My Dear Professional colleagues,

Climate change is essential and also a universal truth. We are in the initial period of winter season. It is this constant change of seasons that leads nature to present its best. Likewise, in our profession we have an ever changing work environment. For our professionals to maintain this vital ability to be conversant with the latest developments, requires

tremendous honing of the skill sets and also development of new skill sets for developing further avenues of growth. We are aware of the varied and numerous roles that a Chartered Accountant is expected to play in the ever changing business scenario. To ensure that a CA can meaningfully participate in multi-tasks, he/she must be adequately empowered. Indeed, capacity building is an area which has very rightfully engaged the attention of our Institute.

Professional Development

The Eastern India Regional Council as part of its professional endeavour has organized a series of CPE programmes. There was a huge response and participation in each of the above programmes especially the CPE Programme on GST and also Refresher Course on Ind AS. Members also assembled strong in programme on Demonetization. I assure you that many such programmes are lined up for our esteemed members not only to comply with the mandatory CPE Hrs participation but also to offer familiarity with the diversified subjects.

41st Regional Conference

Friends, we are gearing up to hold the 41st Regional Conference on 19th & 20th December 2016 in a manner that would teach and tell. Naturally this can happen only with the massive participation of members. I request all members to register for the very important Two day (12 CPE) Conference. I require your earnest support for making the Conference a huge success. Let me assure you that the Two Conference would be a great learning experience for all participants. The details of the programme is given elsewhere in this issue of Newsletter which you may refer.

Ethics & Good Governance

The combination of strict compliance with code of ethics, integrity and objectivity has been a basic principle of accounting profession. Our integrity, backed by

an impeccable performance, must remain beyond criticism for the larger and long term interest of the profession. It is well said that ethics begin with the conscience and end with the conscience. We have to inculcate the spirit of ethical conduct and understand the immense benefits of the same. The students need to be properly groomed and trained with respect to ethical standards, which will ultimately help the profession to continue its tradition of trust. We have to make them always remember the importance of morals, scruples, discipline, integrity, devotion to duty, quest for perfection and excellence, inquisitiveness, soft skills and self-confidence. Let’s uphold ‘transparency, accountability and adequacy of information’ at all cost to ensure an enabling environment for good governance and practices in all entities and institutions at all socio economic levels.

We have observed that quite often some of our members accept assignments through a group of other professionals. I really do not appreciate why it should be so. Our members are competent enough to get and accept work directly from the clients. Surely, this practice does not bring in glory to our profession. I hope and trust that our members would rise to the occasion to make a full stop to this practice.

Few words to CA Examinees

The CA examinations are over. I wish every examinee best of luck. I also want to request the aspirants who might not qualify, to keep hope, keep faith and reappear with stronger determination. Keep in mind the immortal saying in Upanishad, “Awake, arise, stop not till the goal is reached”. The Institute, on its part, is always sensitive to the needs of our students. To help students prepare better in a more effective way, ICAI would roll out virtual classrooms across the country in a phased manner, our Hon’ble President had announced a few weeks before.

I conclude by reminding all of you that a better future is where we are trusted with decisions about the future and remain highly prized for our judgement and rigor. As such, we need to show and prove to the world that we are extending our core expertise and adding value to the decisions the organizations and government entitles make for a sustained future. Let’s prove our worth as an indispensable “complete business solution provider” of the modern day business.

Wish you a life long lasting happiness and best of your health.

Let’s touch base ….. today, tomorrow and forever !!!

CA Anirban DattaChairman, EIRC of ICAI

My Dear Student Friends,

It seems that it was just yesterday that we had welcomedthe year 2016, but suddenly we find ourselves bidding good bye to2016. Time really has wings, it flies. It’s time again for assessment of our deeds in thepast year andtaking new resolutions forthe new year. The year 2017. I had the opportunity tomeet and interact with the students of Bhubaneswar branch

during the two-day National Conclave titled” Jigyasa”. It was a conference worth attending, and I must put on records the interest with which the students were attending the session with such discipline. The students were inclined towards learning and to quench their thirst for knowledge. I wish all of them be great Chartered Accountants.December is going to be a month for the Students. We have planned multiple activities. Education tour to West Bengal State Assembly, Customs Clearance Station at Netaji Subhas Port are on the anvil. Industrial visit to cement factory in Durgapur would help the students to understand the manufacturing

process and relate to its accounting aspect also. To ensure that students enjoy their life along with thedaily chores oflife, we have planned Youth Festival & Sports Meet.We have witnessed demonetisation in the age of digitization, with an intent to eradicate corruption and bring in financial sanitation. Every citizen of the country has a great role to play in this war against black money. ICAI has always worked in the interest of the economy of the country and therefore referred as Partners in Nation Building. GST in our country is another reform which the world is eyeing at. It’stime that the students also prepare themselves for these challenges, as I sincerely believe that with every adversary, comes an opportunity. We have lined few seminars on such burning issues, which would surely help the students. I would urge the students to develop a flair for writing and contribute their articles in the student’s newsletter.I wish you all the very best in life and invite you to participate in the student’s activities as these will help you in self development.

ANNOUNCEMENTWe have the pleasure to inform that w.e.f. from 1st December, 2016 Revision Test Papers, Practice Manual and Suggested Answers will be available both from our Russell Street and Kasba office.
