The people in that square now know one very powerful thing: They did this allby themselves. That is so important. One of the most powerful chants I heard inthe square on Friday night was: The people made the regime step down. This sense of self-empowerment and authenticity we did this for ourselves, byourselves is what makes Egypts democracy movement such a potential game-changer for the whole region.
American journalist, columnist and author Thomas L. Friedman on 12/02/2011

This is the first revolution I've covered where the people cleaned up afterthemselves. Perhaps the mark of a people who spawned one of the worlds oldestand greatest civilizations.

Egyptians have surprised themselves with the power and orderliness of theirrevolution. During 18 days of protest they endured police attacks with liverounds and rubber bullets, a camel charge by pro-Mubarak thugs, and timeswhen it seemed as though their struggle might take months. But the violence that cost more than 300 people their lives all came from thestate's brutal but failed attempt to break the uprising.
