easons Change
Cooler days, shorter nights, fall is definitely here.
ain, welcome by parched ground, reminds us winter is near.
Windbreakers changed to raincoats, soon warmer coats will be worn. ne doesn’t have to rise so early to welcome each day’s dawn.
t’s great to watch the changes, in humans and in seasons,
each reaching stages in their lives maturing for natural reasons.
Change in life is inevitable and we can accept it with grace. t’s okay to be just the way we are
and move at a slower pace.
ife is ours for enjoyment, to make the most of each day. We’re given gifts and talents to share in our unique way.
miles or good conversation, helping someone with their chores, volunteering time for a worthy cause,
are good things to do indoors.
ut do take time out now and then to breathe the crisp fall air,
link arms to keep each other warm and show them that you care.
Enjoy life changes.

At the KinVillage Quiz No. 7, on September 15th, the team of the Roses came out on top with a superb score of 96 points out of a possible 110. Answering questions from a wide base of Time and Space, and Science to Song Opening Lines and Looney Tunes, all of the teams scored well and had a good time. Everyone looks forward to the next Quiz Night in April 2109. To give you an idea of the breadth of questions here are a couple:
1. What mountain range separates Europe from Asia ?
2. Who was the woodcarver who created Pinocchio ?
Answers on a postcard to…. Just kidding, here are the answers
1. Ural Mountains and 2. Gepetto
Suede Dogs Malcolm and Linda
Sue, John, Karla, Dave, and Gerald show off the great cake Adrian made for the 40th anniversary of KinVillage.
Sincere thanks to Suede Dogs, not only for their great performance but also for their generous donation of three pieces of jewellery for door prizes. It was fun to see some of the Red Hatters and Purple Pansies at the luncheon.
Three people received money from the Share the Wealth Draw. Dianne Boyle $30, Mabel Dermody $27.50 and Gerald Arksey accepted for Dave MacMillan $25.00.
KinVillage Witches at the Mall
For 18 years, volunteer Doreen Weatherby has made it possible for children and adults alike to enjoy Witches at the Mall. Sincere thanks to everyone who volunteered this year. Thank you also to Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall for their contribution to KinVillage.

New écor for the Community Centre Café – ne step (or seat!) at a time.
As you know from last month’s newsletter, we are raising funds to update the seating area in the Café. We hope to make the following improvements early in the new year and will do so as funds allow:
Purchase two larger “communal” tables that will welcome individuals, pairs and small groups to share a table. This type of open seating is common in Europe and will be like the large table in the Tsawwassen Starbucks. Of course these larger tables are likely to also be used by larger groups at times.
Remove the metal basket chairs and replace them with more comfortable ones. In addition, we’ll also be adding more chairs and seating capacity.
Replace the existing round table tops.
To accommodate the new seating plan, move (e.g. the travel desk and bookcase) or remove some furniture (e.g. the two leather couches).
Make the space more inviting by brightening it up – for example, by painting the chairs a lighter colour and having them reupholstered, as well as painting the walls and pillars.
Many thanks to those who have already made donations in honour of John Lusted on the occasion of his upcoming retirement. For those who would still like to do so, a reminder that donations “In Honour of John” can be made to KinVillage Association online via Canada Helps, or via cheque or cash at the Community Centre Reception. Tax receipts will be issued for any donation of $20 or more. We will present John with the names of everyone who chose to honour him in this special way and to help update the Café as he requested.
Congratulations ettina!
Subsequent to John Lusted’s upcoming retirement at the end of the year, Bettina Salini is being promoted into the role of KinVillage’s Director of Wellness.
Since joining KinVillage in 2000, Bettina has been dedicated to our Mission, proactive in identifying and making improvements, efficient and creative in using resources, and passionate about supporting wellness for the diverse and ever changing needs of those we serve. She has been our Manager of Recreation since 2014 and in this role, in addition to managing West Court’s recreation, has assumed responsibilities of the Director of Recreation when John’s away. This includes capably overseeing day to day operations of the Community Centre and supporting volunteers.
In her new full-time role, Bettina will continue to manage recreational programs in West Court and will take on the added responsibility for planning, coordination and oversight of wellness programming across KinVillage, including the Community Centre, as well as overseeing volunteer engagement. Management of the day to day operations of the Community Centre and responsibility for recruiting, on-boarding and recognizing volunteers will be the responsibility of a newly created position - Manager, Community Centre and Volunteer Engagement. The recruitment process for this position is underway with hopes it will be filled before John’s departure.

On September 16th, our local Delta Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue held their annual fundraiser called “Tour de Duck”. This was a fun race of 4500 rubber ducks on the Fraser River at Deas Island Park. One of the corporate sponsors of the event donated 100 tickets for KinVillage to utilize. John Lusted suggested that the tickets be assigned to a random draw of some of the terrific KinVillage volunteers and staff. We are pleased to announce that KinVillage volunteers had four of the luckiest ducks! Pictured here is Marlene MacFarlane who won White Spot gift cards for dinner once a month for a whole year! The gift was presented to her by David Wong, President of Delta Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue.

Bring your Care Card and Photo ID The number one myth - u vaccine can give you the u.
Not true! The u vaccine cannot cause u illness. The vaccines used in the Universal In uenza Immunization Program do not contain any live virus. However, it can cause mild side effects that may be mistaken for u. These side effects are not the in uenza virus. If experienced at all, they are mild and last only one to two days. Prevention is key. Getting a u shot along with good health habits will give you the best chance of not getting the u.
