BACKZAMBIA AIRWAYS
THE long-awaited national airline has finally been incorporated and
will operate as Zambia Airways 2014 Limited, which will be a
successor of the defunct Zambia Airways.
Zambia Airways was liquidated in 1994 and since then, the Southern
African country has had no national airline.
Ministry of Transport and Communications Permanent Secretary
Mbololwa Muyaba confirmed the establishment and incorporation of
the new airline in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.
“We have established the company dubbed Zambia Airways 2014
Limited and it has been registered with PACRA (Patents and
Companies Registration Agency),” Ms Muyaba said.
She could, however, not give further details and indicated that the
ministry was still awaiting approval from Cabinet.
According to the Times of Zambia search at PARCA, the company
which has three directors, was incorporated on July 23, 2015 and was
registered with PACRA by the Ministry of Finance.
PACRA records confirmed that the company was incorporated in July
2015, with nominal capital of K5,000 and the total number of shares is
5,000.
The names of directors appearing in the firm’s record of incorporation
are Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba, Works and Supply,
Permanent Secretary Charles Sipanje and Finance Permanent
Secretary Pamela Kabamba.

Formation of the national flag carrier is expected to boost the Zambian
tourism sector because tourists will find it easier to fly direct to
Zambia.
According to Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili,
Government is targeting the end of next year for the new airline to
become operational.
Mr Kambwili said this in an interview recently.
Government had put up modalities for establishment of the national
airline and was currently in talks with suppliers of the planes.
“We are talking to suppliers of the airplanes on the purchase of
aeroplanes as reflected in the 2016 budget so that by the end of next
year, the company is fully operational,” Mr Kambwili said.
In the 2016 national Budget, Government has allocated K498.4 million
for the expansion of the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in
Lusaka and the establishment of a national airline.
Recently, National Airline Project lead consultant Weston Mapani said
Zambia’s national airline is set to be registered once
government appointed a board of directors.
Mr Mapani said all was set for the re-establishment of the Zambia
national airline except for the registration of the company and the
availability of operational funds amounting to US$300 million

News Brief: Travel Agents See Opportunities in
MoreNDC, Seek to Know
Geneva – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced
the results of a joint study with select members of the World Travel
). Travel agents look forward to WTAAAAgents Associations Alliance (
the opportunities New Distribution Capability (NDC) will bring and seek
more information about the initiative.
NDC is a travel industry-supported program launched by IATA. Its goal
is the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data
transmission standard that is intended to enhance communications
between airlines and travel agents.
IATA partnered with associations representing travel agencies based in
Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the
USA that are members of WTAAA. The study was conducted
22 . It included Impact2 T and Atmosphere Research Group by
qualitative interviews with travel agents around the world and surveys
from approximately 1,000 agents.
The study shows that:
On average 76% of travel agencies book airline ancillary products and
services with most using airline websites to do so
Agents are concerned about the loss of productivity associated with
moving back and forth between their standard screen displays and
airline websites in order to book ancillary options
Agents recognize that airline websites offer the most complete
selection of airline product and service options and they believe they
are at a competitive disadvantage owing to this disparity
A majority of agents believe NDC can help them be more competitive
and customer-focused and will make selling airline ancillary products
more efficient
Travel agents expect to be compensated for selling ancillary products
and services

(2) “The study bears out that the travel agent channel as currently
situated is not able to efficiently meet all the needs of air travelers.
NDC will address this gap by enabling efficient access to content that
currently is available only on airline websites,” said Aleks Popovich,
IATA Senior VP Financial and Distribution Services.
“The NDC discussion has been around the global travel industry for
many years. This study has brought to light some important and
interesting insights from the travel agency perspective and is
welcomed by those agency associations that have been involved,”
said Jayson Westbury, CEO of the Australian Federation of Travel
agents and spokesperson for the participating agency associations.
Other findings in the study:
The development of branded fares, sometimes referred to as fare
families, has created some confusion in the travel agency community.
Around one in four travel agencies are uncertain whether they book
fare families or branded fares
A plurality of agents (43%) take a deliberately slow pace in adopting
new technology
Agencies will likely rely on GDSs most for support in adopting NDC

