For my graduation thesis, I decided to work on twin hulls as there is an un-denying growth of use for catamarans in various areas from
passenger ships to fishing vessels. In Istanbul, mostly IDO uses twin hull boats to carry passengers in and out of city. So I examined
seakeeping and resistance properties of a similar twin hull boat model. To develop these two aspects of the model, I designed a
parametric appendage which is formed as an ellipse and varied 500 examples to use. Then I calculated resistance of each example and
prepared a set of data. I wrote a computer code in MATLAB to created a neural network to understand the relation between the
parameters and resistance of the model. By using this network I optimized the appendage and decreased the resistance whereas
increased seakeeping.D|1

In my senior year in university, I leaded a group of senior undergraduate naval architects for a fishing vessel project. We created a design
which is inspired by traditional Turkish Black Sea fishing vessels but reaching to the levels of an internatioanal ocean-fishing vessel. We
tried to combine the new technologies for stocking the fish as fresh as possible whereas the ship is supposed to reach its destiny as fast
as possible. Personally, besides leading whole project, I conducted initial design phase which included determining the dimensions of
the ship and designing the hull. Also I prepared general arrangement of the ship and examined the hydrodynamic aspects in order to
optimize it.D|2

When I was working with Ertuğ Engineering as a freelance designer, I designed a 9 m sailing boat project. First I conducted the concept
design phase of the project by drawing initial sketches. Then I prepared technical drawings and 3D model of the boat exterior. After
modelling the hull, I did the engineering calculations of the boat from hydrostaticts to the structural aspects. I designed the sailing
arrangement and did the necessary calculations for the needed performance as this boat was requested to be a cruiser-racer sailing
yacht. After completing these phases I designed a keel and a rudder to increase both the performance and stability of the boat for the
comfort of the owner.D|3

Again with Ertuğ Engineering, after designing the sailing yacht, we decided to work on a motorboat project. This time I started with the
concept design phase by drawing the initial sketches. Then I prepared the 3D model of the boat hull and exterior. After this stage, I did
all the necesary calculations and I specifically focused on the performance of the boat as this was requested to be a powerboat. As for
the design, we tried few variations for the splinter glass and this design is the one decided by the owner.

While working with Kerim Acar Yacht Design, there was a 24 m motoryacht project going on. So I wanted to participate in the project
and Mr. Acar asked me to design a spoiler for the yacht. First I worked on 3D hand sketches to decide on the concept. After few tries we
decided on a sportive style one and I started to prepare the 3D model also changing the sun deck bulwark according to it. Later I
finished the initial model and I worked on the details for good rendering.

While I’m working in Artı Engineering, I am the responsible engineer of Hull Department and work on all the initial design phases of the
projects. One of them is a 39 m double-ended passenger boat design. I worked on the sketches under the supervision of the director of
the department, then I started preparing the 3D model of the design. I worked on every details which cannot be examined through 2D
drawings and when necessary I created solutions for problems both concerning aesthetics and engineering.

Another project of Artı Engineering is a similar type of a passenger boat which is 40 m. The strategy for the design is the same again.
First I worked on the 2D drawings of the boat as the general arrangement plan, then I prepared the 3D model of the boat. The aim of
this design is to create a passenger boat which is good in middle-ranged voyages and also looks good. Another specialty of this design is
that there is a cover in the bow area for a comfortable docking for both passengers and the crew.

When I was working with Ertuğ Engineering as a freelance designer, I also conducted engineering projects. One of them is the
construction project of a one-design sailing boat «Pirat». First I examined the drawings of the boat which was designed by Carl Martens
in 1938. The boat’s properties were very essential for the project because the built boat needed to be verified by an authorized society.
So I modelled the boat in 3D very carefully. Then I modelled the structure as solid and see the interactions. After everything was
modelled in 3D, I prepared the drawings for cutting of each part and the mounting.

When I was a design engineer in Düzgit Shipyard, we were working on two ships. One of them was a 8300 DWT oil/chemical tanker. For
this ship there were many modifications on the design of the main deck to be made. So I modelled the current main deck on that time
with details and then designed the walkway on deck. I made the arrangement to place the ladders on the main deck in 3D and I
modelled the pipes on the main deck to replace them without any errors.

When I was a design engineer in Düzgit Shipyard, we were working on two ships. The second ship was a 15000 DWT oil/chemical tanker.
For this ship there were some details to be sorted out. One of them was the aftline pipes of the ship which will be placed around the
superstructure. So I modelled the superstructure of the ship in 3D and then started modelling the pipes. In order to create production
drawings of these pipes I modelled elbows and everything according to the manufacturers’ dimensions on their specifications. When I
finished modelling I prepared the necessary production drawings and also supervised the production and mounting of the pipes to the
ship. Other detail work I did for this ship was to replace the roller on the forecastle deck and design its supports. So I modelled the bow
and the forecastle deck to place the roller for real. Then I designed and modelled the support for the rollers and prepared the
production drawings.

When I started to work for Artı Engineering in June, 2012, there was a 60 m superyacht project about to start. I immediately
participated on this project. My role is to model the structure of the yacht in 3D with every details and then prepare cutting files,
workshop drawings and necessary lists for the shipyard by using NUPAS-CADMATIC Hull software.

My first finite element analysis using ANSYS was the analysis of a logitudinal bulkhead of a fishing vessel. Because of the arrangement of
the cargo area, there was a very long longitudinal bulkhead, so a strength analysis had to be made. I modelled the bulkhead and all the
structure on it first in Rhino 3D. Then I wrote a script for ANSYS and conducted the analysis. The result showed that the designed
structure was sufficient to maintain necessary strenght.
