Welcome!Today, EFITM is more successful and exciting than ever. As always, the EFI brand is defined by our commitment to our customers and to each other. That’s why each of us shares the critical responsibility of creating and protecting the EFI brand. We’ve developed these abridged brand guidelines to help us all achieve these goals together. This guide shows you the tools and system that communicators use around the world to convey our unique EFI brand strategy.

This is a living document. Please contact Lesley Waters or Holly O’Rourke with any questions.

Writing style points

The new brand strategy at EFI promotes a writing style that is quick, snappy and dynamic, stemming from our brand platform of being experts in our field who are easy to talk with. In keeping with this direction, we have included a snapshot of the most prevalent writing elements that appear within EFI documents.

A full set of writing guidelines is available on the EFI intranet.

Brand specific

USING THE EFI BRAND IN TEXT

When the brand is referred to in titles or headlines, such as with a Web page menu or brochure cover, set the name in title case.

EFI When the brand is referred to inside body copy, the name must be set with EFI capitalized.

EFI set in text should always

look like this.

Writing characteristics/style

HEADLINE AND SUBHEADS

For headlines and subheads, title case is no longer part of the EFI writing style. All copy excluding proper nouns should be set in sentence case. In addition headlines, subheads and bullets should

• be short, smart and compelling

• follow appropriate punctuation (when necessary, punctuation can be addressed for headlines that require a dramatic effect)

• omit product names as all communication should include a product specific Fuel Cell

The easiest way to access, print and pay Imagine. Create. Print. Flexibility is a label we are comfortable wearing.

Writing constraints with regards to translationU.S. documents that require translations should allow space for additional translated copy (about 1/3 more than what is written in English). Please reference template guidelines on the EFI intranet for appropriate character counts to fulfill this request.

BulletsBullets are meant to be short statements and therefore should not require a peri-od. Bullets should reflect talking points and not complete thoughts. If bullets must be full sentences, all bullets in that section should follow the same structure for consistency.

Bullets should whenever possible

• be partial sentences without end punctuation

• be consistent throughout if they must be punctuated sentences

Bullets should never

• appear as a single item

ApproachWhen selecting an image, EFI now chooses subjects based on the objective of the piece they are placed in and the words written in the headlines. Our approach avoids metaphors or ambiguity whenever possible. How the image will be used in diff erent applications (brochure, HTML banner, landscape or portrait) is always considered from the outset.

Creative directionBeneath the objective, EFI has a distinct image style that is specifi c to the brand promise and personality. Photographs should all be iconic and memorable. Products should be shown in action, while scenes should portray stunning, colorful, successful results of our products in real-world settings. Most important, EFI photography is honest—not posed or utilizing special eff ects. It portrays diverse people naturally at ease in front of the camera.

Illustrations are carefully curated by the marketing communications team and exist as part of a library.

FocusBackgrounds, location and objects are of secondary importance to the focal point or subject. Environments are always uncluttered and vibrant.

The approach, creative direction and focus of all EFI images is now standardized to refl ect our brand strategy. There is a singular approach to all photography and illustration.

Born from our brand promise of fueling success and inspired by our world leadership in color, the EFI Fuel Cells are organic graphic expressions that underscore the power of EFI.

The EFI Fuel Cells exist as an illustrative language for EFI and as uniform organizing elements for sub-brands in the form of uneditable “lockups.”This preset library of artwork will fi t into any media. Their fl exibility (shown rudimentarily below) forms the brand identity system for EFI.

All products in the EFI organization will have a sub-brand lockup created for use in promotional brand communication. There is a library of lockups to choose from that contain at least three configurations of sub-brand Fuel Cell artwork. Like the EFI logo, they should not be altered. Upon request new lockups can be created to fulfill your promotional needs.

Dealing with optical brighteners in paper stock—to cut or not to cut UV light in color profi ling?

5 The Integrated C75 Server requires an additional PC for SIQA but does not require extra network hardware and cables, and is supported through the single IP connection.

6 Calibration integrates with the ILS on the J75 Press.

7 Included with the Graphic Arts Package, Premium Edition option.

Enabled printer = Licensed printer

In PrintMe Mobile, enabling a printer consumes one license. This is illustrated in the graphic below.

Enabling printers from PrintMe Mobile dashboard

Secure Release print queue does not consume a license

• Maximize ink yield for lower total cost of ownership with digital imaging technology and ink delivery system.

• Minimize downtime, waste and loss potential with sophisticated warning and detection systems.

• Accommodate more versioning and localization on short, medium and long runs with digital UV technology.

• Run multiple jobs at once with multi-queue functionality, eliminating the need to rip larger layout fi les.

• Enable continuous shifts with its rugged, industrial design that makes it suitable for 24/7 operation.

• Integration ready with native JDF connectivity to EFI Web-to-Print and MIS/ERP solutions.

What is “UV”?

The human eye is capable of seeing visible wave-lengths of light from 400 nanometers (nm) (violet) to 780 nM (red). Wavelengths shorter than 400 nm are in the ultraviolet, or UV spectrum. Wavelengths longer than 780 nm fall into the infrared (IR) portion of the spectrum. The eye cannot see UV or IR wavelengths - but UV light can infl uence the appearance of printed material. This is because UV light causes certain chem-ical compounds that may be used in printing substrates to fl uoresce, or “glow”. These chemicals are called Opti-cal Brightening Agents (OBAs) and if they are present in a paper it is best to make color measurements that are used to make printer profi les with a device that fi lters out the brightening e ect. This is done with a UV fi lter in the instrument. The EFI ES-1000 UV device has such fi ltration.

What else is there?

There are also spectrophotometers available without a UV Filter, notably the ES-1000. The “non-UVCut” ES-1000 includes UV wavelengths in the measurements it makes. This type of device may also be referred to as “non-UV”, unfi ltered, or UV-included since the UV infl u-ence is included in the measurements. Why would such a device be desirable? The answer goes back to the

amount of OBAs in the paper being profi led. For papers without OBAs it is not desirable to profi le with a UV-cut instrument. In most cases for digital printing UV-cut measurements are preferred unless very high quality paper is being used or if the print will be approved in light with a UV component.

The New EFI ES-2000 Spectrophotometer

The new EFI ES-2000 device provides UV or non-UV measurements to Color Profi ler Suite 4.0 so that any type of substrate can be profi led for any viewing condi-tion. Thus the customer will be able to use one device for all their needs. For calibration and re-calibration, the ES-2000 correlates with the current ES-1000 UV and non-UV devices so that existing calibrations can still be maintained.

Summary

The table below summarizes the optimum use of the current ES-1000 UV and ES-1000 non-UV devices and shows how the single ES-2000 device can be used in both environments for accurate color profi ling.
