Preparation For Worship: My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise. Psalm 119:123

Opening Song The Heart of Worship

When the music fades, all is stripped away, And I simply come;

Longing just to bring something that’s of worth That will bless Your heart.

I’ll bring You more than a song, for a song in itself Is not what You have required.

You search much deeper within through the way things appear; You’re looking into my heart.

Chorus: I’m coming back to the heart of worship, And it’s all about You, all about You Jesus. I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it,

When it’s all about You, all about You, Jesus.

King of endless worth, no one could express How much You deserve.

Though I’m weak and poor, all I have is yours, Every single breath.

Chorus: I’m coming back to the heart of worship, And it’s all about You, all about You Jesus. I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it,

When it’s all about You, all about You, Jesus. When it’s all about You, all about You, Jesus.

Ministry Spotlight Share

Invocation Pastor: We gather this morning in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the

Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

Pastor: We live in the season of Pentecost, the time between Jesus ascension and His return as King of kings. We were dead in our transgressions and sins, but are now alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6

People: For God so loved us that He has made a way for us that we may not perish, but have eternal life.

Pastor: Jesus tells us, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though they die, yet shall they live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” John 11

People: God is good!

Pastor: All the time! People: All the time!

Pastor: God is good! People: Therefore, since we are justified by faith we have peace with God through

our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have received access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. Romans 5

Let us come to Him then with an honest heart to worship Him in spirit and truth.

Confession and Absolution Pastor: Sin entered into the world with the doubt of God. Doubting God, and choosing to

not trust God, pain, sorrow, and death came. Sin is choosing a way other than God who is our Way, Truth, and Life. God calls us to choose life. John the Apostle put it this way in his first letter: “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We take time once more to consider our lives honestly before God. God knows and we know. Take this time to consider what you have done and left undone. Oh, Lord, we come to You…

People: You know me Lord. All I have done, and all I have not done. I acknowledge what I have done and not done. There is nothing hidden from You. If I stood before You in all Your holiness on Judgment Day, if every secret sin I have committed and every idle word I have spoken came out as evidence I would be utterly guilty before You. So, I turn to You, trusting in Your Word, confessing my sin, asking for Your forgiveness and grace. Thank You that You take away the sin of the world, and that includes mine. You have suffered me, and loved me, and called me. I know, confess, and forsake my sin, and yield myself to You, Jesus, my Lord and Savior.

Pastor: Almighty God, in His mercy, has given His Son to die for us and, for His sake, forgives us all our sins. Receive the great gift of the absolution of your sins. As you have believed and confessed, as a called servant of Jesus our Christ, and by His authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

People: Amen.

Kyrie Eleison People: Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy.

Gloria People: Glory be to God on high and on earth peace, good will to all.

Lord, we praise Your name on high, worship You and glorify. To the Lamb of God we cry and join the angel’s song. Gloria! Let the music flow. Gloria! To the earth below. Gloria! Feel our hearts aglow with the joyful angel’s song.

You have borne the sins of all. Mercy, Lord, and hear our call. Ev’ryone both great and small, come join the angel’s song. Gloria! Let the music flow. Gloria! To the earth below. Gloria! Feel our hearts aglow with the joyful angel’s song.

You, alone, the Holy One, You, alone, God’s only Son. In Your name we’ve just begun to join the angel’s song.

Gloria! Let the music flow. Gloria! To the earth below. Gloria! Feel our hearts aglow with the joyful angel’s song.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Daily Text Whoever is kind to the needy honors God. Proverbs 14:31 “Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40 Let us pray: People: Lord Jesus, I thank You for getting my head out of the clouds and down to where Your children live. You show me the way to life and salvation – the way of love for those with whom I share life and being. Strengthen me to live faithfully in this life, loving others as you have loved me. Amen.

Scripture Readings First Lesson 1 Kings 3:5-12 5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6 And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness,

Page 4: Eighth Sunday After Pentecost · 2020-07-25 · Eighth Sunday After Pentecost July 26th 2020 9:30am Share Read Talk Pray Bless Preparation For Worship: My eyes long for your salvation

and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7 And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” 10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12 behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.

Second Lesson Romans 8:26-39 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reader: Please rise for the reading of the Gospel. God has given us Good News. People: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. You have the words of eternal life. (Psalm 119:105, John 6:68)

Gospel Lesson Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52 31 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” 33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it

Page 5: Eighth Sunday After Pentecost · 2020-07-25 · Eighth Sunday After Pentecost July 26th 2020 9:30am Share Read Talk Pray Bless Preparation For Worship: My eyes long for your salvation

was all leavened.” 44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. 47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 51 “Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” 52 And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

Pastor: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise be to You, O Christ.

Nicene Creed People: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and

earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit He became incarnate from the virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Pastor: Father, our Father in heaven, You are the present active, Creator, and Redeemer of our heart, soul, mind and body. People: Thank You Lord, that in You we are made a part of Your great salvation of all that You have created. You have made us Your redeemed children. We join today with all those throughout the world who follow You, and pray that Your kingdom would come, and Your will would be done among us as it is in heaven.

Pastor: Lord, in Your mercy, People: hear our prayer.

The prayers conclude with these words…

Pastor: You are our God, and we are Your people... Thank You that You hear our prayers, and work in all things for the good of those who love You. To You be all glory, honor, and praise. People: Amen.

Preface, Proper Preface and Sanctus Pastor: The Lord be with You. People: And also with you.

Pastor: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord.

Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Pastor: It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to You, O Lord, holy Father, through Christ our Lord; who rose beyond the bounds of death and, on this day overcame death and the grave, and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise Your name and join their unending hymn:

People(sung)Holy, holy, holy Lord; Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Words Of Institution Pastor: In the night in which He was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave

thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples saying: “Take and eat, this is My body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” Again after supper, He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink saying: “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this in remembrance of Me.”

The Lord’s Prayer Pastor: Lord, remembering Your love and Your life we pray as You taught us to pray:

Page 9: Eighth Sunday After Pentecost · 2020-07-25 · Eighth Sunday After Pentecost July 26th 2020 9:30am Share Read Talk Pray Bless Preparation For Worship: My eyes long for your salvation

People: Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Distribution Of Holy Communion All who sincerely believe in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Communion – that the cup of blessing is the Communion of the

blood of Christ and the bread is the Communion of the body of Christ, and sincerely believing that in receiving Him we have the forgiveness of our sins, salvation, and strength for the Christian life, come – partake of the Lord’s Supper.
