24V0 did not light up. Therefore, it can be said the problems is within the relay or the main power. After we identify the problem, we tried to check using multimeter whether the problems lay within the relay or not. However, after using the multimeter, it can be said that there is nothing wrong with the relays. So, we checked the connections in between the wires. As it can be that the wiring is wrong somewhere. Then, we compared the wiring connections with the electrical diagram. Later, the mistakes are to be found with the connections. It seems that I have read the diagram wrongly and therefore it leads to the problems. I connect the wires into the wrongs place, so the power supply did not turn ON properly. Then, we fix the wiring and turn ON the power supply again. The power supply is running smoothly. CHAPTER 43 CONCLUSION

To conclude, in my three months of training in Exis Tech SDN BHD I have gained a lot of experiences and knowledge that are valuable. I was hoping that I can properly use all these experiences in my future career. Furthermore, I can apply the knowledge in my studies. I have also gained more experiences on-hands with the machines and thus know the techniques on how to handles the tools correctly and properly.
