During the EGI session you will be guided through the stack download process using
Maintenance Optimizer, which needs to be configured first (please refer to the Preparations
for the Upgrade - Configuring Maintenance Optimizer section of the Upgrade Guide). If you
cant use Maintenance Optimizer (e.g. because the current SP level is lower than 22), you can perform the upgrade using the generic stack XML file.

Upgrade strategy
If you have more than one SAP Solution Manger system, e.g. a development, a quality
assurance system and a production system, you should consider the entire system group:
Update the systems in the same
sequence in which you transport your
modifications.
The upgrade will influence the
development activities, therefore dual
maintenance might be temporarily
necessary to ensure that your
production system is supported with
emergency corrections.

It is crucial that you perform specific preparation activities for all productive used scenarios
before you start the upgrade procedure and that you perform scenario specific follow-up
activities after the upgrade has finished successfully.
Since SAP Solution Manager release 7.1 contains new functions and settings for
several scenarios like Change Request Management and Application Incident
Management (former Service Desk), post upgrade activities have to be performed in
case these scenarios already run productive with the release 7.01. There are guides

ChaRM) are not available during the downtime phase.
Make sure that there is sufficient disc space available. For further details please refer to:

RECOMMENDED
If your SAP Solution Manager 7.0 is on SPS22 and higher, use
Maintenance Optimizer to create the stack delta XML file and to
download the upgrade packages as shown on the following slides.
Copy the stack delta XML file and all downloaded files to the
download directory of your upgrade.
Please refer to SAP Note 1577909 for details.
ALTERNATIVE
Please use this option only if your SAP Solution Manager 7.0 is on
SPS01 SPS21. Due to some technical restrictions Maintenance Optimizer cant be used in this case. Download the DVD for SAP Solution Manager 7.1 Support Package Stack as shown on the
following slides (option 2). The DATA directory on this DVD contains a
generic stack delta XML file, the current ABAP stack files and the
current Java files.

Please make sure that your download directory contains the following items:
SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SR1 DVDs (you need to extract them first, please refer to
SAP Note 886535 for more information about multispanning archives)
Support Package Stack files
Stack Delta XML file
Kernel archives, transport tools archives
SPAM and SAINT update archives
Upgrade tool (SUM) archive
Note: Do not extract any SAR archives, just place them into the download directory. They
will be found, extracted and installed automatically by the upgrade tool.
Extract the upgrade tool (SUM) with the following command:
SAPCAR -xvf /.SAR -R /usr/sap/
This command creates the directory SUM under the /usr/sap/ directory. You can
also specify a directory other than /usr/sap/. However, we recommend to use
this directory.
