    FORMATION

The E ljo I nstallationb us consists of a two-wire bus cable

and connected bus-adapted installation units, such as

sensors, electrical units, and system components. E ljo

Installationbus units are certified by E IB A according to

    European Installation Bus (EIB) standards.

Sensors convert information and send it out on the

bus cable in the form of data telegrams . Sensors could

include rocker switches and binary inlets for the

    connection of potential free contacts.

The electrical units receive dat a t elegrams and convert

these to connection a nd dimmer signals. Examples of

electrical units are breakers, dimmers, and a nalogue

    outlets.

System-units and components are needed to operate

the system. These are primarily current supply forgenerat ing bus volta ge, connectors for bus sections, and

interfa ces for connecting progra mme-units.

The bus two-wire cable carries both informat ion and

electricity for the bus units electronics. The bus cable is

    connected to ea ch bus-unit.

    System information

Task-specific sensors and units are selected and consist

of bus connectors and application mod ules with

    corresponding application programs.

The application progra ms are part o f E ljos product

data base and are loaded with projection andoperational start-up software ETS from the serial

interface in a P C d own via the bus and into the

participants. Eljos product dat aba se can be obtained

    free of charge on request.

The E ljo I nstallationb us is a decentra lised bus system.

E ach unit ha s its own micro-contro ls. The units can

communicate directly via the bus, without a centra l unit.

All units are eq ual bus participants (multi-master

    operation).

The CSMA/CA method is used to avo id telegram

    collisions and data destruction.

The E ljo I nstallationb us runs on low tension voltage

SE LV. The bus volta ge is D C 24V (+ 6/-4V). P art icipants

    using under 20V are disconnected

from the bus. D ata transfer takes

    place a t a speed o f 9.6 kbit/s.

TopologyThe E ljo I nstallationb us is divided into sections with a

hierarchical structure. The smallest unit is the line.

    A line conta ins a maximum of 64 bus participants (D )

and a current supply with o utlet. (SF). Through line

couplers (LC), which are connected together via a main

line, up to 15 lines can be connected. These form an

area . In larger installations, up to 15 area s be

connected via a n area couplers (AC ). The main lines

and area lines require their own power supply with

    outlet.

More tha n 14,400 bus participants can be connected

to the Eljo Installationbus if all lines and areas are put

    into use.

The bus installation units consist of:

    1. B us connectors

    2. Application modules3. Application programs

Info rmat ion which is to be processed reaches the bus

connector via the b us. This sends and receives da ta ,

ensures the supply of power to the electronics, and

stores important data, e.g. its own physical address.

The bus connector a lso stores the a pplicat ion progra m

with its ow n para meters and group a ddresses.

The application module and application progra m

define the bus participants function. The application

program and application module must be tuned to each

other. The functioning of a unit is guara nteed only oncondition that the bus connector, application module,

and application program originate from E ljo.

Units in Trend designThese units are supplied complete and consist of inset

(application module and bus connector integrated into

a unit), supporting fra me, 1-compartment Trend fra me,

and bus connection clamps (exception: room

thermostat PI flush where t he application module andflush mounted bus connector are ordered separately).

The supporting fra me is screwed onto a mounting box

or surface box and the inset a nd Trend frame a re then

    snapped onto the supporting frame.

connector is fitted into the mount ing box or surface

box and the application module and D ecora frame are

then pressed on over the bus connector.

The units have integra ted d esign with bus connector

and application mo dule in a single casing. The bus

connection is supplied w ith bus connecting clamp.

AddressingFor E IB addressing, a distinction is made betw een the

physical a ddress and the group add ress. The physicaladdressis the eq uivalent of the bus participants nameand is given as Area . Line. Pa rticipant (e.g. 5.4.23).

The group addressestablishes the identity o f the buspart icipant s. With the exception o f servicing and

progra mming measures, a part icipant is alwa ys called

up via it s group a ddress/es. The group address isdivided into up to 15 main groups, each with a maxi-

mum of 2048 sub-groups. This is denot ed b y the

    structure Ma in group/Sub-group (e.g. 1/127).

Wiring lengthWhen installing bus wiring, the fo llowing values must be

    observed:

Max wiring length between voltage supply and bus

Max wiring length between tw o bus part icipant s: 700m

Tota l length of wiring in one line: 1000m

    * The D IN VD E 0829 sta nda rd specifies 4 kV a s the

value for test-voltage for a further test between wiring

and external surface areas a ccording to D IN VD E 0472

part 508. It can be expected that this value will be

changed to 2.5 kV within the framewo rk for E uropean

    harmonisation.

If the bus wirings second, yellow -white (reserve)

wire pa ir is used, the f ollowing points should be

    noted:

Only SEL V low voltage is permitted.

Max. permitted permanent current 2.5A(short-circuit and overload protection required).

Speech transference is permitted, but not as