EU releases action plan for safer aviation
accident Germanwingsfollowing
BRUSSELS, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) on Tuesday
released an action plan to strengthen aviation safety following the
crash of Germanwings Flight 9525 on March 24 this year.
The European Commission, or the EU's executive body, unveiled an
Action Plan implementing the recommendations made in July by the
Task-Force led by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on the
Germanwings flight crash.
This was another step towards safer aviation, the Commission said in
a statement.
Convened at the request of EU Commissioner for Transport Violeta
Bulc, the Task-Force had primarily called for better checks on crew
members.
Then, EASA developed the Action Plan, which outlined how the agency
intends to implement these recommendations, in close cooperation
with the European Commission.
"By providing a clear roadmap for EU action, it will help preventing
future accidents or incidents," the statement quoted Commissioner
Violeta Bulc as saying.
On March 24, 2015, the Germanwings Flight 9525, an Airbus A320-200
jet, crashed in the French Alps, killing all 144 passengers and six crew
members. Black boxes information showed that co-pilot Andreas
Lubitz deliberately crashed the plane after locking the pilot out of the
cockpit.

EASA Academy Promotes Harmonized
Certification
The European Aviation Safety Agency has named the first members
of its EASA Virtual Academy, which aims to sustain competency
among national aviation regulatory staffs across Europe and
promote harmonized regulatory and certification practices among
European nations. The members are CAA International (an aviation
consultancy wholly owned by the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority), the
Joint Aviation Authorities Training Organisation (which is
associated with the European Civil Aviation Conference, which in
turn includes 44 European nations), the Ecole Nationale de
l’Aviation Civile, or ENAC (France’s only aviation-oriented
university) and Servicios y Estudios para la Navigacion Aerea y la
Seguridad Aeronautica, or SENASA (a training, consultancy and
technical assistance company headquartered in Madrid). “The
effectiveness of the EASA system is based on thorough
cooperation between EASA and the member states,” said EASA
Executive Director Patrick Ky. (EASA's members include the 28
nations of the European Union and the four nations of the European
Free Trade Assn.) “Training of staff is a key element of this
cooperation.” He added that “the EASA Virtual Academy will expand
beyond Europe in the future to promote the EASA system as the
leading aviation safety global system.” Consistency among
international aviation authorities is the focus of a session at next
week’s Rotorcraft Certification Summit in Irving, Texas. The
session, “Certification Barriers and Reforms: The International
Arena,” will feature presentations by the U.S. Government
Accountability Office’s assistant director of Civil Aviation Issues,
Vashun Cole, and Jonathan Archer, director of Engineering and
Airworthiness for the General Aviation Manufacturers Assn. Limited
space is still available for the event; you can find more about it

British Airways to replace IT workers with Indian
visasflown in on temporary recruits
British Airways is set to replace IT workers in the UK with Indian recruits
flown into the country on temporary visas, writes Emily Davies.
At least 55 jobs will be outsourced to Tata Consultancy Services, with a
possible 128 more to follow, under plans from International Airlines Group
(down 11.5p at 592p), the parent company for British Airways.
The cost-cutting move is expected to involve employees being sent over
from the Indian-owned company on a rotational basis from spring next year.
British Airways, which employs 35,000 people in the UK, is on course to
outsource up to 80pc of roles in its IT department, meaning a total of 720
British jobs could be lost.
A source told The Sun: ‘Some of the BA jobs will transfer to Tata from spring.
One very likely option is to use their own staff from India to fill the posts.
‘It will be cheaper, but it is an insult to BA staff who have been there for
years. It’s a very cynical move by IAG to save a few quid.’
